Maduras were only made for about two years due to the fact they were about maintenance free. Suzuki service departments never saw them again. They resolved that issue in subsequent models.

I remember there being a Madura back then, vaguely, but no details. I went through several Hondas from then, V65 Magna and Sabre, CB900F (have had two), and then went bike free for a long time but got back in on a 98 Suzuki Bandit, 01 FZ1, 2000 ZX12R Ninja. That Ninja was very fast. Got off sport bikes and onto a Harley then ended up getting an 83 Honda CB1100F and a 79 Honda CBX and have those three to this day.
I called to test ride a 700 and they intentionally had a 1200 ready. I told them I can't ride that big thing and they were like sure you can! My test ride lasted over a half hour when I called (they thought I crashed) and said I'll take it! lol

Use too much late engine braking while entering a corner and the reduced ground clearance will have you scraping valuable bits on the ground and later doing the same to clean your shorts later.

I remember Cycle World testing the Madura, they said the Madura rear suspension jacking up and down from driveshaft torque was much more controlled than on the Magna.
The straight line performance difference between a V65 Magna and a 1200 Madura was very small. The Magna had a tendency to lift the front wheel if you were not practiced in launching it hard, where as the Madura could be launched rather aggressively without this worry. For what its worth, the magazines of the time claimed the Madura was the faster bike through the 1/4 mile, if but a couple tenths of a second. The V65 Magna was known for having issues with its cams due to a claimed oiling problem, however i never heard of an engine problem associated with the Madura. The V-Max pretty much made both of these bikes obsolete to anyone that was serious about wanting a performance cruiser.
The burning the back tire bullshit really pissed me off ! I had a Magna and two Sabres. That madora couldn't keep up with any one of them in a Canyon. Just to be fair neither could a huyabusa or a vmax. Both of those bikes would Take Me in a 1/4 mile though😉
My thinking is that the gear ratios may be a bit different. An interesting comparison may be to look at the rpm;s and try to find a gear that matches both.

Thanks for the video. These bikes are from "my time" so to speak,There's a decent GV1200 for sale nearby for $1200 that's calling my name, mostly because it's weird and rare. V65s seem to bring out a phantasmagorical reaction in a lot of people, when really they are about as potent as a Bandit 1200. It was cool seeing the old Madura holding its own. GS850 wheels slip on to help in the looks department and give a nice drop in gearing for harder acceleration.
Nice. I had an '88 V45 Super Magna for a while. Always loved the V65, and in my research I discovered the Madura 1200. Ive never seen a Madura on the road, but have seen some very nice customs on line.
Correction on the V65. 1. It was build in Ohio. Because Harley Davidson complained to the Government in 1982, the US applied a 45% tariff on any bike over 700cc. So, in 83, you stopped seeing 750cc bikes, and started to see 700cc, and Honda opened a plant in Ohio to make anything over 700cc (also, they made car there too). 2. The Pipes on the V86 are not the original. This ones on it now suck.
the pulls on the bike were BS... You backed out of the Magna before the Carburetors all had the bellaphrams pull the main jets into play. Around 7,000 RPM's to 12,000 RPM's is where you feel the real difference between the 2 bikes. Because of gear ratio differences between the 2 bikes, the rolling test is flawed. Pick a speed and let the driver pick a gear and roll.....
Well, that Madura's engine is a lot more sorted and clean looking with their orientation of the cylinders. The Magna, you look at it and your not sure what you're looking at. Is that an industrial compressor motor stuck inside of a motorcycle frame? Wtf? I mean I literally, recently look at an ad for a used Magna and had a hard time figuring what the freakin motor was, especially when the seller called it a Nighthawk, HIP...
@@will7its yeah, but the bike, in general, it looks like it has a high CG. The front end is gigantic. I imagine the rake and trail is more than normal from the looks of it. But, all In all the oddness of it, is more of the standard feature of 90 ° engine. It is hard to fit it, similar to the Ducati " L 90s" and V4 two stroke GP bikes, they all look clumsy.
You also didn't see that tires were old junk and needed replacement. Burnout is the best way to end the shitty tire and we did it having tonnes of fun.
The oil mod was needed only for the 83-85. The last year, 86, Honda changed how the heads were oiled. You could still added the mod, but not needed (I do have it on my 84 & 86).
Everybody is keen to say it but it's not true. They pull about the same. In some cases like high gear/low rpm pulls Madura does even a tiny bit better.
I own both of these bikes (not these specific ones, but an 84 V65 and an 85 Madura 1200) and I assure you it will not. The Madura is not to be trifled with. They're very different machines, but the Madura will absolutely give the Magna a run for its money, and flat-out outrun it from a dig.
@@akio2589i still own both, the magna is quicker period end of story, it isnt a brutal blow it away quicker like some think the madura keeps up with it well except at high rpm where the magna makes a bit more power. I have had these both dynoed and the honda was 104 bhp the suzuki was 99 bhp. The suzuki is stronger down low until just past 5500 rpm the honda takes over from there and stays ahead until redline. The madura makes slightly more torque
@andreawhalen4142 My point wasn't about which one was quicker, my point was that the Magna will not run circles around the Madura. They're fairly evenly matched. And my specific Madura is faster than my Magna. But, the Madura has been jetted and the exhaust opened up. It makes around 108 at the wheel, where my Magna is at 102.
The quarter mile times for them are close but noone including pee wee gleason could get the madura into the tens, the magna was famous for being the first under 11 sec quarter mile. I have also owned an 84 interceptor 1000. The difference always showed up on top the suzuki will fall behind as redline nears. The madura is indeed a nice bike though, cruising around on either the magna or madura is great mostly because they are very torquey bikes, you can pick your spot in traffic very nicely on either. Suzuki always stopped making their good reliable bikes, maduras are actually very reliable bikes.
@@Adikxx Old tires not a problem as I would change mine when they get too old regardless of tread depth. More the engine, clutch, and drivetrain is getting prematurely aged if one does this too frequently. In my opinion.
@@gphilipc2031 I appreciate and respect your opinion but.. one minute at 6-7k rpm won't even cause the rad fan to kick in. You'd do more damage to drivetrain and clutch by launching hard from traffic lights when racing. Bull crap , no comparison on the performance, I’ve owned both , magna destroyed the Suzuki, next time do a real test , again I’ve owned both , i kept the magna !!!
Performance comparison you described would be very strange.. Unless you'd be interested in assessing smoothness of idle or something like that💁♂️ In this video we took those bike from standstill to red line from 1st to 3rd gear on two seperate runs. Then we took them to open road and did another 5 runs to see how they go from given speeds to assess flexibility of those motors from low rpm through to midrange(about 3k rpm to 6k- 7k rpm) In other words we covered both all types of acceleration thus the conclusions we get from your comments are: A) you didn't watch the video in full.. or B)you're sad penis(gotta keep the language civilised) who had a bad day and wants to talk shit for no reason.
1. I replaced the OEM Magna pipes as they rotted to scrap and bike failed MOT(or to be precise - it's equivalent) It meant that it could not be legally ridden on the road. New OEM pipes from Honda were discontued so my only option was MAC system which was new and at affordable price. Hopefully this satisfies your curiosity. 2.Magna sounds shit on ANY exhaust,(stock or aftermarket)as it's just a shitty sounding engine overall. Any complaints to be directed to Honda, they built the bike not me. 3. When it comes to Madura and it's sound i'll unveil to you that until now i only heard positive comments about it. You're the 1st person to say that is sounds bad. This means that you're in tiny minority so you're voice sadly becomes meaningless.

Was that side cover with the glass standard on a V65? Pretty cool to see the clutch basket.
@@Addison0526 custom made
I owned a Madura and several v65’s they are way to close to call
I own a madura 1200..it's awesome...I also own a Stratoliner and love it as well.
Brilliant bikes. Thanks for watching !
Have an 86 V65 which I took out for a spin yesterday.
Nice. I had an '88 V45 Super Magna for a while. Always loved the V65, and in my research I discovered the Madura 1200. Ive never seen a Madura on the road, but have seen some very nice customs on line.
My Buddy had one, cool bike, I had a 85 Nighthawk S, Performance in town was simular but out on the hwy he would get me.......
Brilliant video thank u 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
This ones on it now suck.
cool comparison of rare motorcycles
Yes, this Magna doesn't have a stock exhaust.
the pulls on the bike were BS...

The low front bank of cylinders helps with low center of gravity.
@@raynic1173 Look at the Honda Sabre, same years.
@@will7its it's the same engine in a way more sensible bike design...ihmo.
@@raynic1173 Yep, dirt cheap in north east US, low miles too.
Where did you get the clear clutch cover for the magna? This will fit right on my super manga
There is a guy in the UK who makes custom covers, i send mine to him for conversion.
Do you have any contact or web site for him, I have Magna V65 and that transparent clutch cover looks great.@@Adikxx
Didn't see the point of wasting good tires by burn ups.Serously childish
You also didn't see that tires were old junk and needed replacement. Burnout is the best way to end the shitty tire and we did it having tonnes of fun.
@@Adikxx ok cool makes sense now
Full face helmet, gloves, leather jacket but wearing shorts. Ok. LOL!
The 1100 magna need the oil modification kit it is a factory defect
The oil mod was needed only for the 83-85. The last year, 86, Honda changed how the heads were oiled.
You could still added the mod, but not needed (I do have it on my 84 & 86).
I disagree on brakes as my engine dose most of my madura braking I rarely touch my brakes
The magna will run circles around the suzuki
To ta sama magna ? Sprzed kilku lat?
Tak. 10 lat pod nasza opieka.
tbh you didnt gave the magna a fair roll race
And you test ride in ‘shorts’ ? Madness
Never heard about the Madura😮
I know my V65magna will outrun alot of old Skool bikes
why do those stupid burnouts?
Shitty video i know. Apologies for filming those shitty bikes and wasting your time.
I liked the video
@@stevemaslow703 I'm fairly sure there was some sarcasm there. Rightfully so.
Awesome
Seid ihr noch Kinder? Mit solchen Maschinen macht man soetwas, wie Reifen abbrennen nicht, das kannst mit ner "HD" machen
The burnouts are a waste!
Huge fun
Madura eats tires in burn outs.
Burn outs with brakes on is cheating,I’m not even gonna mention how I feel bout blocking the front wheels,so lame.
Tire burning kinda make me feel like, MAN!, why do you want to F up a perfectly good bike.
Burning the rubber does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING bad to those bikes..
Those tires were old , that's how you end the tire which is destined for the bin.
Once the traction of that tire is broken it slides on the tarmac like on butter(especially with old hardened tire).
@@Adikxx It's more about how frequently one thrashes a bike. I've done it myself but not a lot. So, The bike will be a good one to buy on the used market some day.
Since I am a used bike buyer, it matters to me.
But, Peace bro, Biking MUST be fun first.
Bull crap , no comparison on the performance, I’ve owned both , magna destroyed the Suzuki, next time do a real test , again I’ve owned both , i kept the magna !!!
I still own both and that was 100% real.
How can i make it unreal?
Your comment is ridiculous..
I own both currently. I can assure that what they showed is consistent with how they perform.
Good job
Madura sounds better by A MILE
Performance comparison criteria: most tire smoke and quickest from 700 to 1200 rpm. Never exceed 1400 rpm. Brilliant.
Performance comparison you described would be very strange.. Unless you'd be interested in assessing smoothness of idle or something like that💁♂️
In this video we took those bike from standstill to red line from 1st to 3rd gear on two seperate runs. Then we took them to open road and did another 5 runs to see how they go from given speeds to assess flexibility of those motors from low rpm through to midrange(about 3k rpm to 6k- 7k rpm)
In other words we covered both all types of acceleration thus the conclusions we get from your comments are:
A) you didn't watch the video in full..
or
B)you're sad penis(gotta keep the language civilised) who had a bad day and wants to talk shit for no reason.
@@Adikxx I watched it in full. But I also have a sad penis.
😂what do you gainby making the bike smoke
Climate change
Riding in shorts is not safe😢
Yep, it's not at all.
Lost any respect for this comparison as soon as you started measuring performance by burning the curb.
That's just bullshit.
@@specter4426 thank you for watching our video.
It's appreciated.
Both bikes sound like shit and why would you ever take off the OEM pipes on the Magna and replace with those POS!?!?!?
1. I replaced the OEM Magna pipes as they rotted to scrap and bike failed MOT(or to be precise - it's equivalent)
It meant that it could not be legally ridden on the road.
This means that you're in tiny minority so you're voice sadly becomes meaningless.
buy some boots...
Riding in shorts... this is not very intelligent....
STUPID -TEST- COMPARISON DOESN'T PROVE ANYTHING EXCEPT UNSKILLED RIDERS !!!
If there is anything stupid here it would be your comment and that's for couple of reasons:
1- this video IS NOT A TEST ! It's an entertainment content..
2-This video was not film to prove anything..
WTF is is there to prove? That bikes still run after 40 years? or what? What a ridiculous thing to say..
3-Riders have more skill than you lame ass..
Thank you for watching and commenting, by doing that you feed the UA-cam algorithm and keep the video alive.
Childish burnouts

So you realised how dumb it was ha? Lol
Now however you've come out even dumber, you really thought anyone in the right frame of mind would be doing wheelies on 40 year old shaft drive cruisers? That would make the video to "PROVE" something right? 🤣
OMG you literally are thick as shit..
@@Adikxx Yes, I scratched off test to make you feel better but doesn't take away the stupid things ROOKIES do with bikes.
A couple of fools destroying classic bikes just to get youtube validation.. When they get old they will tell everyone that listens to them how great the bikes were. Sad really.
I feel i must respond to this nasty comment.
1st - where in this video you saw destruction of those bikes? Are you on mushrooms?
2nd - we didn't have to get old to tell people that bikes are great. We already say that to everyone whenever we can.
3rd - video wasn't made to get "UA-cam validation" but to provide some info about bikes which have ZERO COVER on UA-cam.
4th - if somebody is sad here that would be you as you presented a classic keyboard warrior comment. You would never say this to my face you lame turd.
