The Blue Division was the Spanish volunteer unit of the German Army.
Like the Russians they would seldom take prisoners. This gave rise for Munoz-Grandes to call them his “ Bridegrooms of Death “ and even their battle cry was “ Viva la Muerte “ or “ Long Live Death “.

@@Daeneas. "always" ?
I like how the Spaniards were given the obligatory 5 o'clock shadows versus the Germans being perfectly clean shaven. My wife's grandmother was from Spain and my son had to start shaving at 14 and now at 22 can grow as good as or even better of a beard than I can so it's pretty accurate.
meanwhile, I probably can't even have a beard, i only have a thin sort of "moustache", due to being of mixed Amerindian and European ancestry.
@@maximilianolimamoreira5002 bro, dont despair. Shaving sucks. Thankfully I am at end of my career and dont care about the grooming standards and rock a full beard only shaving my neck once a week. Having shaved better part of 33 years, I can tell you that you are blessed in this regards. Unfortunately you may be carded for rated R movies forever.

Love to see a video about them
Hey, that's a refence to a brazilian moto, isn't it?
"We will fight in ww2 when the snakes start smoking"

There's a Sabaton song about them btw (just look up 'Sabaton smoking snakes')
Fun fact: Spanish republicans in exile were present in the liberation of Paris

@@petitponeydu7727 The 9th Company of the Régiment de marche du Tchad which was nicknamed La Nueve (Spanish for "the nine") consisted of 160 men under French command, 146 of which were Spanish republicans.[15] They were commanded by French Captain Raymond Dronne, who became the second uniformed Allied officer to enter Paris after Amado Granell.[16]

I had no idea that the Spanish fought on the eastern front, what a great gift to Germany as many Germans dreaded being sent to the eastern front.

Great video, happy to see my country in one of your videos. Spanish Blue Division is unknown for many people even in Spain ♥♥♥
I cant wait to see another videos where Spain is the protagonist
The "Bridgegrooms of Death" nickname actually comes from the Spanish Legion, Franco's and Milan-Astray's men that fought in the Rif and crossed the stretch of Gilbraltar when the Civil War began. It's still used by the Legion today.
"If, on the front you see an ill-shaven, dirty soldier with broken boots and an undone shirt, then salute him, for he is a Spaniard, a hero."
"If you see a German soldier who is unshaven, in an unbuttoned tunic, and drunk, do not rush to arrest him, most likely this is a Spanish hero" is the actual quote. Far from the romantic way many spanish like to describe themselves while citing the war.

Thanks for making a reference to the Portuguese volunteers who also fought with them. Great video as always!

Amazing information, really didn't know this. Spanish soldiers in the front lines of Stalingrad is something I wouldn't have expected.

Some of those fighting scenes are very well drawn, there has definitely been alot of improvement in illustrating the action. Job well done to @Simple History.
