I'm about to go buy this and try it since the alternative is around 2k this looks like an excellent alternative - I'm wondering though, what might the new pressure be since the tamper provides a much wider surface area? I would like to get at least 4-5 tons of pressure and I'm not sure if I should buy the 12-ton or 20-ton shop press. Thank you very much for showing us this mod!
Absolutely. The cost was definitely a factor in me buying this setup. I don't know the exact tons that it will apply with the plate but the 12 ton has plenty of pressure to cut into anything from 2 to 7 oz. Leather which is all I have tried with it but it would probably do thicker . I guess it depends on what leather thickness you will be wanting to click out the most as a deciding factor in 12 ton vs 20 ton press. Hoped that helped with your question. I guess i would say it depends on what you will be using it for. This one has been plenty enough for what i have used it for which is cutting thinner leather 2-3 oz. Up to 6-7 oz. Haven't tried it on anything thicker. Its better to make sure its got a good base to press on and something that will distribute the pressure from above evenly. But hey i don't think you would go wrong getting the 20 ton. Just depends
