Apart from the grief and anxiety life can bring , with its wet or dry tears of remorse and the good tears of joy and its welcome relief , we are comforted by a history lesson by way of the healing sounds of Celtic Beauty and Perfection . A spiritual reset to our more peaceful self.

A terrific example of not trying to fill the empty spaces that make the wonderful song so beautiful. He can certainly do that where it makes sense, Bob Dylan and Levon Helm kept him busy for over a decade and a half, but he has the feel of the song when he plays, no where does it show more than here. Amazing.

This is beautiful. Im old or getting old now and when I hear something like this, it makes me feel regret because I love stringed instruments like guitar and only started playing it, in my “ getting old” days. I had fun in the younger days in Blues bands ,playing keys and harmonica, but this is something else

That is a powerful response. But I’ve been playing guitar for about 50 years - and also feel regret that I didn’t play more, didn’t improve more, didn’t devote more time to it. I suspect that there are truly great guitarists who also have regrets - because if you play you always know you can get better.

@@haroldsteinblatt2567I won’t say I’m truly great or anything but I’ve been a professional guitarist for 50 years. Yep,I wish I would have been more disciplined all these years. I will say though, keep rockin. I’m 67 and just starting to play steel guitar. It’s never too late.

I had a cassette tape once of O’Carolan songs, all of which were beautiful songs. The tape is long gone, but this rendition brought some of that magic back. Long live composers of great melodies and songs, and long live Larry Campbell!

Ole Larry has good taste choosing this one. I wouldn't call it a cover. Turlough has been dead for better than 300 years, so he won't get cut out of any radio rotations or download sales. :)

I sorely wish someone would buy him a better guitar~ with a better tone especially. His talent and touch deserve it. Thank you, Frederick Matt for posting. If only I had the money.........

A late reply, I know, but......The guitar is not the problem, but the choice of a bridge transducer pickup system. It senses, first and foremost, the strike of the string at the saddle. They are less prone to feedback, thus well suited to playing with a louder band, but in this case, not well suited. Despite my total agreement with your repulsion to the bright, brittle tone, I'm always brought to tears by this performance. I fear I may have to tune my F# to a G, and learn this one. DADGAD has never drawn me in, but I'll make an exception to learn this one.

I must have defective hearing, but I loved the brightness of this sound. Still, I've never been able to tell the difference between a good stereo and a cheap one. I really do think I must have something wrong with my cochlea!
