Mike did have propa mentors; it's just that they died too early and the vultures were too hard to resist.
tyson has been a wrong un around women since he was a kid and everybody in boxing knew it
People don't give Buster Douglas the credit he deserves. How he finished the fight was super impressive. Tyson's original team were his family, they were part of his strength. An Olympic track and field coach once told me, 'if it works don't fix it'. Tyson in his prime was the best heavyweight of all time.
No doubt about it,no matter what era of Mike, you gotta have a beast in you to even faze him.Douglass fought fire with fire that night, and Mike’s fire wasn’t as honed as it was before
Tyson was 23 when he was obliterated by Douglas. Casuals think he's the goat.
Yeah too bad he pussied out when Mike asked for a rematch.
They didn't even bring an enswell to the ring!!
The night was Douglas's. As soon as his mother passed away, he wasn't going to lose.
Imagine if Cus had lived another decade and Rooney had stayed as Tyson's head trainer his legacy would be something incredible.
King not only destroyed Tyson but held back the sport of boxing for decades
Blame everyone but Mike? Tyson would have found another way to go mad. He was like a rabid dog that would bite anyway.
Yeah, and imagine if Tyson was 18ft tall, and could shoot lasers from his eye sockets, he’d still be champion now!!

A few months after this fight happened I got buster Douglas autograph. I was like 9 years old so ended up losing it. It wouldn't be worth any money but I'd have like to still have it. This was probably the alltime greatest underdog win. Against all odds he got it done. Legendary stuff
Tyson was at his prime then hr probably didn't give the fight the respect it deserved but still a great win for buster
@@joanofarc708 very well said

Well, Vegas knew they could get people to bet on Tyson, even with a return of five cents on the dollar. The odds often do not reflect the true odds of an athlete or team. This is one of the best examples of that. I can assure you Douglas was not much of an underdog in reality.
1980 USA Olympic hockey team win over the Soviet Union is the biggest upset of all time. A bunch of college kids beat one of the greatest adult hockey teams ever assembled. A team they were crushed by months prior to the olympics. Nobody could beat Russia. Nobody. Until that night......

The fact that he was also dropped hard in a sparring session by former WBA champ, Greg Page in preparation was perhaps the best indicator that Mike Tyson's fight against Buster Douglas was not going to be his night.
Tyson was not dropped hard in sparring with Greg Page, Tyson stumbled and fell over and was back up with 3 seconds.
@@Paul-sl9zm It's been thoroughly documented and it's on video. Video doesn't lie!

@@CraigMcGuinn 🤣🤣🤣 I guess the next thing will be someone saying it was a slip.
As the saying goes " A man who has nothing to lose has everything to gain!".
It doesn’t matter as Don Kings damage was already apparent…he cut all ties to Kevin Rooney (Cus damoto) unique training camp which was perfect for Tyson …Mikes head had gone and he thought he was a one punch fighter when in fact in his prime he was a punches in bunch’s fighter….coupled to that he faced a very capable fighter and had peaked this particular night in Tokyo….blame Don King !!.
You exactly right Don King is to blame for Mike Tyson's downfall mostly that is 100% correct but! When CUS died the future was already written for Mike to have a downfall a few years later because of the people surrounding him and getting rid of Kevin Rooney! Don King is a clown
Tyson carried Kevin Rooney Tyson would've obliterated Douglas 8n the rematch with or without Rooney especially the version of him that fought Ruddock.
Mike's my main man.
But stop making excuses for him.
A guy at Mike's level, at the time, knows what and what not to do when it comes to boxing.
Even a prime Tyson would've struggled against Douglas that night. It's incredible how a fighter could be so great for just one night and then fizz out, I do wonder what could've been if only Douglas had passion for the sport.
Douglas did what Tyson did here and came in unprepared for his defence against Holyfield. Thats boxing.
@@mallafets Exactly right, I'd say Douglas was less prepared than Tyson in their fight though.
I mean look at him in the Holyfield fight he looks like he came straight out of Mcdonalds to fight.

@@infnte9186 people would just say that because of the fight in tokyo
Buster Douglas was not seen as a huge deal before, partly because he lost to Tony Tucker. The thing is that Tucker was also the champion that gave prime Mike the most trouble, more than Spinks, Bruno, Holmes or Berbick, going the distance and putting up a good fight. Even pre-prime Buster Douglas signature loss was against a very underrated opponent that had just been unfortunate to meet Mike at his absolute best as his first title challenger.
Excuses excuses excuses for Mike always. He's not the only boxer who has had tragedy in his life and career. Many boxers have reinvented themselves and have come back stronger becaue they had will power to do it and Mike did not. He knew that Rooney was the best guy to have in his corner but he decided to go at it alone. He was tired of dealing with the rigorous training that Rooney put him through. But it had worked for his advantage. It's the example of a person with a huge Ego amd lack of will power. And most of you fan boys can't get over that. Mike was going to lose sooner or later. The blue print for his downfall began when he faced Quick Tillis. So stop it with the excuses people. When Mike started fighting top competition his invincibility got exposed.
Very good comments 👌. I glad you mentioned the quick Tillis fight . 👏
Espn 30 for 30 has a full episode called “42-1.” Excellent.
I love ❤️ the constant snide digs at Don King your taking out decades of pent up rage and frustrations from every Tyson fanboy ever at how Don King Ruined Tysons career and putting it into 10 concise minutes lol 😂 impressive stuff lmfaooo
Buster Douglas could have beaten anyone in history that night ! His jab was lightning quick and deadly accurate. He was surgically efficient with his punches and used his great defense to set up counters. Buster was a man determined to be the King !!!
Don’t kid yourself. His far inferior competition that night made him look great. Buster was trash.
@@venturawoods1314 Buster ruled that night. How many guys get up from the canvas after a Mike Tyson uppercut ? Buster Douglas did and he rallied himself back to win !!!
I agree. Buster doesn't get the credit he deserves
@@EverybodyUnite Thats right. If you watch that fight from a boxing trainers perspective you will see he was fundamentally solid, he was in the right frame of mind, he was very efficient with all of his movements, offense or defense. He was also in tip top shape.
@@venturawoods1314 Buster was a hell of a boxer. He schooled tony tucker before gassing out, beat oliver mccall, beat trevor berbick and tyson was literally at the height of his career when he lost to douglas.
I think people just really LOVE mike tyson and can't accept the fact he was beaten fairly (in his prime) by another man, so they have to come out with all these excuses. There's probably some truth to the excuses i don't believe he saw Douglas as a serious threat and probably cut corners in training camp.. But years later he was able to take out guys like lou saversse and andrew golota with ease, while barely training and heavily addicted to cocain and booze.. so Douglas clearly had a difficult style to beat Mike when mike was young and physically primed, even if he wasn't 100% on the ball. Years later a much worse version of tyson was still koing guys in 1-2 rounds.
He dominated the heavyweight division at 5'10. Prime Mike is p4p the best ever
I'm a Mike fan, and I can accept it just fine. It's his own fault he wasn't prepared and underestimated Buster.
He didn't beat the greats
People seem to forget that Buster was a top ten fighter. However he was KO'd by fighters Tyson KO'd with ease. Styles make fights, but you have to also admit your mind and body has to be in the right place. On this particular night Busters focus and his training was the best its ever been, where as Tysons head and training had been on the wain since late 1988, and he still near beat him. I agree its his own fault, but at the same time you can't seriously think this Tyson that showed up was the same as 85-88.
He was never top 10
Absolutely love this vid. Thank you.
I don't care what he did before the fight he was going to sleep when he got hit with those shots .busters mum had died before the fight.he came in to that fight a different fighter.

: / NO EXCUSES FOR MIKE! HE GOT HIS ASS KICKED! HIS "STREET PUNK" ACT DIDNT WORK WITH BUSTER!
Tyson underestimated Douglas and thought he was invincible, like a lot of other champions...
Douglas trained like a demon and Tyson Hardly did. Douglas used the fact he was the underdog to his advantage knowing Tyson was not gona take him seriously.
He was an unknown but had already won 29 fights to earn this right as the number one contender.Tyson's camp should have taken note of that.

And last few days,Victoria Lee of ONE Championship MMA dead at the age of 18.
@@michaelz123x6 I love that Douglas beat Tyson though, he definitely deserved it 👏 He was a man on mission
@@michaelz123x6Douglas was actually the #2 contender before he fought Tyson. That’s why Tyson’s team had viewed the fight against Douglas as a tune up to prepare Tyson for the scheduled June 1990 fight vs Evander Holyfield (who was the #1 contender).
Tyson’s team knew that Tyson hadn’t fought in almost 9 months the night before the fight: and Tyson’s last fight had him KO Carl Williams in the 1st round.
Douglas’ lack of fear could have also begun as the result of Douglas having won 3 fights of his own on the undercard of previous Tyson title defenses: so Douglas’ team had a better idea of how to develop a strategy against Tyson than most before they received the offer
Douglas doesn't get nearly enough credit for this fight. People talk about how bad Tyson was but never how good Douglas was. He completely out strategised Tyson; his gameplan was pretty much flawless. Would he have beaten a prime Tyson? Perhaps not, but he still gave a terrific performance.
the most epic moment in combat history

In all honesty Mike won that fight, 13 seconds drawn out unfairly, but Buster outboxed Mike. What happened was that Mike Tyson fought Buster Douglas and lost and his hardcore fans have been making excuses ever since. Every fighter has problems going into a fight.
