People don't give Buster Douglas the credit he deserves. How he finished the fight was super impressive. Tyson's original team were his family, they were part of his strength. An Olympic track and field coach once told me, 'if it works don't fix it'. Tyson in his prime was the best heavyweight of all time.

Buster Douglas was not seen as a huge deal before, partly because he lost to Tony Tucker. The thing is that Tucker was also the champion that gave prime Mike the most trouble, more than Spinks, Bruno, Holmes or Berbick, going the distance and putting up a good fight. Even pre-prime Buster Douglas signature loss was against a very underrated opponent that had just been unfortunate to meet Mike at his absolute best as his first title challenger.

Excuses excuses excuses for Mike always. He's not the only boxer who has had tragedy in his life and career. Many boxers have reinvented themselves and have come back stronger becaue they had will power to do it and Mike did not. He knew that Rooney was the best guy to have in his corner but he decided to go at it alone. He was tired of dealing with the rigorous training that Rooney put him through. But it had worked for his advantage. It's the example of a person with a huge Ego amd lack of will power. And most of you fan boys can't get over that. Mike was going to lose sooner or later. There's probably some truth to the excuses i don't believe he saw Douglas as a serious threat and probably cut corners in training camp.. But years later he was able to take out guys like lou saversse and andrew golota with ease, while barely training and heavily addicted to cocain and booze.. so Douglas clearly had a difficult style to beat Mike when mike was young and physically primed, even if he wasn't 100% on the ball. Tyson’s team knew that Tyson hadn’t fought in almost 9 months the night before the fight: and Tyson’s last fight had him KO Carl Williams in the 1st round.

Douglas doesn't get nearly enough credit for this fight. People talk about how bad Tyson was but never how good Douglas was. He completely out strategised Tyson; his gameplan was pretty much flawless. Would he have beaten a prime Tyson? Perhaps not, but he still gave a terrific performance.

Buster lost his mother, which is worse than anything Tyson went through pre-fight and he used it to fight the fight of his life. As an ex-Tyson fanboy myself, I am sick of the excuses and all of the videos cashing in on Mike Tyson's name and contrarian/conspiratorial thinking. Tyson lost.
