Rhiannon may very well be my favorite artist of my lifetime. That is saying a lot. I was born in the early 50's so for my money, I have been privileged to hear and see the best of the best. No one touches me like Rhiannon.
Same here, David. I was born in Ohio in the early 50's and moved South in 1979. Fast forward to a few months ago, I found out about the Carolina Chocolate Drops, then Rhiannon, Dom Flemmons and in a month, I have purchased every CD she performs on. Today she partners in life and music with Francesco Turrisi and they are amazing as well. She has written an opera called 'Omar', based on a true story. It is being performed around the USA upcoming. She is also doing a music residency in Ojai California early next year.
How beautiful! So simple. A guitar, crickets and the two beautiful voices of women harmonizing perfectly. Rhiannon Giddens is amazing. A gorgeous voice (as well as Laurelyn Dossett's) and the ability to sing so many genres of music, playing so many instruments. The talent possessed by this one woman is immeasurable.
I can never understand why people feel the need to click on the 'dislike' button-it is fine if they don't like a song, just move on to something else. How can you decide on hearing a song once that you dislike it that much? What is even more of a mystery to me is how something as beautiful as this has only 50,000 views, even after 4 years, compared to the tens of millions that some moronic pop offerings receive within days of being posted!
I agree, and despite the fact that she is one of , if not the best entertainer, the likely answer is that traditional radio, including country stations discriminate against Giddens. What is needed to have a lot of "views" is exposure!!!
You have to understand. The pop world has no clue what real talented voices sound like. They don't have to have help enhancing their beautiful powerful voices.
This songs really shows that less can be better than more in music. The stripped back, acoustic only, and the beautiful harmonies are all the instruments needed. I could listen to this all day long...Wait...I DO listen to this all days long!
I've noticed that with much of the music that Rhiannon Giddens performs restraint is ever present. The "less is more" attitude prevails. Simplicity and beauty. It doesn't get any better.
Great! Great! Great! Love these ladies and love Rhiannon. Especially like how the Carolina Chocolate Drop members show up playing with other people with no apparent conflict of egos or "Look at Me" syndrome. They love music and they love sharing their talent.
Beautiful. All it needed was guitar and background of crickets. What music should be, Front porch singing. Cannot get any better than this. Beverly Michael
I love this song so much. It makes my soul happy. I wish y'all would add 50 more verses. My almost 2 yr old granddaughter loves it too, she falls asleep listening to it over n over. 💚💜💞
Wow!!!!!! She's wonderful.....soul in every word!!!! Dam where can I find a girl like her? Wow....keep on doing your magic with your compassionate heart and soul hun!!!!!!
I cannot believe this upload has so few views. A beautiful song sung so wonderfully by Rhiannon and Laurelyn. So emotionally moving. Thanks for uploading.
She has a great voice but this song reminds me of the dreary coffee house folk music I heard back in the sixties. As long as she stays away from Kumbaya I can hang in there.
Music is subjective of course, and I have never got on that well with the songs or voice of Joan Baez, but I love Rhiannon Giddens voice-in fact it is so good that it has encouraged me to listen to genres of music and artists (that she has covered) that I wasn't that familiar with. I have seen her sing live three times now, and each time she was awesome.
Rhiannon Giddens is one of the pe- eminent performers of the 21st century.

You are by no means alone
Rhiannon Giddens one of the best voices on the American music scene.
the smile at the end says it all: pure enjoyment, respect and love

+Portcullis I´m sure that troll clicked dislike before he listened to this song.

holy words

I am afraid they dislike her for racism. And that is even worse than poor taste.
two beautiful women, beautifully singing and beautiful song.....this is as good as it gets
Magnificent!!!
In a class of her own.

Big fan of Rhiannon. She is a national treasure and her recent McArthur award is a final statement on her talent. R
How sweet this is - it brings tears to my eyes and gladdens my heart that there is still such beauty in this world.
Thank you. Exactly right. You nailed it.
Great! Great! Great! Love these ladies and love Rhiannon. Especially like how the Carolina Chocolate Drop members show up playing with other people with no apparent conflict of egos or "Look at Me" syndrome. They love music and they love sharing their talent.
And they deeply respect and appreciate each other.

So beautiful... made me cry...
beautiful playing and singing!!
Very nice. I love also the natural background sound, sort of an uninvited, self- directed orchestra.
Looking for Glenn Miller, came across this. Just lovely!

made me cry

Wow!!!!!! She's wonderful.....soul in every word!!!! Dam where can I find a girl like her? Wow....keep on doing your magic with your compassionate heart and soul hun!!!!!!

Beautiful
Wowser!
David Johnson other than the legendary Harry Belafonte ( who turned 93 today ) I couldn’t agree with you more.
Mama mia what a voice. Reminds me of Bonnie Raitt and Joan Baez rolled into one.
and the crickets....
Who wrote that beautiful song ?
This That hey! I did. My name is Laurelyn. I am singing with Rhi in my backyard.
Wow , lovely.
She has a great voice but this song reminds me of the dreary coffee house folk music I heard back in the sixties. As long as she stays away from Kumbaya I can hang in there.
+DucksDeLucks If you haven't already done so, maybe have a listen to Rhiannon singing 'Spanish Mary', 'Julie' or 'O Love Is Teasin'.
I'll check it out. Just ask her not to do any Joan Baez covers (-;

Portcullis btw I think Joan Baez had a beautiful voice but she soon put it at the service of material that I don't care for.
Wow they're only "strings" ...... How can strings ..... Plucking strings...... connect directly to my emotions ?
I'm dreaming
