If you have a Janome MC9400 or MC9450, you may've heard about the optional workbook that you can purchase from your local Janome dealer. In this video, I'm taking a look at this workbook to give you an overview of the information in it and to show you how helpful it would be if you own either of these sewing machines.

It is really sad that they do not give you these when the machine is purchased. For what they charge they should make this part of the package.

Kim l was so excited to watch UA-cam and see that there is a manual for my janome I have ordered a copy as there are no copies in Australia can't wait to receive it 👍
I didn’t know about this, but it seems like something that SHOULD come with the machine! The machine isn’t cheap, how touse the darn thing without having to get back to the dealer. Godh, I’m not happy withJanome. It can’t cost that much to print. Sounds like they’re turing into Bernina which scalps folks for everything…. What’s up? Anyone know the cost of this book. I teach young girls sewing lessons and have gifted Janome basic machines to three of my students. So I’m a loyal owner. I;ve been watching internet channels because covid made on site difficult, traveling was an issue as well as my age. It’s a fun machine, very fancy. Before I used an Elna Super from early 1970’s. Elna is no longer Elna, otherwise I would have stayed with the brand. This Janome almost does dishes and dances!

Can’t obtain it in Australia or the UK. I ended up purchasing via a company in America but the end cost was very high given exchange rate, postage etc. book looks great but it isn’t very big especially for the cost. Hopefully it will eventually get to Australia.

We should be able to buy as an option too here in Australia, I think anyway, we pay enough for the machines too. I'm in Perth and there are only so many stores you can buy sewing machines from.
IS the Upgrade to 9450 a software update to purchase. I did the ruler upgrade when I got the 9400 is that something totally different. Because the 9450 was not even out yet.
I called my local dealer and they are not aware of this as additional upgrade other than just the presser foot ruler work upgrade? Very informative.
I am so happy to have found this. ON amazon it did see a Janome Sewing Machine Presser Foot Workbook with Free Motion Presser Foot, Binders & Guides, and Specialty Feet Addendums also but it is like 130.00 crazy. but that looks to be like 4 seperate books? The 9450 workbook you are talking about looks to be about 50.00 US dollars.
The upgrade that you have on your 9400 is the only upgrade that Janome has issued. It adds the ability to use the ruler foot, but is not an upgrade to make the 9400 the 9450. There are additional features and different lighting on the 9450 that the 9400 does not have. There are different workbooks available for different machines and different accessories that Janome has produced and I see that you have found some of them on Amazon.
@@Chatterboxquilts I saw the Ruler kit you had on your amazon and placed an order on that it had a Heart ruler I was interested to try out in it. Thanks for all your help and time making these videos. This really motivates me so much. I am trying to tell myself not having the latest 9450 is ok and I have all I really need in the 9400 to not get new machine envy. I will have fun with the new rulers to not have to send my quilts off to be longarm quilted any longer saving me lots of money.
Amazon does carry the workbook if you can't get from your dealer - but it's $69!

I'm not sure about that - I would check with a local Janome retailer and they should be able to order it for you if they don't have it in stock.
Can I make a serpentine stitch with the walking foot (accu feed foot)?
Yes, you should be able to do this. It's been awhile since I've worked with the 9450 but on the M7 and the M17 you need to ensure that the "manual accufeed flex" is on in the machine settings. Go to ua-cam.com/video/os5hQRv2SU0/v-deo.htmlsi=XSJcNijSI-tWkzXV to see how to set this up on the M7 - that may help you on the 9450.
Hi Kim, I was so thrilled to hear about this book but Janome in the UK cant help me to purchase one do you know how I get one sent to me from USA or Canada.

I am in the US and just bought a MC9450qcp I really want this workbook how can I purchase a copy. Can I get one on line or do I have to go to the store I purchase the machine from?
Hi Julie: I'm not a Janome dealer, but I know that they are able to order a copy in for you. You can also find several places online that are selling them - just search for the name of the workbook and you'll find lots of choices.

I don't know that there is, Diane. I would check with your local Janome dealer about this.

I'm not sure if it is - I know that you can get it in the US and Canada but not Australia. I would check with your Janome dealer as they are the ones who will be able to get it for you if it's available.

I'm not sure about that, Line. I know that there are other countries trying to get this book as well and the shipping is pretty expensive. If you don't have a local Janome dealer to help you with this, I would check for one in Europe and see if they are able to get the book for you. I'm in Canada, so not sure about availability overseas.

I'm not sure about that but probably not. You can order it from various online merchants based in the US.
@@Chatterboxquilts Thanks a lot Kim for your reply, but the book plus the delivery plus the customs... it will be certainly too much expensive. I contacted Janome France and I am waiting for their reply. PS : thanks a lot for your videos, I've learned plenty of things on my new 9450 ;)

What is the name of the workbook called to order
It's called the "Horizon Memory Craft 9450 QCP Workbook". Your Janome dealer will probably call it the Janome 9450 workbook.
The work book should have been included with the purchase. The manual is barely usable.
Is this workbook also available in The Netherlands?
I don't think it's available in Europe but can be purchased through various online retailers in the US.

Will this work for the Elna 780+?
I'm not familiar with Elan models, so I'm not sure but your Elna/Janome dealer should be able to advise you on this.

Kim, Can I successfully use this workbook on my 8900? Some of features could be the same.
Hi Roxanna: Some of the features are the same, but there are a lot of features on the 9400 or 9450 that the 8900 doesn't have (tapering, variable zigzag, etc.). Also, the part numbers for the 8900 are often different from these other models. I hesitate to recommend it for the 8900 as I'm not sure that you would get enough value from it.
@@Chatterboxquilts Well, shucks. I first discovered you and your youtube shortly after I bought my 8900. Then, you upgraded, and I felt a little lost. Why is the 8900 no longer advertised as for sale. Have you any idea?
I believe that you can still purchase the 8900 but as it is an older model I believe that Janome advertises their newer models for sale.
