My Dad and Brett used to have sleepovers as kids. Their dads (my grandad) did business and owned horses together. My Mum also was in art class with Taika Waiti (who wrote this episode). Good old small town Wellington.

You can look all of this up, you’ll find that Taika went to Onlsow College, and there are many pictures of Mr Mckenzie with his horses on Google, a couple include my Grandfather as well. To be honest, I don’t really care whether you believe me or not. I’ve seen Onlsow college photos with Mum and Taika right next to each other, and have met the Mckenzies first hand.

2009 Aziz Ansari was the prime era I started discovering different standup for myself when I was 13, he was my favorite comedian for awhile, I just wish I discovered this when it cameout in 08 when I was 12, I still into this comedy, independent movies, and documentarys and standup and underground alternative music and comedy, I wish I would discovered this show sooner and just can't believe I always skipped over the title of the show or picture for it anytime I had hbo on and off thru the years

We were doing some farm volunteering outside Hamilton and the family we stayed with were gob smacked by the concept that American humor was apparently the same as Wellington humor. They told us the show had been turned down in NZ for being too "Wellington" for anyone else in NZ to relate to.

Show was too far ahead of its time, it would have a huge following today. When this was airing on TV though most people here in the states dismissed it as being too weird. I think it just didn't have the same mainstream appeal or big enough celebrities to have the mass appeal to keep it going.
The actors themselves didn't want another season. See the Colbert interview. They joke about fame being too much, but I can totally understand someone making enough money to live comfortably and just stopping there because they don't wan to be a part of the stupid upper class rich folks game.
The first season was material from their live show they had kicked around for years the second was a chore. Imagine writing every facet of the show plus the music and acting in the show AND keeping it at the same high level of quality. I'm glad they didn't keep making it in that case. They did more in 2 seasons than some can do in ten. I will be at the movie if it ever comes out.
Seeing the inside of the bus, starting around 1:02, was quite evocative. I don't know how many cities in America that I've been to, and while there, had occasion to take the bus. What I _do_ know is that it doesn't matter, because all the buses in America are uniformly shit.
