  • In this video, we'll show you how we made this round coffee table with spalted maple slabs, deep pour epoxy, and a metal base! We even welded the base ourselves and will have plans for the base available. This was our biggest epoxy pour yet and we learned a lot doing this project. Let us know what you guys think! More epoxy or not so much????

    I love your videos! They are so informative, they show your willingness to share your knowledge and your “just testing” mode including things that didn’t turn out the way you expected. A ton of your videos have risen on my scale of “this is how you do it”!
    Your video on x-carve vs onefinity was tantamount in my best-ever decision on a CNC purchase. Your products are top-shelf and your videos are too. Keep on being great.

    Lots of fun! I have some smaller live edge slabs that hoping to get to when I get my current commissions done but was hoping to cut out the circle on my onefinity after I pour for some end tables. Probably wasteful of wood. Love that you make your own legs!

    • @TwoMooseDesign
      @TwoMooseDesign  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks! the issue with the onefinity is the 1/4 bits can only cut so deep. which is why I used a jig and jig saw. if your piece was about 1.25" thick it would work great!

    • @JeffZ137
      @JeffZ137 2 роки тому

      I really appreciate your reply. That is actually just about how thick it is. Have a 3 inch (2 inch cutting area) bit that I use for 1.5 inch cribbage boards that works pretty good. If it goes well may have to finally upgrade to a spindle to get those 1/2 bits.

    If you use Rubio you don't have to sand to a really high grit. Although it is expensive.

    • @TwoMooseDesign
      @TwoMooseDesign  2 роки тому

      I had to sand the epoxy to a higher grit so you didn’t see swirls 🤷🏼‍♂️ I’m more so using up the odies. I just got a can of osmo too. I do like Rubio though I’ve used it on a lot of my larger pieces

  • @CustomCraftedDesigns

    Hi how come you did not cut out the table on the cnc? Came out great

    • @TwoMooseDesign
      @TwoMooseDesign  2 роки тому +1

      It was thicker than I could cut. I can only use 1/4” bits with my router and the max cut depth is just over an inch. I probably could have but didn’t want to risk it lol

    If I'm ever able to make a table that nice, I'd have achieved my woodworking goals. I notice you surfaced this before your spindle upgrade? Can you tell us about the feeds and speeds too? Also, what do you set your Makita router to as well? I've seen some comments on the OneFinity site making me scared of surfacing. Thanks

    • @TwoMooseDesign
      @TwoMooseDesign  Рік тому +1

      Hey! I believe I used a 1” or 1.25” being a larger bit I probably set the makita to 2-3 on the dial. Definitely start out with a low depth of cut. I don’t recall what I used exactly but I’d start out around .05 and 120ipm. If you add depth on your cut is lower my speed

    • @TwoMooseDesign
      @TwoMooseDesign  Рік тому +1

      If I’m surfacing my wasteboard I’ll run a depth of .04 and a speed of 150ipm or so. Again with a low router speed.

    Nope, that looks like a perfect chamfer to me, I just finished a rectangle spalted maple with black ( could be the brother to yours, it’s a perfect match ) and I cut a 45 degree chamfer and I think it looks too steep.

    Have we run out of all the good wood that we have to use plastic now to make firewood projects? These will never be antiques , why not spend less and buy better wood? Literally growing on trees. Everyday somewhere in the world’s cities, towns, forests, ancient trees are naturally fallen, salvage one, you won’t be sorry.

      These were sub par slabs that I got off facebook market place, I wanted to try an export project. You literally didn’t even watch the video how can you judge it? These slabs would have ended up in a fire pit most likely

      @@TwoMooseDesign the table looks great, and near the end it occurred to me to ask, was this table going to be for sale, or was it just a try-it-and-see project. How it turned out, seems to answer the question. Definitely put it on the market, it is great! Not everyone has an appreciation for “testing” a new technique. But you pulled it off for sure.
