I sat next to Duff at an awards dinner about 10 years ago and he was the sweetest most humble guy. I am a nobody but he was warm and friendly and chatted away to us whilst Jimmy Page and Steve Tyler sat at nearby tables. His lady friend was equally as charming.
Whenever I think of Duff McKagen, I think about how he survived his exploding pancreas, replaced booze with mountain biking, and lived to tell the tale.
I remember turning on the radio or listen to Howard Stern and he was in the middle of a conversation with someone. I said, "That sounds like Duff, but sober." Then Duff went into how he stopped drinking because of his pancreas.

I know exactly what that feeling is like.
