George always had his act together. He never got stupid and messed up like other rockers of his generation. He takes care of himself and he's a brilliant, philosophical, together dude. We could all learn from him. And he still plays extremely well. A lot of players from his generation totally dropped the ball. George has always kept his chops up. Back in the 80s when I was a young shredder George was a massive influence on me and I always enjoyed his candor in interviews I'd read in the guitar mags. I've always admired George for both his talent and image as he held his composure to still remain humble even during his plateau years at the top. The quiet guy sitting in the corner comes out with his guitar and completely blows you away unexpectedly. I loved that about him!
Actually there's a lot of really weird shit in there. But that's George. Like his hero Jeff Beck he takes his shot every time and sometimes it's a bit messy. This is actually one recorded lead he should stick closer to, since it's one of his very best.
He's a killer player, love the newer takes on the Dokken stuff. Sounds more raw and I also dig his rythm playing. Also, his freakin' tone. Just killer. I saw him in a similar sized gig a year before, he's def. on point these days. Hopefully COVID doesn't keep these guys off the road for too long. The only criticism I have is at times he could have used a tad more gain for his live style but hey, he likes to work for it.
Often the case with a lot of guys from the 70s and 80s who have a preference for Plexi style amps. They often rely on sheer volume (power amp distortion) to generate their sound. Hard to pull it off, but it gives a much more articulate sound rather than the buzzy sound of pre-amp distortion. You’ve got to work the vibrato hard to get the notes ringing out as George obviously does.
Sinking Yes a lot of guys use high gain and delay to mask what they are doing. That adds a bit of polish which can disguise when playing isn’t terribly clean. Very loud Amps take a lot of controlling, they will feedback very quickly and are unkind to sloppy playing. When you plug in to a plexi that’s really loud for the first time it can be a bit demoralising. With practise you learn to mute and roll off volume to control feedback and noise.
Don’t need much gain with amps turned way up feedbacking. Controlled feedback gives you that sustain that guitarists are always looking for. Gain is just a cheap way to get it

I saw Lynch at L'Amores in NY in the early 90's. I'll never forget that night.......….I got in early and was right at the front of the stage, the lights go out and people start cheering......George is still back stage and I guess checking his guitar.....everything is silent when...……………. BOOM............he hits an A chord that made the entire building shake!!! I felt as though my ribs just cracked! LOL I had just started playing guitar back then and I remember thinking that even if I don't get very good, I can always turn a Marshall 100 watt full stack on 10 and do that! I'll never forget the sound and power of that one chord!!!
I saw Don and some other cat open for Queensryche playing Dokken songs on acoustic guitars, very good and interesting. No bass or drums, just those two sitting side by side in chairs. 2008?
Reading lots of comments here on George "forgetting" the solo and "butchering it." I've gone back and listened to it a couple of times. Starts at about 3:30. As a long time guitar player, with okay chops and a good ear, I don't hear it. The recording isn't that great, but he plays a good solo and does not butcher it. Is it his best? Probably not, but it's clear to me he's still got the skill, ear and chops. George has a very unique way of playing which is why he's been a stand-out for so long.
I graduated he in 87. Started playing in 84. Dokken licks were the first ones I ever learned so I'm a HUGE fan of George's and have never said a negative thing about him..til now. What the f was he thinking when he put a covered Les Paul type pick up in that guitar? WTF?? Somebody take it, bust it up and give him his Kamikaze.
The studio version of this song has one of my All-time favorite solos...this live version just doesn't hold up in my opinion. He's still incredibly gifted and and his playing is far beyond anything I'll ever play on my guitar...but I wish he would have tried to play the solo the he did on Under Lock and Key.
The studio version is also one of all time favourites but I have learned to appreciate George and how his "in the moment" ad libbing can also create a great, brand new solo. Each show is different which also gives each one it's 9wn identity. I saw them 3 nights in a row and each show was different. I find myself more curiously awaiting his solo parts for each song wondering what it will sound like this time. The only thing is that some shows are better than others. George plays what's on his mind at that moment in time and I think that's cool and it keeps him interested as well rather than playing the same old same old night after night... or "night by night"...lol. George is a jem no matter how you slice it. Glad you liked it. There's lots of Lynch on my channel that I recorded. If you don't care for one of them, look for the same song at another show. You'll never hear the same solo twice. I guarantee it.
I actually prefer a different live performance, too many players now want to sound studio live with modelers, click and backing tracks and totally synthetic live sound, but not George!
F yeah....Lynch is 65 years old here ! Still in better shape and plays better than most of the 20 somethings in music. Love that dude.

and he just keeps getting better and better.
Top notch tone !!!
These guys sound great!
anybody knows in wich language is written lynch's tatoo what does it says?
EVH,Michael Schenker, and Mr Scary, that's it for me! Hi from France :)
Hello France! Thanks for the comment and for checking out Lynch here! Greetings from Canada!
I met Michael Schenker..Bodo Schopf and bass player rocker in Fort Lauderdale..Florida at a rock club there..surreal!!🎸🎸🎸🎁💝🎈😍😘
All that matters is that man's hands.
Calm down dude, you're gonna stroke out lol It's his song and his guitar. Get it ?
Humbuckers RULE!
Love that guitar!!
@@timothyireson1076 ... Sounds good! Yes... He's phenomenal. Best vibrato ever.
Studio and Live- two different worlds, buddy. Ever played a show?
timothy ireson Great take Timothy. Agreed, and thanks for posting all of this awesome content.
I actually prefer a different live performance, too many players now want to sound studio live with modelers, click and backing tracks and totally synthetic live sound, but not George!
Jimmy D from the Bullet Boys, sweet deal!
Thank you... I didn't know that.
