A guitarist can kick ass well into his 70s, I'd guess, but a vocalist? Don sounds strained at best. You know which 73 year old vocalist still sounds half way decent? Paul Rogers.
Superb version. I’ve nothing against bands tuning down a couple of notes when they get older, as long as they deliver a good version. Great harmonies too.
I think here she means, that naturally their tuned down as far as vocals because as we all get older we lose the ability that we had when we were younger it’s just natural
Actually, the beats per minute are what is different. Slowed down in order for everyone in the group to give the best performance they can in this stage in they're careers.
The reason I was shocked is because many years ago, my friend & I were working with Poison on a project and one of those summers, Dokken toured with them. Don had broken a leg and was hobbling around the stage all doped up on painkillers.🥴 At one point, he decided it'd be a good idea to twirl his mic stand around and clobbered poor Jeff on the head, making him bleed. 🤕 Because Jeff & I had a mutual friend, we exchanged some emails (also with Reb Beach, who was with them at the time) after that and discussed the incident. Believe it or not, Jeff told me about leaving Dokken before it was made public. He's a great guy.
Good too see them back together 🤘if you don’t like Don’s vocals go listen to Paul Stanley sing. These guys are not 20 anymore, they are in their 60’s. Everyone wants all the 80’s bands to reform with original members then rip on them for sounding different 40 years later.
icantdrivefiftyfive Well, Joe Elliot of Def Leppard can still sing has he did 35 years ago. And Joey Tempest of Europe can still belt it out S he used to. This is just sad what Don Dokken has come to. Even Marq Torien of Bullet Boys can still sing.
Of course he's not the only member but being a guitar player and he's my favorite guitar player that's who I gravitate towards. Yes I am a fanboy been a fan of his since the 80's when I started playing. His phrasing just blew me away. Dokken fan since Breaking the Chains.
Mark Chang , Lynch is easily one of the top few guitarists to burn through the 80s. He tore the band apart, and deserves blame there, but he is also what took the band from very good to one of a kind phenomenal. I spotted you call him "overrated" in another comment... pffft... not even remotely.
Everyone gives Don a hard time about his vocals, but age, throat surgery and stomach cancer/treatments will change your voice. It is sad he doesn't have as much pitch as he did, but at least the guys got back together long enough to do this. I did hear a recent live version of one of their tunes and Don managed to do his legendary higher pitch for a verse. If I find it,I'll post it. But Jeff, George and Mick still definitely got and Don is trying. The unofficial video without overdub sounds better, it's hard hear some though
I agree. Don is in his late 60's. this is the best he can do. He doesnt make excuses. Cant understand the need to rip the guy. Dont like it, dont buy or watch it.
The cigarettes didn't help his voice/throat either. Let's face it, you have to be an absolute health nut to pull this off correctly in your sixties. Only Glenn Hughes comes to mind as an advanced age singer who can still hit the high notes well.....
i'm really kinda discovering them for the first time and i'm 48. i never really gave them the chance and i don't know why. they are playing near me in the next few weeks and this song is what the commercial plays for the advertisement and i had to look it up because it sounds so cool

I was a kid seeing them all, but I knew that was such a fucking moment. I told myself music ain't ever gonna be better than that day. And yeah music is really weird now days, not at all like it once was. I'm just thankful for seeing these guys that day. Seeing Dokken in 2018 like this takes me back to that day. Still sounding good.

As talented as they are as individual artists and with their other musical projects, when they play together it is something greater than the sum of the parts. They might not be best buddies, but they have a chemistry together that is rare, and only shared by the great bands. Too bad they didn't continue the reunion past Japan, it would have been epic.
@@daveg4236 That may be so, you're talking about 4 dudes that ruled like kings in the '80's, and now time, our worst enemy, has taken it's toll. Yeah, money sure, but, fuck it, they still get up there and do it LIVE, unlike other fucks from that time that just sit around talking shit. 🤘💯
Well kinda, the reunion took a while to happen not because George and Don wants to still kill each other, but because Jeff was busy doing gigs with Foreigner.
