The batteries it came with were junk, so I got some real 3,200mAh EBL 18650's, and I can use that thing for a hell of a long time. Its even adjustable vertically. The packaging itself screamed cheap... Red LED mode might be useful for nighttime map reading (for those of you under 30 years old, we used to have actual printed maps that you actually had to look at so you knew how to get somewhere, essentially a printed copy of Google Maps but with more accuracy) but it's pointless because you can't even get the light to shine in your lap without some serious contortions of the spinal column!
The red light would be very good for night vision preservation. With the addition of a small foam pad that little light may well be remarkably useful! Going to buy one.
I got a headlamp from AliExpress recently, about 7USD, but it's an 18650 based one, including a carrying case. I was actually pretty impressed by it, it has both a COB for a wide light, and a spot light. It also angles like the one you showed in this video. Pretty nice light for what it is.

I've once poked a 2000mAh cell in a power bank, I though seal it back with tape would save it but oxygen has gotten in and destroyed the anode/cathode inside it, the cell becomes spongy and loose inside
Can confirm. Had an old laptop battery that puffed up, naively poked a vent hole in it to shrink it, it died within a few days tops. Luckily it was old to begin with but my meddling didn't help it.
So, I've got a bit of this dark grey EVA packaging foam (very dense stuff, but still flexible) that comes with high end enterprise level HDD packaging, I would just cut a little wedge out of it and glue it to the back of the light to angle it downward. Easy fix on an otherwise decently priced lamp. I think I might buy one and do this, cause it looks rather good otherwise. I think this would be good for attaching to the molle straps on the shoulder straps of a day pack.
A piece of foam just at the top would solve the issue. The stuff you use for drafts on doors and windows. Sticky backed too. It would push the top forward and change the angle of the torch. This method technically makes it adjustable.
As the light was unboxed I thought the settings/run time grid looked familiar, it's the same font/graphics as my Niterider front bike light packaging. Ironic they used that as the torch looks like it's actually based on one of the many rip offs of Lezyne Zecto drive lights.
The S4 diode is probably to drop the voltage since they most likely used a 3.3V chip. 4.2 - 0.7 = 3.5 which is within the limits of most 3.3V parts (3.6V).
I wonder if this is a repurposed bicycle light. The modes and lack of angle adjustment indicate that it’s probably designed to attach to a bicycles handlebars, perhaps with a different back that has some sort of bracket.

In my country people traveling on roller scates, scateboard etc. are subject to the same lighting rules as bicycles. However I doubt these units meet the modern requirements for intensity, red color etc. [Edit: spelling]
Regarding the LED COB: Could this module be meant for lights with an adjustable color temperature? Cold white LEDs for most of the light and the reds for optional "warmth".

Hey Clive, I too am obsessed with buying and taking apart cheap Chinese stuff but got tired of it quite quickly. I bought some similarly priced electronics on Decathlon as its usually better quality sans some features while being a similar price, can you check some of the cheaper ones out. They're all made in china after all.
Google "SHL-1855 headlamp". It's the best headlamp I have ever owned, using two 18650 it has great battery life, the lamp is pivoting and bright as heck and it doesn't mind rain or snow. And the best thing is that I think it cost me about 5€ without batteries with shipping, as I don't care for cheap useless rechargeable batteries. I've been using it whole winter while taking the dog out and I think I've charged the batteries (NCR18650B) twice. The best thing about it is that when the batteries ran out of juice in middle of the forest on "high" once, the "low" setting lasted for whole 20 minutes, enough to get out from the forest without resorting to crappy cellphone lamp and stumbling around in the dark. One bad thing I can say about the headlamp is that after four months of use it wouldn't turn on again, and after a short inspection it turned out there was a cold solder on the battery compartment which was easy enough to fix. Oh and the beam could be wider if you like that sort of thing, I like it tight and focused as it's been pretty dark and muddy winter here in Finland so it does not bother me.
a Professor Farnsworth couldn't come up with a better angle either... But it might have been handy for Asterix&Obelix village, as they always dreaded the sky falling on their heads - and with this they'd be hoping for some early warning

Great for dealing with wasps in a loft as wasps cant see red so you're somewhat safer. Go with the white light and you'll end up with them attacking you.
Thanks, Clive. Weird that they never considered the angle of the beam when the rest of the design is not too bad, maybe no one tried it before they went into production?

I would appreciate your opinion, I notice when I run devices with multiple batteries be they say sensor activated mini lights, clocks etc when the batteries "die" pretty much every time I put them in charger at slowest setting lets say 3 used in same device one normally shows near or full, 1 or none show an error code but the 1 or 2 that show as low charge within a few minutes show as near half charge if not 3 or 4 fifths charged, I have even put batteries in charger for literally a minute on lowest charge and put them back in device and they last another few weeks/months so I feel they just need jump started rather than charged. Is there a device or trick I can use for this?
Where do you guys look for the alphanumeric codes on chips? I have some SMD mosfets I got from digikey, but don't remember the part number (and don't have access to the order history). The markings don't seem to show up anywhere online
Clive, those actually are bike lights. It seemed familiar right away, and after a while I realised that it's a knock-off of the Lezyne clip-on "Zecto drive" lights, the case looks exactly the same, they just put a COB LED array in and a lens to make it somewhat more directional. You can get loads of more or less exact copies of that line of light from China. I guess someone thought they can get more value out of their bike light knock-off production by adapting it to a wider use base. That's not uncommon, when browsing aliexpress you often find the same product in a number of different guises and applications. So it truly is a pile of crap, as it is a knock-off of a product that is shitty to begin with (Lezyne bike stuff sucks, don't buy it), and it is pressed into service in an application that is not suitable for.
Hey big Clive, Maybe, if you felt like it was worth it, make a necklace where it points down in front of you at the table? @@fillg With two lights you get two straps making it fit around your waist, which might also fix the direction issue.
In my country people traveling on roller scates, scateboard etc. are subject to the same lighting rules as bicycles. However I doubt these units meet the modern requirements for intensity, red color etc. [Edit: spelling]
@@johncrowerdoe5527 Probably have to do a whole lot more running to make a twenty inch "waistband" fit.
@@twicebittenthasme5545 Not as hard as fitting a 10 inch headband around your scull. Remember the waistband would be two headbands.
Try using it without the reflector.
I found one very similar to this that works really well after I pulled the spotlight bits out of it.
I bought one of these. It made me a little light-headed.
Should do a breakdown of Nitecore's NU32. Not sure if you can get in trouble for that though
Regarding the LED COB: Could this module be meant for lights with an adjustable color temperature? Cold white LEDs for most of the light and the reds for optional "warmth".
Last night boredom finally beat me, so about 8pm i sat outside in the garden and started to sing if ya hate Man Utd clap ya hands and every fucker in country joined in. 😂😂💛💙💛💙
"Dammit.....we forgot the hinge!"
Why not wear it upside down so its lower?
" Where is the pen? ... pen-is " that was a chuckle :)
a Professor Farnsworth couldn't come up with a better angle either... But it might have been handy for Asterix&Obelix village, as they always dreaded the sky falling on their heads - and with this they'd be hoping for some early warning
eBay is the used "junk shop" of
on line shopping
In the video I just recorded I described eBay as China's dumpster.
Id say this is better as a light too put on your bike, like on the back of it with the strap with the red blinking mode & maybe one on the handlebars.
And I’ve Got:” The Comic Strip Presents “ iAm Lugg So Of Mill”( Robbie Coltrane):” Woukk on d You Like To See How The Magic Staff Works Peter( To Aidrian Eddmonson As Peter The Innocent?” “ Yes , That Sounds Noce”🤪😂✍️
Great for dealing with wasps in a loft as wasps cant see red so you're somewhat safer. Go with the white light and you'll end up with them attacking you.
Thanks, Clive. Weird that they never considered the angle of the beam when the rest of the design is not too bad, maybe no one tried it before they went into production?
the designers were a lot shorter. :)
I think this was originally designed as a bicycle light. Hence the option for red. I have a pair of bike lights that look very similar to this.
Hey Clive, first off. I love your videos, you always keep me laughing. I want ask if you have ever tested the KSGER T12 STM32 Soldering Stations. I would love to hear your Opinions on that station. Now, go have a Dark and Stormy.
the '?' custom chip... for the preprogrammed decadic SOS flash etc functions?
I’ve always been curious as to why old tube TVs are so dangerous to take apart even if they aren’t plugged in, that would be a cool video
It's mainly because the glass cathode ray tube is part of a high voltage capacitor that can deliver a significant shock.
Red led under the phosphor?! I want a good flashlight like that now!
Question, Just where was the "Exploding Containment Pie Pan" BTW ???
It's should be on call at all times! After ALL, This is Big Clive after all... :-D
LLAP
It had a volatile lithium device in it.
Back in the day, adding the word "fish" to the end of any communication was code for, "You took the bait."
Maybe this is like an left-handed guitar. Perhaps it is designed to be used only by folks cursed with a fivehead.
This is why I like this channel, battery pierced, "oh well", other people who accidentally crack a CFL open, "OH MY GOD CALL THE HAZMAT TEAM MERCURY POISONING WILL KILL US ALL!!!!!", cos intelligence will always be nice and calm... :D
The markings don't seem to show up anywhere online
glew a mirror to the front or some padding upper back ^^' I guess like it is now you could go as a lighthouse on halloween with it ;)
Clive, those actually are bike lights.
It’s a cheap bicycle light hence the red and the flashing modes
And red does not destroy the night vision for astronomers etc.
Was the explosion containment pie dish full of pie?
I wonder how it would perform as a belt buckle torch instead.
Hey big Clive,
Maybe, if you felt like it was worth it, make a necklace where it points down in front of you at the table? I don't know if the things worth it? just a thought.
*EDITED. just finished watching video. If you tear the lithium battery just a little, could you sell it with aluminum foil tape or any kind of tape?
Maybe it is for Cro-Magnon man only? It is all in the slope.
