nice work Lee! i use my speed file all the time, i use it for heavy bog work, i use about 80g-120g with it, and take 80% of the bog roughness away getting it close then go back to hand sanding. Also for the tub base you sanded, have a look at an "interface pad" for the orbital sander, i use that and red scotch-brite pad with it to condition surfaces for paint, makes multiple level/edge surfaces a breeze to sand/prep, the build it coming along great! looking forward to the 6-pack challenge race! ~Twisty
And yes I’m a qualified panel beater spray painter I’ve been in the trade since I was 15 I learned most of my skills from my father who was in the trade all his life I’m retired now and only work on my own projects hopefully my earlier comment will help you understand things a bit more about the panel straightening process.. as from what I can see your chasing your tail with filler work and epoxy by the looks of how your going you’ll end up with to much product on your panels and at the end result once it’s finished in colour you’ll have lots of sink back and wavy panels.. 😢 if that was my Ute I would of spend the time file finishing one panel at a time after the rust sections were done welded up took my time before any filler or high build primer was used back when I was doing restoration work every day was nothing for me to bare metal file finish and gap a whole mustang in a week or so including the rust repairs hand making lower quarter panels half door skins so on so on it’s a little hard to explain .. then I’d epoxy the whole car ready for Final finishing aka filler work.. anyway I wish you luck with your WB Ute .. your determination and effort is amazing and those air sander speed file things to me are useless really if you don’t know how to use one I’ve only found them good for sill panel repairs on customers cars that only wanted to pay for a quick hit flog and bog job on there shitboxers because they didn’t have enough money to pay for the real repair job
i hope you are able t pass on your knowledge to the next generation as its a dying trade for younger people. experience is the key to rebuilding these old girls.
You’ve missed the whole point here mate .. wish I could show you how to massage your your quarter panels as in when the Torno cover holes got welded up is when it needed the highs tapped into the lows . Before filler work started it’s painful for me to watch you using filler on panels that aren’t ready for filler yet would take me a few hours per side with a medium toe dolly and a slapper and push all those high into the low spots basically you need to use the round side of the dolly pushing on the inside of low spots while lightly tapping the high spots down as this process happens because you don’t have a glossy surface to see the lows and highs use a body file as a guide to massage the highs into the Lowes and get the poor thing straight then once it’s straight you then use a skim to level the Panel frustrating to see you trying to make it straight with filling because you’ve missed the most important step the panel beating bit .. and in most cases if you’re quarters are bad and have old repairs may need a hot 🔥 oxy shrink here and there to level it get it straight
You have more patience than I currently have for doing any sort of body work. Well done mate, it’s a grind.
