- Overwatch 2 is doing some little things for Pride this year, which I thought was really nice so I made a quick video going through everything!
00:00 - Introduction
00:07 - Was this a distraction?
00:37 - Cop cars gone
00:48 - New icons!
01:01 - New name cards!
01:29 - Tracer and Emily
01:45 - Pharah and Baptiste's short story!
02:08 - Overall thoughts
Overwatch is a free to play game by Activision Blizzard. Season 5 is soon approaching, bringing a new battle pass, mythic skin and gamemode called Questwatch. There's a new support hero called Lifeweaver and many new cosmetics for players to unlock

Another big thing to note is that these Pride cosmetics are not event exclusive - they're evergreen cosmetics, meaning EVERY account gets these added to them by default, even those created years from now!
Rip to all the homophobic people who weren't going to play in June to avoid getting these things
not every account sadly...

@@Engelion In some regions of the world, being LGBT or displaying support for LGBT rights is a crime, in some cases punishable by death (like in Afghanistan). So to comply with local laws, the Pride cosmetics aren't available to players in those countries.
@@Engelion some countries blocked from this event cause of anti LGBT+ laws. I live in one of them. Feels so sad to not be a part of this...
i think the main issue most people have is how corporate pride events feel. They aren't made by real people with real intentions but faceless corporations with controversial histories. A pride event from Blizzard of all companies feels very insincere no matter how they handle it because of their history. I like the idea of pride events in games but they usually end up very half-assed as a very vocal part of the most playerbase's is often against the idea.
Yeah the event is not even available where I live. NY map is unchanged and I got no pride cosmetics at all. They said in the announcement that they especially want people who can't attend pride to feel included but I sure as fuck don't
It sucks that nobody's talking about it but tbh LGBT people in the not so lucky parts of the world are used to feeling ignored by westerners it's like we don't exist
@@medmax6978 That's very true but Blizzard made decision to not do this in countries with laws against LGBTQ, sucks ik, I guess money comes first for the decision maker there. Also it's not just "western" countries that are usually considered "western" like Poland and Hungary, are also excluded.
Yeah but I have seen a lot of the Artists behind this content and the comic, they seem like geniuenly good and friendly people, Blizzard is a big company and sadly often people like to pretend companies are hiveminds. I'm not trying to defend them, just saying that things arent always related or simple.
While I understand this, it's important to remember that there are real game developers, which is a massively LGBTQIA+ industry, behind these decisions. There was love and care put into this diversity from within our community, even if the company to deliver it to us doesn't give a crap
If presents of a cop car hurts your feelings, I worry for you.🥴
as if you actually care either way
its not like that i dont think, i think it was mainly to just make the map more cheery rather than average city cop cars and stuff, tbh i didnt even notice till i saw the video
And I’d worry for the people around you
@@0xiconicsoul52 I’m not black or they/them. Nothing to worry about.
@@Max44611holy shit the 14 year old edgelord is homophobic AND RACIST, next he’s gonna want only blond and blue eyed people to exist.
I love how most ppl casually forgot soldier and tracer have been confirmed gay almost since launch too. I love all the new icons and banners
Soldier hasn't since launch, only Tracer.
Damn I forgot about soldier 😂
ive been slept in front of enough soldiers to experience it first hand
To be fair, the amount of in-game references to these for those particular characters is really limited. Tracer has had only two lines and one Spray which reference her girlfriend, ever, and none of them hard confirm her sexuality. Soldier is even worse as he has none of those. It's entriely out-of-game media which reference their sexuality.
Wait soldier is gay I just knew 😂
I loved the moment where u stole nano and there was a moment of indecision between continuing as normal or transforming into a harmacist
Honestly surprised they're not charging actual money for pride cosmetics
blizzard tacitly saying "no cops at pride", however unintentionally, is very funny to me. that aside, i was super stoked to learn more about baptiste + pharah. it feels pretty cool that one of my favorite characters to play is now confirmed bisexual!
how exactly does it feel cool? are you implying characters are less fun simply due to their sexuality?
@@ramones1314 It feels cool when you can personally relate to a character. You're seeing implications where there are none, aka projecting.
Same on the "no cops" thing XD
@@literallyjeff relate to something that doesnt have any effect on anything in the game? thats really strange lol

The removal of the police cars is a really nice touch. No cops at pride!!!
youre insane. yes please cops at pride. arrest degenerates walking around naked and people publically intoxicated
Aren't cops at pride good because they keep the parade safe from aggressive homophobes?
I'd take my Police Brig skin out to focus flag players, but I'd have to log in (and thus get the flags) to do so, so that'll have to wait.
@@RusticRito That argument should hold true all year round but doesn't, hence the phrase. It is just a meme though, all parades should have police presence for public safety.

Lmao, this pride event doesn't exist in my country. They are only gays based on the geography🤣

Thank you
Wish they didn’t block it in certain countries. They say they did it to protect the players, but I think we all know they did it, so that they can make the most money.
You didn't even mention that in some european countires you literally can't access the pride event. For example in Hungary where I live I dont have any of these profile icons, name cards, midtown.
lucky you.

I am completely straight but want to use the banners, they just look so good. But I won’t because if I do people will think I’m gay and I don’t want that cause I’m not.
You completely can, and if someone asks you, just tell them you’re an ally, not harm in it

I feel like people are gonna fall for the distraction. I know they planned this ahead of time but the timing is a bit coincidental.
Sucks, let people, it might be an distraction, it might not, just let them enjoy their pride and representation
@@famished_b0nny pride used to be considered a sin. Remember that?
@@10pmmemes88 right, your manmade book said something very subtle about it right?
@@famished_b0nny yea I’m gay and I like the representation, and I’m not trying to take that away from anyone but they’ve never done anything like this before. And they could have. The game has been out for years. And in OW1 they gave us a rainbow icon and refused to call it pride….so it just doesn’t sit right with me, personally.
those name cards are pretty cool, too bad i'm not any of those
idk why it’s not there for me
I'm happy it's here, irked it took them years, and think the timing of the pve announcement next to pride was intentional. Banners are good, and I'll use them, but I wish they didn't have the center design stripe disturbing the flag colors.
Edit: Now I'm in game and I see that pride icons are in a section by themselves, literally last in the list. I get no notification of pride event, no newsfeed item about it, no new graphics at start. If content creators hadn't told me I'd literally have not known it was even happening. This feels absolutely bare minimum.
2nd Edit: I see the modified map is buried in arcade without a label, not in the main game. Which I guess means they're less proud of it than morning and evening versions of maps. This feels less than minimum, insulting even, and this feels very intentional by corporate.
I have a question. Am I the only one who when they play the map, they can see the flags?
I live in Romania... Maybe that's why?
how do u get the icons and name cards? i dont have them
what country are you in. Blizard made it so it's not all countries that have them, because they don't want to lose money from the more homophobic countries
I was actually pretty happy when a pride event was announced! I'm sad there's no skins but there's always next year! 🤷♀️
why would there be skins....? -_-
You expect overwatch to release actual content?
Can't wait for a shitty recoloring of default skins for 20$ lol
i'm not gonna lie i'm pretty happy they didn't add skins they would of looked ugly probably. maybe they would've made us pay for it or work for it. u can always use the hangzhou spark as a trans flag i guess./j
OW Became too woke
Is anyone getting there’s in the UK?
they made it so people can shoot the flags, nice move blizzard
im bi but honestly im getting sick of the gay-baiting from big game studios and pride in general. i think that 'feeling represented' by a character based on sexuality is quite shallow and negates actual character development they might have. I was a big fan of apex legends but they leaned on a lesbian love triangle as their 'lore' for over a year and offered 0 development for those female character who had a lot to offer in terms of story telling
Ah, I uninstalled the game few days ago, but.. Good for them.
Same here
For the real reason why the Rainbow icon is called Rainbow and not Pride or Rainbow Pride is because Overwatch back then was a all universal game, and in some countrys, celebration of Pride in any way shape or form is deems illegal so if Overwatch were to say "Rainbow Pride" Those countrys would no longer have Overwatch in there country, making them miss out on money. But this does have a good ending, Blizzard have cut ties with those countrys, which yes they miss out on a lot of money but at least there making a lot of people happy
Rainbows makes you happy? How cute
i’m so happy for the flags. thanks to these i can connect to other people from the same community, for example today i met another mlm and we joked around a lot and in the end of the game we wished each other happy pride. if someone is disrespectful towards me in team chat, i can mute them. if someone from the enemy team is disrespectful i can focus them and make them mad :)
lol, don't we love focusing bigoted cishet people?
Much love and happy pride ❤
@@sambauer7138 don’t we love calling people who don’t agree with our opinions bigots and other derogatory names😭
@@Infinite25O search up the word bigot, you won't so I'll writr it down for you, "a person who is obstinately or unreasonably attached to a belief, opinion, or faction, especially one who is prejudiced against or antagonistic toward a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular group", and it's not the fact of opposing ideas, it's the fact that people constantly are aggressive to the community, so yes, they're bigots.
@@Infinite25O besides, "derogatory" isn't even close to them calling other people slurs in vc and the reporting system not doing shit. so yes, if they stop calling people slurs and attacking the lgbtq community, I'll gladly stop calling them bigots
The fact that a game needs to incorporate flags for someone's sexual preference is beyond me...
New overwatch pride event omg so sla-ACK

pretty sure they were able to do this now cause their china contract ended or something like that
I really like that they finally did stuff for pride. It seemed so weird that they didnt before
why did it seem weird? why does the world have to know your gay?
@Escanor the LionSin of Pride why not? If someone wants to express that aspect of themselves, good for them.
@@Leoj4500 What if I told you I’m a Christian and I am against it but its just an aspect of myself I would like to share with the world would that be ok too? Or does it only work one way?
@@Sonnycapo Being against something else is intricitly not "an aspect of yourself". "I'm a christian and it's an aspect of myself" is totally okay. "I don't want you to be yourself and that's an aspect of myself" is not. Really not that hard to grasp. And that does go both ways, since gay people aren't anti-freedom of religion.
@@michaelscott3174 Its one thing to be gay. Its another thing to push it and advertise it to children. That's what I am against. To think society would be better if more people were gay/trans is actually crazy and anyone who cant see that is brainwashed and isn't going to see reason. So to say oh its weird they haven't promoted it in a video game before is ridiculous and doesn't need to be in a video game. I am straight but I don't care to let everyone know I am what does that have to do with enjoying a video game? Idc if my teammates are gay but its the agenda that the media and game industry is promoting is where I think its wrong. If someone is truly born gay then why would it need to be promoted? Its obviously they're trying to groom children into becoming gay/trans.

no, PRIDE month is for LGBTQ+ while straight people have 11 months to celebrate
Although I am aware rainbow capitalism is annoying and Blizzard (as a corporation) aren’t necessarily doing this out of the kindness of their hearts, it’s still nice to see that some effort has gone into this! The name banners especially look really cool, and I’ll always take companies pandering to the LGBT+ community for money over them not even pretending to care.
As for any bigots who have their widdle feewings hurt because queer people exist and are acknowledged, get bent. Cry about rainbows some more or something.

Yeah.
You say that this was approved long ago, but you also fail to remember that they knew about the PvE cancelation a year and a half ago. It doesn't take much to program the announcement of said cancelation to happen days before this event.
Disagree. I belive they chose this time to announce the cancellation because it's far enough from the Galatic whatever event (that was mainly to sell skins) and from the next season (when they want to sell BPs) that they hope the backlash won't interfere with their gains. Also, the pride event isn't selling anything significant, as far as I know, so it's one more reason to not care about one being closely followed by the other

Well, here's what I'm thinking, So, for instance, I'm only believe in two genders, and there isnt a flag for it, I'm not pushing my belief onto anyone else, im not teaching young children who aren't old enough to make their own decisions, and theres not a WHOLE month dedicated to my belief. Also someone doesnt agree with me, I'm not rude and just agree to disagree.
So then y do I HAVE to accept them? Y teach young kids, like kindergarteners and stuff. Just have the idea be known in like middle school and have extra classes if they want to. WHY basicly force it onto them, and impute it into the basic classes? cant we just agree to disagree and keep religion and beliefs OUT of school? or like just have extra classes for the kids who agree with different things?
Most of my friends dont like going to school because they feel like they HAVE to believe and support what other people believe and that they cant jist mind their own business. Once again plz im not trying to be rude or mean or anything i just dont understand y we have to accept u beliefs but u dont have to accept ours.
its important to teach it to children so it isnt seen as weird or unnatural, and we can't respect ur beliefs if u don't respect ours
