- Peter Blanchette performing his arrangement of the Irish folk tune "Si Beag Si Mor" by Turlough O'Carollan in a free concert for pilgrims of the Camino de Santiago. (Video by visitparallax.com)
I went there and dis 200 Km when I was 15.
Great memories.
Greetings from Brussels, Belgium.
There was a pretty Catalan woman named Carolina I liked there. She was 22.
Oh sweet memories!
Beautiful. I had twin daughters one of which has sadly passed away and one got the height the other, who passed was the small one! I always will think of this as a song for them. Thank you again!
So sad to read this! At least, she will always be in your heart, and hopefully in a higher sphere, with GOD!
This piece takes you to another world, I could listen to this all day, I wish i had a fraction of this gentleman's talent on the guitar.
Thanks for the positive comments!
Peter Blanchette
Best version of this song. Great, love it so much!
Man, you took this already perfect and immensely beautiful tune to a whole different level... Wow.
Brav eo ken eo brav!
Is there a way to purchase a copy of this? I think it is so hauntingly beautiful
You're a truly great artist.
Ahhh, I shudder to think how much in back royalties I owe Turlough for this feckin' little number.
One of my favorite tunes...I love to play it on the fiddle. Beautiful rendition! ❤
Love this rendition from Peter Blanchette. Incredibly moving.
Thank you for your amazing music Peter!
Wow! We were there! (and this video proves it!)
Merci pour ce moment de grâce et de magie! La guitare est incroyable, comme le guitariste qui la fait sonner...
Beautiful version masterfully played.
Thank you mr Blanchette
Thank you, Peter Blanchette, for immortalizing this wonderful arrangement of this beautiful tune on YT that we might enjoy it, over and over, it is truly sublime! My best, Ed

Close your eyes, you’re on a Scottish island on a clear, calm day and ships with bright flags are passing ……. everything’s right in the world
Heaven.
This is wonderful. Ronn McFarlane’s version is also super awesome
Makes me want to drift off into the ether😀
Very interesting instrument. Re-entrant tuning?
KickStarter Project sent me.
We really do all come from the same place, bless
Heard hints of "down by the glenside"
It is down by the glenside from 1:55
I’ve decided this will be the first UA-cam video my son ever hears. He’s due to be born any day now.
Likely he he heard it before he was born.
Thank you everyone, for the kind words about this video! My good friend Paul Odgren has a way of making videos right there, while I'm performing, and you don't even notice him moving around- it's magical, once he edits it together.
Someone mentioned that there is another song in this arrangement- that's correct. It's called "The Bold Fenian Men."
Again, thanks so much for viewing, enjoying and sharing my music!
+archguitar Thank you, Peter, for making such beautiful music. Please keep it up; many of us have come to depend on it!
Thanks for the kind words!
is there a way I can get this on itunes?
That's magic! I'm wondering what's the tuning on this arrangement? thanks a lot
I love this guitar! I am an Italian Guitar teacher/player/composer.....I need to know where can I find a builder who can make this guitar for me! I cannot live without playing this magical instrument.
Simply gorgeous. I've heard so many arrangements of this O'Carolan piece. The melody is quite simply one of the most beautiful ever created. It lifts your heart but also makes you weep. Makes me proud to be Irish :-)
I completely agree - this rendition of it is sublime.
This was our wedding (isle walk) song, 2 weeks ago, possibly the most beautiful piece of music we have ever heard ❤
"SI BEAG SI MOR" "The battle between the big fairies and the little fairies". I first heard this magical song while sitting on my grandmother's knee in CALLOW, County MAYO. I was 5 and she "initiated" me into Irish folklore - she also introduced me to TURLOUGH O'CAROLAN - Her great great uncle --- who was blinded at age 19. as a result of scarlet fever. Read his life story - it's DEEPLY INSPIRING. The blindness changed his life and turned his heart toward MUSIC - which he left for ALL OF US! I'm 81 now - I have an Irish Harp and I've spent 60 years playing and singing O'Carolan's music -- FOOD FOR THE SOUL -- which has filled my heart with JOY!
This is divine and his rendering flows peacefuly like the movement of tranquil waters. Just out standing . This performance has made my evening.
Wonderful. An Irish tune in Spain. I'm so proud to be Irish. very, very well done Peter. What an impressive instrument. it's,hard enough plucking on 6 strings!
Peter, lovey sounds. Also love how you sneak the Bold Fenian men in there and uinless you know the tune you do not even know its a different song all together.
Peace , love, and happiness to all!
I have listened to this so many times. Just a supremely beautiful piece. Beautifully arranged and executed. Thank you for this, Peter.
The tune, the playing of the tune, the beauiful setting and the attentive audience. All is absolutely perfect and a blessing to the soul. Let's not forget one person who is there in the form of this tune - and maybe in spirit - Turlough O'Carolam, the blind harper who overcame his condition to delight us with some of the most beautiful tunes ever composed. God bless all those involved.
My favorite composer - he takes you thru all the emotions of human life - into the HEAVENS and back - GOD BLESS YOU TURLOUGH O'CAROLAN - hope to meet you one day!
One of the most beautiful things I've ever heard
I come here often. As an Irishman who loves music (esp O’Carolan and Planxty) and churches , this soothes my soul. Wonderful arrangement, wonderful playing, wonderful setting. Thank you Peter
Me too, Brian! Huge Planxty listener here. This is, indeed soul-soothing. I'm grateful for Peter Blanchette!
Me three!
I rarely ever sign into UA-cam, I rarely ever comment, but this put me on the floor. An amazing interpretation . Thank you sir.
The people in that church saw something special that day. Look at their faces. They will never forget it.
I love that the best I've ever heard it played
You played with O'Carolan this beautiful mistic song. The little people will be with you for ever.
This tune has a deeply resonant effect on me. I just think I must have heard it in another life. Fast or slow, on any instrument, it is my favorite.
Faith Haddad its 1 Tune and 1 song mixed in the middle
'tis a good song
I think Planxty did it better IMHO
This is reaching my soul at 5am when nothing else, no one else could do. Deep respect from a fellow musician and travelling soul in the world
Such a moving and beautiful rendition. It lifts the spirit
The brides in my family walk down the isle to this with the uilleann pipes, this is so beautiful and gentle and wonderful xx
sounds like a terrific event!
I remember my music teacher in Clonmel Tipperary playing this on his harpsichord. He was a gifted man. His name was Micheal Ó Suibheallain and he has since passed. He told us that someday most of us would listen again to the tunes of O Carolan and in fairness it has happened.
Was that THE Michael O’Suilleabhain - the professor? Lucky to have him as your music teacher.
@@joefagan9335 Yes indeed it was. His mother had been accidently killed in her home by a gas explosion and so he spent a few years back in his hometown.
I love Clonmel! Still visit family in the area.
I wish it would never end .. the peace and depth of your playing is amazing . Bravo
Beautiful version of a brilliant song written by a brilliant composer who lived long ago.
Your arrangement and ornaments make it glow. Hats off to you, Peter.
Long live the memory of those Bold Fenian Men
A stunning, heartbreakingly good performance
I am listening to this today, 27th January 2020, the 75th Commemoration of the liberation of the Nazi concentration camp in Auschwitz. - It seems to resonate in deep solace from the fingers of beloved Turlough O'Carolan, and in 300 years anticipation.
Your rendition of this is absolutely beautiful. You play as if you have the heart and soul of an Angel.
01:50 - a variation on the song "Bold Fenian Men" I believe, for anyone wondering
AKA "down by the glenside"
It’s the music of angels. Or of The Faeries.
Just beautiful to listen to this on St. Patrick's day 2022.
What a perfect setting for a perfect rendition of a perfectly lovely song.
What a totally incredible sound - matched only by the peerless playing and wonderful arrangement. Thank you for uploading this treasure.
Without doubt my favourite O'Carollan tune and beautifully played. Thanks so much.
Eu amo essa música..... Desde 1993 ou 1994... Escutei em um CD e é tão mágica... Nunca encontrei esses anos todos.... Encontrei aqui hoje, em 2 de julho de 2022. GRATIDÃO! 🙏🏻🤲🏻😉🕉🧿💯🕉
Absolutely beautiful rendition. One of my favourites so much so that I paid a visit to O'Carolans grave years ago. The little blast of The Bold Fenian men was simply superb. Love from Belfast.
Quand j'écoute ça c'est que dieu existe ..
A stunningly beautiful performance.
This is beautiful. Hearing it is like inhaling after not being able to breathe. Beauty is especially important in difficult times such as these.
Magical Guitar 🎸 I always wanted to learn how to play but never did
This is my story when I was a kid, we went to a fair ground and there were selling guitars for little kid I asked my mom to buy me one but my mom didn't have any money so if my mom bought that guitar in that fair I should learn how to play so that is my true story
This is the finest version of this tune on youtube, Absolutely delicious. Thank you. I've taken many of these harmonies and incorporated them into my own version. I think many song writers have also heard this as well. It's truly beautiful. Thank you.
The Irish name means fairy mound,,,it seems appropriate to play it in a church,,,or is that a blasphemous idea, Many Irish fiddlers/harpists claimed they learnt their tunes from faery people,,did O Carollan make this claim for this tune,Ms Haddad below writes,,,,I must have heard this in another life, And yet I guess she doesnt know about faery origins, How strange. Why is Irish music universally appealing,,is it because its Celtic antiquity makes it closer to Indo European origins, But the Japanese and Chinese are not of Indo European origin,,,yet they love Irish music,Maybe Indo European is a false construct, Mr Blanchette Mr Ogden,,,we are all pilgrims on this earth,,,we all seek the true way,You made this for us all, Thank you
Absolument magnifique !!!
Quel est le nom de cette guitare ?
Wonderful! And a fine impro/variation before the Coda.
It was real pleasure!
I was asked to play "Simple Gifts" on dulcimer for a friend who was getting married but when I saw her looking so beautiful I couldn't remember SG and I played this tune instead. Not that SG isn't a great song, but this one fit the occasion better. Thanks for posting.
Thankyou. Just so lovely...
Absolute genius when will you come to Ireland
Love this tune. Been listening to all versions. Definitely the most beautiful. I've learned on violin.
One word…. Beautiful
Beautiful! Do you sell the music or tab?
great performanse and sound
BRAVO PETER & Thank You so much. This piece was a fav of a very dear friend, Michael James Smith. He was a self-taught classical guitarist who was my friend for 50+ years. Lost Him app. 4 years ago. Miss Him Dearly. Jimmie must have been tired playing this for me ............but, He never said it. hahahaha. You truly warmed my heart tonight.
This song is so beautiful and soothing. I'm reminded of when I also walked the Camino with so many fond memories

Stellar delicious, memorable, great arrangement and pace, and OMG venue/acoustics! ❤️🙏🎶🎻
I love these pieces. Gorgeous. Thank you.
Perfect match between el camino and the music. Beautiful.
Peter, This music is enchanting and I would love to have the chords for this variation, so I could learn to play it. Chris
Very beautiful music we used this music for our wedding and people just loved it. You are very talented man and enjoy listening to your music, keep up the great work
Hi Peter, Is there any way of purchasing a recording of this piece? It is simply beautiful!
I only have one thing to say....majestic
Thank you for doing what you do Peter. The world needs more refined artists like you...I don't think I've ever seen a guitar with two jacks sticking out. What sort of pickups are used on that lovely instrument?
Beautifully arranged & played!!! Lucky pilgrims!
Excellent arrangement of this beloved piece
