Colombian President Gustavo Petro on Venezuela, Cuba & How U.S. Sanctions Are Driving Migration
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 жов 2024
- In Part 3 of our interview with leftist Colombian President Gustavo Petro, he describes how hard-line U.S. policies are preventing the Americas from addressing issues like migration, calling on the Biden administration to "open up a plural dialogue" to bring the region closer together. He notes many people moving through Latin America to seek asylum in the United States are from Venezuela, a country that has been devastated by U.S. sanctions. He calls for an end to punitive economic sanctions against both Venezuela and Cuba, both to slow migration and to address historic injustice. "The scars of history - the invasions from before, the old imperialism, the old domination - continue to weigh against humanity."

"The Cleverest President/Prime Minister I Have Ever Heard Speak!!!"💯💯💯.
Early days.
He's clever alright. I fact much more clever than honest. He's well aware the economic crisis in Venezuela predate the sanctions but portends it's otherwise because it promotes his narrative.
Fidel Castro was brilliant, I used to love to read his columns Reflections of Fidel.
The US interference in Central and South America is a large part of the immigration problems on the southern border of the USA. US policy ends up creating the problem of illegal immigration. This has been true for decades. President Petro is a breath of fresh air.
It's funny cause the US ends up blaming it on Mexico
Really? You are invited to visit and why not to stay in Colombia
I completely agree with you.
Explain how it works, that; I’m responsible for what the people from country (X) allow their leadership to do to them?
I’ve been saying this and commenting on this on all the immigration news on UA-cam and people in the comments section are so mistaken on the reasons for this mass migration. This is a great interview!
Good interview, this man is clear and spot on, and we need to take heed! Hope
I wish Gustavo was President of a United South America.
Unfortunately he cannot be the president of US because the multi corporate companies will never allow because of their vested interest.
@@dahirdubow8636 first of all hes not American and is too low iq to even learn English. 2nd, im Colombian American and im getting ALOT of bad reviews for Petro. IDK what thats about, but Colombians have been rioting alot under him, an in Copa America they were chanting "FUERA PETRO" Socialism NEVER WORKS, ESPECIALLY in Latin America.
What a concept! People for the people, not people for profit… I like the way president Gustavo Petro thinks and leads! He was being polite, and he’s spot on!
The world needs him to be president here (and now!).
Spot on with all points, Biden get your ass moving.
I wish LatAm people would understand that the US is not a 'promised land'.
It isn’t, it’s never been. But US propaganda like movies, tv shows, etc have spread that whole lie like its true, the whole “American Dream”.
Many people from Latin America who do end up in the US will face many challenges and a high probability of them will end up in poverty or criminal activity.
We need to improve the conditions in Latin America so people have more opportunities and stay here to make the countries better, but at the same time the US needs to stop using us as their backyard and imposing sanctions on governments they disagree with.
it has been shown time and again that America often breaks its promises to other lands, especially if that land is populated with brown skinned peoples. just look at the promises made to people in Afghanistan who were of help to United States cohorts (in all of their guises) stationed there. their efforts and loyalties were re-payed by abandonment in many cases
They are not interested in understanding it, they simply do not want to accept it (the US is not the promised land)... the US opened the doors to them and they already blocked it with their foot....
let them come and check for themselves... it's their right.
@@htopherollem649the U.S. broke promises with it's own Native nations and the Black American community, if it does it to it's own then it should be NO surprise that it does it to others
Thank you 💛 Sir and thank you Amy 😊
Thank you Amy, Juan Gonzalez and DN por this interview.
President Petro is one the most knowledgeable and humanistic politicians in Latinoamérica.
100%
I admire and respect this man! Excellent interview! 👏
All points on sanctions, immigration and cooperation on energy transition were spot on.
Are you free and fair news outlet. Then tell us about the inglorious France and Niger. Now they say Nigwr is holding their ambassador hostage.
Can I also watch this interview in Spanish?
It kind of gives me hope that there's a leader of any nation out of there, who is so thoughtful, intelligent and informed. This man makes our presidents here in the United States (with the exception of Obama perhaps, I'm not a fan of Obama but I think he was the most intelligent and refined president we had in recent history), look like a bunch of dullards in comparison!
I agree with Gustavo.
If any progress depends on a colonialist country or a slaver country to be something different we can forget that. We are doomed !!!
Awesome informative interview. Love Democracy Now!!
What a great interview. Thank you 🙏
Wise words Gustavo!
thank you for sharing these insightful voices Democracy Now!
President Petro should have a broader platform -- The current administration is so fixated on dominating Europe's energy supplies, that it has little use for competition. Venezuela's oil was plentiful for the U.S. and certainly Venezuela has good supply -- it does need upgrades as the ports have suffered from the blockades. The U.S. should stop dumping funds in Ukraine and support our neighbors in the Americas -- we arre the new world and the lands of self determination
The problem with venezuelan oil is, it is super thick and cost alot more to refine and once oil prices go down it wont be profitable to import for many countries.
Plants love CO2. Let's plant more trees
Calobia president gustavo petro may you live long
The world going down
I was expecting to hear about what Petro plans to do to improve the economy and international relations in Columbia!
Colombia please...
Not the brand called Columbia.
@@EyFmS so sorry with the spelling mistake!
@@六十前後 Its ok, no need to apologize 😉.
CULUMBIA doesn’t exist.
So, we don’t know what are you talking about.
@@holaforistas Please do not be rude, she excused herself for the mistake.
Forget lifting the embargo take out Maduro , and send back their people back , all these military aged men leaving instead of fighting for their country . I enjoyed hearing the president of Colombia speak clearly on this issue .

Ultraderecha, FUERA!!!
We don’t care about their safety we just want to stop it
stop what?
It's time for Robert Kennedy, Jr. to emerge!
what a jerk... as if the trouble of Venezuela were not caused by its own narco regime
❤
The best president ever ❤
Pray for our world
if USA stay out of south American and Central won't be so much people running to USA.we have seen everywhere that the USA set feet there is war chaos and problem.just stay in USA and fix your Barrios and skid rows that goes from east to west north to south in your country.please leave us alone
Cuba needs to let the people have open multiparty elections and free political prisoners, and free the population from that horrific totalitarian dictatorship! And the only blockade is the Castro regime!!!!!
this channel is so amazing for its ability to call truth. as much as I support Ukraine in its independance I also support Venezuela and Cuba to be given freedom.. the USA needs to lift the sanctions - there is no real justification
💯💯💯👑🎯🎯🎯
BS. This guy has less people to deal with and would rather have his safety valve to relieve the stress of another failed society.
Bruh we took in almost 8 million venezuelana -___- and the country only had 45 mil to begging with wtf are you talking about
Nonsense to read these headlines Amy...think somewhat before...After Brazil, Argentina is the largest country in South America, in Latin America Mexico must be larger even than Colombia. Even Peru is larger. So Colombia is not the second largest country out there. N'importe quoi.
FYI :
Most populous countries of South America
With over 200 million people, Brazil makes up almost half the population of South America. Brazil is followed by Colombia with 50 million people, Argentina with 44 million people, and Peru and Venezuela both with 31 million people.

What? Explain fake news? Even the attorney nation cannot find even fabricate proofs
Thanks Jane Fonda.
OUR NATION NEEDS A NEW VISION AND A LEADERSHIP THAT IS NOT THIS IDIOTIC. 99% OF ALL OF OUR PROBLEMS AT HOME AND ABROAD ARE ALL SELF INFLICTED. HAVING COMPASSION AND KINDNESS TO ALL IS NOT WEAKNESS. ITS WIDOM. WE NEED TO JOIN CHINA STAAT BUILDING INFRASTRUCTURE SCHOOLS, HOSPITALS, MANUFACTURING, CREATING JOBS AND LIFTING PEOPLE OUT OF POVERTY. WE NEED TO FOCUS ON WIN WIN TRADE AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT. LET'S MAKE MONEY THE RIGHT WAY. ELON MUSK NEEDS TO RUN FOR PRESIDENT. AT LEAST HE HAS A BRAIN.
COLOMBIA IS FALLING APART AND THIS GUY IS DOING ANYTHING. Crime, drugs, poverty. OmG! We need this man out of the power.
Totally agree !
He doesn't speak English lol
If sanctions are causing migration we need more immigration judges on the border immediately as these people are economic refugees not asylum qualified by self admission.
Son. South America has a version of migration rights similar to EU. The people migrating to Colombia are allowed to come. And Colombian immigration is working very hard to get them resident permits and work IDs. It's THOUSANDS of people each day at immigration offices. They actually added a dedicated people to do that.
