You hit the point, this spot the bars 7-9. I realize always emphasizing these bars after hearing students play the blues They always miss or anaware of their path from the Bb maj in far 7 to the Cm7 in bar 9. Not to mention the bass / piano or the guitar players. Thanks Chris. I love your lines too!
Notes to self: Bb blues Bb Eb7 Bb Bb | Eb7 Eb7 | Bb **Here** Barry teaches on 7th and 8th measure: "Bb up and down to the third of G" Alternatives: Bb - | Dm7 G7b9 | "Barry's" Bb - | Dm7 C#m7 | "Stormy monday" Bb - | Dm7 Db7b9 | Mediant Bb | Dm7 Dbdim7 | tonic diminished typical diminished passing chord They all go to 2 minor 7th on 9th beat (dominant) The stormy monday has parallel fifths in its typical guitarist rendition...
The tonic diminished is actually a diminished on flat III (lowered third) degree or on a sharp IV degree (raised four). Barry called this flat three diminished
Love it. You found a ton of beautiful examples. Really inspiring, brother
The swinging in those phrases is tight🔥🔥🔥🔥
Love it. I first heard red garland do this on some of those 50s Miles recordings.

Just a quick question: Did Barry ever talk about using the Harmonic Minor scale? For example over minor 2 5 1s ? Or is he always thinking in major?
Barry hated harmonic minor ,he puts the 6th diminished of the major relative to break that tension of a aum. 2nd between the 7th and the natural 6th.
When he does the seventh of Bb7 down to the third of G7, that’s harmonic minor
I’m a suck for the diminished one.
