Dandy Crew! We are flying to 5000 subscribers and I couldn’t be more excited to share that milestone with you. Thank you for the support and comments. We are building something amazing here together. Stay great - DandyDrew
Ah shoot I forgot to like and comment! Going through past videos that I watched just to make sure 😜 Best videos around, download all videos for my lunch breaks!
I liked DyLighteds original 9/6/2 and 10/8/4 thought. Similar Wood and Brick, more wheat, more ore, less sheep. Road would be slightly harder as you would have to plow orange. But after watching a bit more play I was thinking where would you build to and how would it help you further your game. Really enjoy your content, Keep up the amazing work
@dandydrew, I was excited to sit down and watch the new video. I was more excited to see you and @dylighted together. But, what I was most excited about was it was me who won!
That’s so awesome Michael. Made my day to see that comment. You played it well and helped in making this a great game. Best of luck to you in future games and hope to play again soon!
Great video Dandy! I'm interested in your thoughts on this placement: 8-10-4 point down, 6-9-2 point down. Starts with road to plow to sheep port, best brick, best ore, great ports, and intact road network along coast. Seems flexible, granting both the best road-building and OWS. Thoughts?
It’s playable for sure. I think that setup will get a lot more heat and have a lot more competition compared the 843 and 6511. I also see a lot of strategic value with taking the setup we have as we deny the board of A LOT of key spots while having a clear advantage on road with the best wood and brick, all 5 resources, the best road network, and a great 3:1 port. The 8 4 10 becomes a lot more dangerous if you can get the 83 plow to sheep port imo, but it’s a risk.
@@dandydrew True, I can see how it's much riskier - and you become a target for the robber after acquiring the sheep port. There's something to be said about the under-the-radar nature of the setup chosen in-game. Thanks for the response!
I agree with your assessment. And since you have a starting wood brick you are almost guaranteed the sheep port. But yes you may get robbed like crazy... The only part that is significant is that you lock down more of the board for other players.
@@LukasTheBlue Actually, people can give the road to the other person first round to plow and balance the game, so even if you start with a wood brick in hand it's not guaranteed.
What are the downsides to starting something like the 8/10/4 and either 6/9/2 (free road to cut orange to sheep port) or 9/2/10 for ore port and build to either sheep/brick?
if you and Dylighted settled on a tile what tile would it be? wood, brick, sheep, wheat or ore? or you going desert adventure. i go for sheep to not be alone.
Maybe im crazy but (haven't watched the whole video yet) even after his explanation id still pick 8,4,10 and 6,9,2 you have every resource with great expansion spots on sheep port and 3 wheat. Strong ore wheat sheep play with sheep porting and close wood brick pairing. We shall see how it goes!
The sheep port is not guaranteed. Regardless of the possibility of someone else helping orange plowing, you didn't even see the option for orange to take the 12 5 6 and get the road first round.
@@omercohen2480 no I saw the option. But it is worth the risk, not many players will place on the water with the initial cities. And this game proves it. It was not plowed here. People almost never give up resources for free in the first turn. Getting plowed is rare here.
Dandydrew with is first coaching loss on youtube. Dylan's is so quick to talk, but loses sit of the timer because he is constantly thinking 3 turns ahead. I think going to the brick port over the 3:1 would have helped in production more, but would also turn into a bigger target. I think this was a game that was hard to hide in. Towards the end of the game sitting at 9 points there no one was going to trade when you are stuck. Plus you became enemy number 1, even though you had no winning moves, where multiple players had downed dev cards.
There will be many losses on this channel as we move up the leaderboard - Be prepared! Lol It’s a tough position given the early rolls and orange’s mono, but we have chances with a few good rolls at the end. Considering orange won with pulling, if we could get enough cards to pull on the last orbit it would have been our W instead. Hindsight of course. Overall a great game and good instructive insights, especially for placements. Appreciate the comment!
(Saying this as it happens, after 1st road toward 9 12, so we shall see) Any consideration that 9 is just a poison roll (puts black ahead of you when it rolls as black is on both 9s) and hence not worth going for? Edit: in the end, it kinda mattered, kinda didn't. Black was still on 8 vps with no more cities and having to pull for win or road road settle if you hadn't gone to 9 12 and eventually plowed the other spot on 9 wheat as well.

I hope this comes across as constructive criticism and not being mean, but Dylan, you gotta slow down how fast you talk. You’re super smart, and there’s a lot to learn from you. But I simply can’t keep up with you.
Dylan has something we call “mission energy”- I need to help him with his “time management energy” though. ;) Honestly, we were having a great time and he was really excited to play this game. I don’t blame him for speaking fast.
I think he gets anxious/excited to play because he keeps clicking the dice roll on other people's turns and keeps clicking the trade button even though players haven't accepted yet (you could make a case he doesn't want to risk losing the trade but nobody's accepting the trades).
I think it's kind of unfair to the rest of the table to have someone there, especially when they are rank one. In Poker it's called real time assistance and a ban able offense
I can understand why you might feel that way. This was played on my account with my guidance for majority of the moves. At the end of the day, this was only for a select few games to share with the community and provide teaching value. Some people might not like that but for me, the means justify the ends. Hope the video helps! :)
Bruv, it's a free Catan site that doesn't play for money at all. it's not like he's using a Catan AI engine to cheat or something (they don't exist atm [at least to my knowledge])

DyLighted starting to say “a world” instead of “a scenario” just like Dandy does 😂
I am pretty sure Dylan learned 10-12 new phrases this weekend while we were together lol
Drew's about to start saying "over here" and "that's so gross"
"Oh geez"
I very much enjoy the way you talk about the game. That’s why I’m here! Thanks for all your work Drew.
If a pseudonym in a game we're in ever says "pacing" we know who it is
Asking for this for like soooooo much in the DC channel but finally got to see you together

High level Catan is a treat. This was quite an interesting video, makes perfect sense you have shot up to nearly 5k subs so quickly.

I’m shocked at how long that 8-4-10 was available, if I was first placement I think that’s what I would’ve chosen lol
What up Big Dawg! 8410 is not bad for sure. Style is such an under-appreciated topic when it comes to placement.
If Dylighted and Drew can’t win a game working together, how are we supposed to 😭😂
