One ... I am so glad nobody has recorded me dancing on camera, ever. Two... I will always remember the days of blasting Global Underground, Tranceport, Resident Cream, Creamfields '99, Another World, and Ibiza. Oakey captured time back then, absolutely fantastic times for trance. I am sure to be rocking those mixes in my twilight years ... as an old timer in my recliner, like a boss.
First thanks for the memories. I'll second your second... Oakenfold's (I believe) "white album" Resident: Two Years of Oakenfold at Cream. I agree the GU albums, Gatecrasher, Ministry of Sound, Tranceport, and so on. Then the free Mixmag albums on the covers, ex.Timo Maas...brilliant! I definitely foresee listening to them until the end of time...
Don't forget the Essential Mix 1999 World Tour. Ibiza, Shanghai. Sydney, Liverpool, Havana, Miami & Buenos Aires just to mention a few. Each one an awesome classic Oakey mix.
This music is from above...if you dislike it, it is because you do not worth being part of such a higher state. Oakenfold is a very talented DJ, his mixes are wonderful, he includes vibes from great tunes from the 90s, starting from Jaydee, Miles, etc....
In the mid-80's a very good friend of mine [Mickey Jackson] kept going on about a couple of his mates who had just started DJ'ing in the South London area. Mickey knew I was a DJ [I was always making him 'mix' tapes and telling him about all the big tracks I was playing] so he was constantly pestering me to come and hear them play to get my opinion. Finally I agreed to catch one of their nights. A few weeks later in a club called 'Coppertops' in Croydon High Street, Trevor Fung and Paul Oakenfold put on their first proper gig. It was mostly attended by their friends and family - and to tell the truth, it wasn't that great. They were 'experimenting' with a new style of dance music - which is always difficult - and it just wasn't working. Despite that, Paul and Trevor were determined to stick with it. Mickey introduced me to Paul and Trevor and we became quite good friends. In fact, a few months later we all went on a skiing holiday together - although Paul and Trevor spent most of their time in their room getting wasted! [it was insane - they had both spent an absolute fortune on all the best skiing outfits and equipment and I think they only actually went out on the slopes for one day!] Anyway, and as is typical on the 'London scene' Paul began to get more and more noticed. [Trevor had more or less decided he wasn't as talented at DJing, so became Paul's [sort of] manager. Paul was by now rapidly improving and building a very solid reputation - his dedication and commitment to his music was finally working and the plaudits were rolling in. He launched his record label [Perfecto] released his first album and the rest as they say is history. I am truly so pleased for Paul - he did it his own way, worked bloody hard and deserves all the acclaim he got. Good on yer mate!
What a classy set from the one and only Mr Paul Oakenfold. Such a fresh sounding set that is very organic and authentic and a pleasure to listen to. First time I have listened to a set (an set) in quite some time in its entirety and what an enjoyable and wonderful track selection in this set. Have always loved Paul Oakenfold and had the privilege of regularly enjoying his weekly residency in Cream in Liverpool back in the mid 1990's. Simply legendary and clearly the passion and fire that he has for music is still burning ever so brightly. Class and talent always remains and the love for music never wanes with this musical maestro, simply wonderful !

Has to be one of the most influential Djs of the modern age. I used to love his residency at Cream in Liverpool with Seb Fontaine, those were the days lol.
I cannot get enough of this ... been listening daily. I love the old school vibes, and I have friends in Ireland who have been raving about this set. I absolutely love this deep sound.
OLD SKOOL IS OKENFOLD,1988/89sets this is same old,a bit ruff around the edges,he has never been the best at mixing records, but has brilliant production ability
Oaky has the most awkward stage presence ever 😂 the backwards cap, the leather jacket, the way he wears his headphones, hands in pocket, sometimes randomly pointing at an audience member, haha I love it. What a legend
Oh, this takes me back to my raver days in 99 - 03. I sure as hell didn't dress like these people though. Times sure have changed, glad to see Paul still doing it. Countdown - 02/03 in the Bronx, NY. Will always bring a smile to my face.

Lots of comments about the crowd. Sorry to say, but its the DJ that controls the crowd. They have their movement moments. Especially when the (minimal) beat drops. Dont get me wrong, Paul is my favorite, a legend and I would by far would go to his show ABOVE any other DJ. The crowd wouldn't be there if they didn't like him. Just saying.
I respect Oakey, he is a legend in his own right. I own a ton of Perfecto records from way back when but his set here, not sure. This crowd though. i don't know they seem they just came from a Shelter and need to be fed.
Okay people this set says "Paul Oakenfold Epic House and Nu-Trance set" not "Epic Trance Set" he is clearly showcasing his artist who are on perfecto deep, which I think is magnificent, so yeah.
I am a classical music sort of chap through and through and know almost nothing about popular music but Paul Oakenfold is one of only three DJs I think I've ever even heard of. I though he was a pretty big deal in his sphere.
? He was the biggest name in clubland 95-99 with an absolute massive library of tunes he and his label had released...maybe a tiny bit overrated really.
Been listening to house since its birth. What I hear is a genius. What I see is Paul. A true gent. Perfecto Mixio Journeyio. Last tune topps it off brilliantly. Schorchio. ;-)
Ya know whats so great about this guy!!? My most favorite DJ!!! He plays WHAT HE WANTS, GROUNDBREAKING ALWAYS, ALWAYS BENDING THE RULES. HE DOSENT PLAY WHAT YOU WANT, BIG DIFFERENCE. IM AT THE SECOND SONG AND RIGHT THERE TELLS THE REST OF THE STORY. THIS GUY IS THE BEST. PERIOD !! what are we going to do when he stops??
After watching just five minutes of this video. I suddenly realise that the dance music scene I knew and loved are now over. Those memories I have of oakenfold being his epic Goa mix, to banging it in a tent in creamfields with 20000 adoring scousers, to stepping off the plane into the ibiza madness that he helped create, even the magazine mixmag back in the day was a progressive print that we bought religiously. Yet now what has become of Oakie, fooking around with cds, in some awful upscale LA joint, while having the humiliation of being presented by a young punk who represents mixmag. All the while playing nu disco to an american crowd that really is to cool for school but hate to break to them are pretty clueless!! Oh well it was epic while it lasted and the memories, or the hazy memories of those times are legendary.
@@jbondarts Nothing wrong with you (I'm the original person who posted 5 years ago). I think this song was never released because the Love Can't Turn Around sample was never cleared. The song is probably from Oakenfold himself.

Hold it just one second. This is the nice TGIF they have at Mixmag´s offices around the world... It is a small room in an office... not a huge club at peak night. I would love it if at work we had a TGIF party with Mr Paul playing some tunes, after a long week of stress and production
4 Scousers with 200 each couldn’t breathe life into this dance floor. Paul Oakenfold or not, the music is completely hollow - even Paul knows it, as shown by the lack of enthusiasm. It’s a bit like a photocopy of a photocopy of a painting by Titian. The shapes might all be in view, but there’s no soul there...
BAD SANTA Hmm. I’ve given this an honest second chance now. I still don’t get it. For me the only DJ still doing what they were doing 20 years ago is PvD. Nobody like him any more!
He was the first "#1" DJ in the world!! I miss the late 90's!!
Fave DJ around 2000
This mix wasnt trance music at all ‼️😑

The first #1 was Carl Cox

Chris F too fuckin right, that was our era, amazing. I still hold respect for his new sounds, but it ain’t pure gurning churning throbbing trance

That's why here in south africa Johannesburg our tech clubs have a no phone policy and they actually stick/block ur camera lens
A Legend!! Bless you Oakie. Privileged to see him Live. One of my best dancing parties. Banging trance.
finally a dj who doesn't touch the knobs like they are hot, and he's actually mixing a set. Maybe cause he's old school...
this guy is a legend dj and producer and comes froma tiem wher the music matters and not the show
Seven year ago and still a delicious set.

Half of the people there didn't know Paul Oakenfold and or his legacy. You can tell...
A real dj playing a real set. Other dj's play hit after hit after hit... Paul plays a symphony.
Yeah those dj playing hits after hits start to lose the crowd 30 minutes in.
This is so epic... what a nice set.
What a master of his art heard him first time at a house party and fell in love with his music and with Paul humble person
I'm sure that blonde had a rich dad. Who knows. Just guessing
07. Moguai - Optinuum I like this! Starting with the 30th minute!
Okay people this set says "Paul Oakenfold Epic House and Nu-Trance set" not "Epic Trance Set" he is clearly showcasing his artist who are on perfecto deep, which I think is magnificent, so yeah.

A great set from a legend I remember from my youth........he's 54 and still playing awesome music FFS, lol
When the crowd is full of millennials and u look up and see a sad group looking at their phones 😥 props to oak to keep pumpin it out 🙌👍
All I Want Is You,dont Let me down tonight - the last track - very good music as this DJ set too.Paul is a Real Legend of dance music :-)

I miss the courtyard days Paul.
I miss the front room, the back room, the zoo bar (and failed "lets sell chips bit), and the courtyard, front right of the courtyard!
That last track was just so amazing
You can actually see the boiler room type crowd sucking the soul straight from within him.
So true.
PERFECT panning shot at 1:06:59..I think Oakenfold has some sort of epiphany of the crowd.
It's like a look of disappointment but also acceptance of the reality he is facing. Your comment made me laugh!
