Gandhar Sawant Rosso IIs are better than M5s but M7RR which are also available for those sizes are much, much better than both Rosso II and M5 ;) Pirelli owns Metzeler by the way.
PowerDrift My friend recently bought the 2015 d390 as well. I love the bike...one problem tho its the sound. I prefer the old ones with the louder rougher sound. Will it eventually sound like the old ones in time?

Owner of slipper clutch version and watching this video again in 2019 just love the reviews of these old dukes. Tbh, I've grown old with this machine and couldn't imagine my life without this little monster. This machine always made me smile through thick and thin and it has the character to take out the children within you in a flick of your wrist, trust me its an honest confession after an ownership of 4yrs. Anyone who's reading this if you wish buy one they're cheap at secondhand market and preserve her she deserves all the pampering and you'll ever regret. The decision of buying one is what I'll always cherish and thanks to powerdrift for this review it did help. Thanks Sarge the pdarmy misses you.
P.s: do read the pros and cons before buying one. If you can accept her for the way she is, she will serve you well.

@kshitijsharma26 look for white smoke and check for any cracks at the air filter box. If thrs any crack, it'll start throwing white smoke sooner or later. This means a block/piston replacement. Check for the history if any air filter box replacement is done or block/piston is replaced. No white smoke or airfilter block piston replacement done thn go ahead and also if you have no issues with the engine being worked on you can still buy one and enjoy her as it is. Always keep an eye on the airfilter box crack.

I currently own an Apache RTR 180 which is about 5 and a half years old and was amongst the best motorcycles to ride in India at the time, I've done numerous trips especially around Western and Southern India and I just love it for its Handling that being said I recently had a test ride on the Duke 390 and boy did it blow my mind, Insane power, good braking(yes maybe the initial bite could have been better but then again its progressively very good) and the Soft compound Metzelers stick like glue, an absolute competition killer in today's market, hope to save enough dough and get one soon, continue with the awesome reviews guys, you guys always motivate me to ride more and ride safe. My bike is a Triumph Trident 900 100bhp.. Nice bike but to heavy to have some fun in the corners... 😉👍
RM1LLER I personally would recommend a duke 690 rather than a 390 if you are moving down from a bigger bike, since you may get bored with the 390's limited top speed and acceleration!

Robert Moolenaar get some 600cc naked street fighter. Maybe fz07 or sv650 . 390 is little underpowered. I mean yeah they are well powered but 600cc's are way to go if you really want to enjoy highway and corners at the sams time

Hi i have just bought KTM Duke 390 2015 in May 2015... And glad to inform that i am the first one in Ahmadabad having Slipper Clutch... And my experience of riding is too good... While downshifting in cornering i can literally feel the difference... My friends having previous Duke 390 and a good rider have just driven my bike and they got very impressed with changes my bike's engine have...!!!! #PDArmy

+Sagar Sheldekar - I am planning to upgrade to a ktm rc390 next year. And with speculations of slipper clutch being added to the package, it makes the deal a lot more sweeter. Just wanted to ask how bad is the engine vibration on the rc390? Does it really get to you or is it ignorable once the 'run in' period is over. And the radiator heat. The new Duke seems to have made some adjustments. Is there a chance of seeing the same through the rc fairing? I will mostly be using the bike for super short alternate day city commutes and weekend getaways.
Your input on this will be highly appreciated. Thanks and keep up the good work.

I felt my duke 390 having some throttle issue. Whenever I'm accelerating it goes fine, but when ever I'm releasing the Gas...all of sudden it becomes zero rpm. Can you just suggest what should I do...

well , big fan of power drift, great videos ,
i need some expertise of yours regarding my bike upgrade ,
story starts from my first performance bike being duke 200 , thats when i started loving bikes , i rode it over 10,000 kms in 4 months , then sold it , and got Duke 390 , i was in love with this machine , with 2 times engine replacement , i rode it over 14,000 kms for another 6 months , and then , i wanted a 4 cylinder , so i bought a Honda CB400 2006 , it was a great bike , but it had many faulty instruments , because of which i had to sell it within a month , then i was back with the question , which one to buy now ? somehow i had a soft corner for duke 390 , but i had already used it , so i decided rather to go for RC390 , its been 6 months now , I've done 15,000 kms , and now I'm done with it .. bike is good , but its not serving my purpose , i do daily commuting in city of around 40 kms , as well long rides and corner attacking and stuff , but somehow its a true track bike , and doesn't fit outside of that ..
now I'm leaning towards ducati scrambler , i really liked the design , but somehow , not sure if its a good deal , I'm not going to keep the bike for long , so is it gone be my best buy , why scrambler ? and why not duke 390 with slipper clutch ? is it worth to put 5 lakhs more than duke 390 for scrambler ? is it value for money ? any alternative ?

I know no one has been given a chance to ride it and it was JUST showed at the EICMA 2016. I called up one of the KTM Sales stores and they are saying that the Bike would be available in India in 2017 Feb - March.

You mean after 1st gear, there is no need to grip the clutch lever Nd go directly change gear from your foot? Is that how the slipper clutch works?

Hi PD Army, jus bought the 2016 Duke390, only been 3 days riding it,, i m getting a click on the clutch lever everynow and then when downshifting,, to best explain how it feels, i wud say it feels as though the clutch cable has snapped off,, although everything remains normal,, can u shed some light into this?
A lot of times, you lose traction when you try to downshift which is not good. Slipper clutch helps by reducing back-torque and you can take that corner with confidence. With the slipper clutch, the effort you place to pull the clutch is lesser.
It's really nice what KTM is doing with their motorcycles in India, it shows they care about Indian Motorcycle enthusiasts.

however i have some serious questions ,
1. i am planning to buy a ktm 390 in this month but i am real confused as to which one shall i buy, RC390 or duke390, i need a bike that can do touring around 1000kms (once in 6 months), track riding as well as a bike that cruises well in the city and on the highway at constant speeds.
and the big deal is that i would buy the one that powerdrift suggests me, this much confused i am coz i love both these bikes a lot and have been saving funds to get one since a long long time.
please suggest me a wise choice. (i am avg built 5'8")
2. Also are these new changes in 2015 390duke implied exactly the same on 2015 RC390 as well ?

To be fair dude the rc is utterly and completely track focused its a bad touring bike (uncomfortable posture, stiff suspension ) its build for the track ao rc for the track and duke for the rest but the thing about duke is , its good on the track too

That is something you'll have to ask the service center guys.

well you can still rev match for better pick-up :)
Anil T.V Slipper clutches don't eliminate the need for rev matching. You can still do that if you like. In an emergency situation however you could bang down the gears without getting any wheel hop. My CBR has a slipper clutch but I still rev match anyway.

At the time of reviewing please don't concentrate only on corners but also hit bikes on bad roads and straight roads so that we can know how it withstands with windblasts and unstteled roads.so we can know about its practicality.
I know it will take more time but will be very helpful.

joe jones Not yet, we are guessing that since this is a first generation Slipper clutch for this motor, it will take some amount of test for it to be plonked in their race bred racoons!

does the slipper clutch has any effect on the engine braking?
Yes and No. If you engine break right, you won't make the wheels hop and so there will not be an impact. But.. If you are simply downshifting and being Genghis Khan on those clutch plates and sprockets, then yes it will let the clutch slip and ease you into the engine braking range

I intend to buy the KTM Duke 390 version 2015 the thing I wanted to know was that the older model of the Duke 390 had some heating issues and also people used to say that your thighs get roasted when you ride the bike in shorts.
The new model by KTM claims that the radiator fans have been designed in such a way that the heat from the engine is thrown to the ground instead of the rider.
As you'll have had an opportunity to ride on the new model of the Duke 390 I wanted to know how are the heating issues with the bike and does One's thighs still fry with the NEW Duke 390 . Please let me know ... thnx

Is the slipper clutch only for the Indian market? I ask because the KTM website do not say that the 2015 Duke 390 has a slipper clutch.

+siddhant kumar +Ashish Yadav helpful to kill that downshifting rear wheel lock-up at higher RPMs., when you ride a comparatively high power motorcycle this effect is much more significant(but is there on all motorcycles) as the engine is big with loads of breaking power when you downshift.
For a demonstration take your R15 or pulsar to over 6000RPM goto a turn and downshift! the rear tyre will have a brief lock-up that will hinder your stability.
For commuting and for stop and go traffic which one is better rc390 or duke390

Love the way Power Drift have come so far providing the BEST automobile reviews for us "Indians". Now coming to this Video i was watching this along with ma frns & there seems to be a bigger rant among us as to how the slipper clutch works, some argue that while shifting gears we need not use the clutch, some say that the downshifts are more smoother but one still need to use the clutch, some say the upshifts can be done without pulling the clutch lever, so experts could you please help us get this confusion cleared of our heads??? its ok if i am sounding dumb to all but i would love to clear ma head.. :)
Slipper clutch allows hard downshifts without locking the backwheel..locking the backwheel does engine braking..this will result in time loss for racers...
Shashank karanth you can upshift and downshift in any bike if you know the perfect rev/speed to do it
I'm not an expert but I will tell one thing which I know is that u can upshift without pulling clutch not downshift
watch videos of vikas rachamalla one of the best Indian motovlogger in one of his videos he explains how slipper clutch works and in another video he ll tell and show upshifting without pulling clutch :)

well since i own one, I would like to give a more practical view on this slipper clutch model, everything you said is absolutely correct, but still the heat is tremendous on stop and go traffic, second, (this is not a personal experience but a fellow rider's) he had pirelli rosso tyres on duke 390, and he changed to metz because he felt the slight lack of grip.
And one last thing, that I am disappointed, that I went into a pot hole at 70kmph, just a six inches types pot hole, and my rim is bent, still no air leaks, but still the rims are not suitable for indian road conditions.
Chain cover still rattles, and the most annoying thing on new dukes is that the nuts which hold the stand will go loose before 3k kilometers, do keep in mind( this is has been faced by 3 15' model dukes and can be fixed from service center, but in the worst case, you wont be able to start the bike because of sensor)
these were the negatives, positives you all know, its one hell of a ride

sarath chelsea the problem is on a hot day, when you are coming back from a ride, and the heat is like killing your legs if you arent wearing proper riding shoes and pants, and about the alloys, I know they are light weight alloys, but in my opinion they should increase a bit of weight and make it with some stronger material.
Those alloys cant handle indian situations well

@ Powerdrift,, Guys m confused between Honda Cbr 250r abs and new ktm duke 390.. my daily running is 65kms a day fr a work place and back home. plz help me out. e1 any oder byk suggestion is also welcome. my budget is 2 lakhs.
+PRATHAM1991 65kms a day will be using about 150 rs worth of fuel everyday on either of these bikes. The CBR is yet to get a significant upgrade but if you are travelling on the highway, it will be easy peasy! The Duke promises performance like no other in that bracket! The Duke has a upper hand with the slipper clutch and easily available spares!

+mohd noor Get the ktm duke 390 It's abs can be turned off, now has slipper clutch, vibrates less and the over heating issue was fixed!
Are there any changes made to the alloy wheels in this newer version of Duke 390 to address the alloy cracking issue the older one had or is it the same?

so ummmm I have a question,
I currently own a T-bird 500 but it has started to give me trouble, and so I have decided to buy something else (had it for 3 yrs now). I was staring at a duke RC 390 the other day and I think I can live with a duke for the next 3 yrs. But I still can't wrap my head around that weird engine sound that KTM bikes make..
Do you have any other suggestions, or perhaps some other up coming bikes that I could possible go for. And please don't suggest me to wait for the Himalayan, I was eager about the upcoming 750cc from RE but I don't think I can live with whatever fuel economy it gives.
Can you guys please suggest me something?

A multitude of uses really, but mostly for getting me to work which is a 10 minutes ride away with less traffic and about 20-25 with traffic. And some 30-40 km rides once or twice in a month. Some hour ride within the city at times.
I just completed about 500 kms on my 2016 duke 390.. I have a small issue, whenever i decelerate or brake, there is a clicking noise coming from where the chain is.. It is very noticable now, any idea what the noise might be? Is it something to do with the plastic chain guard?
Has the chain come loose already. Head down to the SVC immediately!

PowerDrift ... I bought the duke390 with the slipper clutch at march and have almost clocked 3500 kms but the gears of the 390 is not smooth as yamaha, suzuki or honda bikes. Is it common in every duke?
