Pretty nice find! At Big Lots here in the States, I got a USB powered light with a similar light board, 3 lights high 10 lights wide, yeah 30 lights, eye searing, less eye searing, strobe, hold for SOS flash. All plastic, handle has a carabiner style clip, folds 90 degrees for lighting hanging off the side of something metal as it has 2 really nice magnets in the handle as well. It also doubles as a battery pack to charge your cell phone. Was more pricey at $10 US.

I ended up buying that large plastic £2 'lightswitch' which takes 3xAAA's and has 2 large LED COBs to salvage, it'll be perfect.

I saw this video back in February Clive and on the basis of it bought a few of these - two for myself and a few to give to friends. After 9 months of use though I have finally binned my two although they were still working well. The reason? The brightness goes down quite quickly in use but mainly because they are not adjustable in terms of up/down and in my case the bright area was way too high (Neanderthal forehead angle perhaps?). Just bought a new rechargeable head torch from Toolstation for £10. Admittedly 10x the price but what a joy to use in comparison and in time it will pay for itself since no more batteries!

you might have already seen this, but if you are annoyed by the 3 modes, you can colour in the capacitor in the circuit with a graphite pencil. the graphite drains the capacitor more quickly, so you can press quickly to change modes(depending on amount of graphite), or a little more slowly for just on and off. ... well, if it's there...
I recently just modded a small motion light that uses 4 AAA's to use 1 or more 18650's with the help of a step up module to 6.3v. I tried 2 18650's in series but the LED's got a bit hot for my liking at that voltage thus why I went with the step up module.
Those pads could be test points. I imagine they make the LED panels first then test them, only bother to put working LED panels into the pick-and-place machines.
What about using with some super capacitors? With the low quiescent current they should hold a charge for long time. Might also use a hand crank generator to charge them up. You could 3D print the case and then build the project.
The capacitor across the led's would reduce or remove flicker (i added a big cap across the output of a smps for my lights mainly for when i make videos) However, this would be ok for the high and low fixed settings (possibly on a previous chip, but they probably removed it because the strobe and sos would be affected on this chip.

Hell, I'd have come across the pond from the U.S. to get one from a real PoundLand so consider yourself lucky;-)>
I feel your pain. If £L was open right now, I would be there to buy one. Luckily, there is one next to my work
I'll bet that 300C temperature spec is for soldering. I've seen that in a bunch of datasheets, usually with some time constraint attached to it...
Wow I didnt know about the SOS function
I had a similar LED from Eveready but on a keychain.
Nowhere on the packaging does it state hold for SOS signal.
Nice to know it does if ever needed.
Anything with flashing / SOS mode will always utter shite. Variable levels are PITA too. One button to select on or off. Hack it Clive.
If it wasn't for the heat issue this would be an ideal product to convert to rechargeable using one of those little disposable Li-on packs.
But fitting charging plug would be a problem. And recharging them separately would be just annoying.
I saw these and bought two. Didnt know about the SOS function. The only thing i dont like is the fact you cant aim the light... its fixed. But what i have done was to stick a strip of drought excluder foam tape on the top edge and it no points the light downwards a bit. I also saw the COB Key Ring lights.. and they too have an SOS function.
you might have already seen this, but if you are annoyed by the 3 modes, you can colour in the capacitor in the circuit with a graphite pencil. the graphite drains the capacitor more quickly, so you can press quickly to change modes(depending on amount of graphite), or a little more slowly for just on and off.
... well, if it's there...
Ill have to get one . . Thanks for another great review
Beanie back on? Complete with propellor?
God, that's going back a long way! Weren't you supposed to ride on a "Scwinn" bicycle s well?
@@28YorkshireRose12 Only if it is beany chasing Cecil.😉
I like the three modes.
The strobe mode can be useful but I would rather it be activated by a long press on the button.
The capacitor across the led's would reduce or remove flicker (i added a big cap across the output of a smps for my lights mainly for when i make videos)
However, this would be ok for the high and low fixed settings (possibly on a previous chip, but they probably removed it because the strobe and sos would be affected on this chip.
Hopefully on the Health & Safety instructions on the packet it specifies that you must only use this device on your head and not for any other purpose
It might work like the USB bum hole warmer if user right
@@kitecattestecke2303 That seems like an EU directive that has got lost in translation maybe?
Ha, Haa....... "The Circulation Booster V2 is for use on your lower legs only, and must not be used on any other body part" Hmm???!!! - Any other use may invalidate your warranty?
Looked them up on AliExpress, and "suitable for 3xAAA battery (1.5V) Not suit powerful rechargeable battery"
So you can use weak rechargeable batteries?
I have older dimmers in my house that seem to work fine with LED lights of most types (even some better brands of non-dimmable seem okay). What's the difference in the newer more $$$$$ LED compatible dimmers?
We purchase expensive LEDs, and even more expensive dimmers, to save a few $ on electricity and discard bulbs that we already manufactured and purchased. Especially curious when 7 of the 12 months we can benefit from the heat of Halogen and incandescent, making them technically 100% efficient.
Been using one of these for a fortnight or so really good for money .
The Tsld - 300C figure will be Temperature - soldering won’t it?
That sounds right for soldering.
So we got a time traveller here as well....
Video is uploaded 59min ago and your comment is 1 week old...??
Illuminati confirmed
@@piyushnagawat24 patreons have early access, not time travelers 😉
@@bigclivedotcom Slightly off topic but on topic.
When you're talking about measuring the current. The quiescent current.
What? Type of a brand of excetera meter are you using?
Or are using something like a microcurrent? You don't think that Evie varg Dave Jones produces?
Or some other type of low carb measurement accessory for a multimeter?
Protech head here.
3:36 Been there, done that, SO many times! I just chalk it up to the brain cycling too fast to catch the simple things.
Very nice compact unit
Tsld = soldering temperature: 300 C for 5 seconds max.
I don't have this exact light, but after seeing the SOS mode, I went to try it on my gimmick promotion light from a hospital, and yup. Same thing.
Hi Sir, I think Tsld on the datasheet refers to the solder temperature of 300 degrees celsius for 5 seconds.
Nice one for Poundland
I think the 300C for 5 or seconds is the soldering (as distinct from "soddering") notated as "Tsld" It's nuisance that we don't have a "Poundland" store in Australia, I'd love one of these little critters.
looks interesting - got a few protected Lithium cells lying around so may well pick some of these up and make good use
There are a lot of new 3 cell products in Asda now like a pen style torch and a hand magnic torch and one that looks like a normal rocker switch. Please ever one have a look. No i am not being paid by them I just saw them before this item showed up. Thanks Clive
Bought one today.
Good product.
Best headlamp I've ever had, and only a pound.
