    When we bought my wife’s 1965 Mustang, we immediately installed a dual reservoir master cylinder brakes. We are glad you made this video.

    I changed my manual drum brakes on my 68 Fairlane to Granada manual discs with a Maverick master cylinder. Works awesome with my 289 powered car.

    One thing I will say about using the single pot master cylinder. Seems like a lot of people who get into these cars that keep it single reservoir, don't inspect or replace their hard lines, don't replace the rubber hoses, don't replace the wheel cylinders, brakes out of adjustment, E brake doesn't work, etc then act surprised and blame the master cylinder for when something goes wrong. Most of these cars have rusty brake lines if they're still original and still susceptible to blow out even if someone puts a dual reservoir master cylinder on all the rest of it should be done as well. I personally have experienced a dual reservoir master cylinder totally fail, all the fluid puked out the back of it, no pressure pumping the brakes, etc. I know of one other master cylinder that failed that way also, on a 2003 yukon XL. The dual reservoir is definitely safer and preferred, but they aren't a 100% guarantee either.
    One thing I will say, the 4 wheel drum brakes on my 64 galaxie stop just about as well as the 4 wheel disc brakes with dual piston front calipers on my 99 grand marquis which has fantastic brakes, and yes, the galaxie will stop powerfully after hard braking more than once. I've thrown more than a few people forward slamming on the brakes in that car, and everybody was surprised it has 4 wheel drums.

    Great info as always Jeff, thanks for everything!! People want to see every step of the restoration, so if it needs passenger floor pans, let’s do it.

    Great video as always mate. I've just put a manual front disc kit (4 piston KH type) from CSRP on the wagon. Pedal feel is a little different, but all in all pretty good. I decided against the vacuum booster as the space between the firewall and the tower wouldn't have fit a booster without a bracket. Like I said, feels a bit different in the pedal but there is plenty of brakes there.

    I updated my manual drum brakes on my 1968 Mustang to the power 4 piston Kelsey Hayes disk brakes from CSRP and glad I did. When manual drum you wander if you'll stop in time and a big safety issue

    Good brakes are not overrated. Found out the hard way when a master cylinder failed and the pedal went to the floor. Had to check my shorts after that episode.

    A video on the floor pans demoing the difference between lap weld and butt weld installation, pros and cons would be great. I butt welded in my 66 mustang Pans, with basically zero experience, using butt clamps and I was happy with the results. Wish I’d spent more time cleaning them up and understood Seam sealer better. I don’t know that I got that right.

    Dad once failed to realize the star wheel adjuster in one brake drum had frozen up in his 1966 Ranchero. The adjuster fell out from between the shoes, and the fruit bowl MC left him with no brakes at all. He said it was pretty exciting. Honestly, you've just done multiple videos about replacing floor pans. I think I'm good for now. It was all good information, but how much can you add to the subject right now?

    It's NOT an "emergency brake". It's a parking brake. You CAN (and should) use it in an emergency, but it will take a lot of time to stop the car.
    The 1976-1977 Maverick came standard with NON-power front disc brakes. The power brakes were optional.

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  5 місяців тому

      Good to know on both of those things. You have to remember I'm using my brain which isn't as wonderful as it used to be. As to the Mavericks I thought that after 1974 they were all power.

    I bought a disc brake package for my 67 Mustang and it came with the black dial type proportioning valve. Would it be better to use this or buy the brass one you showed in the video?

    • @gregschmid7684

      If you have the dial-type valve, you ALSO need the brass one which is a distribution block. The dial valve is for fine-tuning the rear only.
