    PART I - Teardown. Rebuild.
Goal: To extract from the worn remnants of a rusted heap, a Show Quality Daily Driver - A complete and functional, high-performance motorcycle that has been cleaned and refreshed right down to every last bolt, screw, washer, oring, seal, diaphragm, hose, line, piece, part, component, and whatnot, to the effect that it could potentially be competitive in motorcycle Shows.
This project spanned 437 days and my timecard shows 310.0 hours logged to it.
Clearly, I don't work fast, and recording as well is about twice as slow.
But, at least it's done at half the speed! ahem.
Engine internals were measured and calculated to be in good health, so only exterior maintenance was performed.
Starter, at first, would intermittently not engage. Most of the time it would act like no problem, but occasionally, and without cause, the starter would simply fail. This is why the starter was removed and disassembled, to clean the brush contact area of carbon dust buildup. After the starter rebuild, it has so far performed as expected with 100% success rate(detailed video to release later).
HORNS! They're crazy loud. Super clear tones, super loud, and wow. It's really no kidding. Wiring the horns correctly with the relay is crucial for the sound. Factory harness wiring will basically never feed a horn with enough Power to make it Really WORK - So make sure to get the wiring kit.
    www.MOTOHORN.com
Detailed horn install video to release later. Bonus! Includes install of the wireless phone charger/holder with a second relay to automatically power the charger only when the bike is switched on.

All number images reflect the torque value setting in pounds-force feet(foot pounds) used for the click of the wrench on the fastener when the image appears.
All the silly graphics were created using Microsoft Co-Pilot(DALL-E 3) using questionably sourced descriptive inputs, then modified in rudimentary ways(as if that wasn't obvious).
Thank you for laughing at them!

Great work! I’ve got my V65 running and riding great, now I just need to start cleaning and polishing things up to make it look nice. I hope I can someday make it look as good as yours does! You really did a great job.

Tips for ALL aluminum parts (Air cleaner side covers, radiator side covers, clutch cover, alternator cover, seat grab rail, rear rack, forks, seat peg brackets):
      -320 & 400 grit sandpaper
      -#2 & #0000 steel wool
      -Dawn Dishwashing liquid
      -3-in-1 oil
      -Brillo pads (or SOS)
      -Mother's Mag & Aluminum Polish
      -Elbow grease.
I only have my alternator (stator) cover & left fork to still do, but most of it comes out looking like chrome after a few hours, and being aluminum the finish keeps up nicely with Mother's Polish. Start with the sandpaper to get rid of corrosion and/or pitting. Follow with steel wool & 3-in-1, then Dawn. Then hit it with Brillo pads until it shines. Lastly, a couple rounds of Mother's will make it look like you sent it out to get plated.
My '85 now looks like it spent six years in a garage instead of someone's back yard in Stanford, IL.

@@jonunya3128 That's the same story here, "...had it once, got rid of it, couldn't stop kicking myself until I got it back. Found this one, it's in rough shape but f.it. Let's go all the way."
This is the most smooth, tight and responsive motorcycle I have Ever had the pleasure of riding.

I don’t even want to know what was going thru your head, when you decided to restore one of the worlds ugliest motorcycles.. lol Back in the day I just thought they were weak looking. But now it’s almost 2025 and this thing looks like a beast.!! Well done, sir… well done.
