Tuning in the AUTO mode (briefly touch RB1, pin 22 on the microprocessor, to ground) will enable automatic retuning whenever the frequency is changed. Auto mode is memorized in nonvolatile memory until that pin is grounded briefly again. Apparently this unit is delivered in the default Manual mode requiring explicit TUNE press whenever retuning is required. There's lots of info about the ATU-100 operation online.
Unless you need it portable, the first thing to do is to remove the battery and charging circuit and replace it with a linear 12V wall wart. The battery up converter produces terrible hash on some frequencies

Hi! I have one ATU-100. The Power reading doesnt seem correct in SSB (I put 100W in my IC-718 and the ATU only shows 11 ~ 12W), does yours read it as it should or it shows a little bit less of power output?
@@McPilot_W3DDS The swr reading its about 1.5 without the tuner, after tunning its gets around 1.1. It seems to be tunning ok, I just suspicious about the power reading in SSB 😅
@@McPilot_W3DDS I find out the problem, the problem is my power supply, it isnt powerfull enough for my radio.. so the reading is right.. I'm going to purchase an 20a or more power supply. Thanks :)
How much power were you putting out when tuning. What is the min power it will tune with. How do you ensure you don't blow the finals whilst tuning. Answers much appreciated
@@McPilot_W3DDS The instructions I have seen say no more than 10W to tune! Minimum to tune is 5W, tunes perfectly on 5W and it does not strain the finals.

Hi I didn't understand if when it goes to tune you have to hold down the handset and speak into the microphone ...
The transceiver must be putting out power. You can place the transceiver in fm mode and key the mike or cw mode and key the paddle

You have to tune with 15 watts minimum. It’s just like any tuner. Tune with minimum power necessary
Most newer radios have a limiting system to decrease power of swr is high

@@McPilot_W3DDS Using that all the time is a sure way to damage finals as the power will start high and only reduce if the SWR is outside limits,
@@RudixSA yes but if swr is high to start 5 watts out of radio will end up as much less at tuner and will not start tuning cycle
