I feel like I should apologize for not knowing the brilliance of your music, but as someone who has just discovered you, I want to say I love your music and you have a new fan.
One of the few (perhaps only) perks of COVID-19 has been additional time to get exposed to various artist. I'm lucky to be up the road from Rhiannon Giddens in Hillsborough, NC (when she lived in USA) and have followed her since her days in the group known as "Carolina Chocolate Drops". Indy--enjoy your new find!
Aside from all of her musical talent and knowledge of the history of the various instruments she plays and of the songs themselves, I just love that no matter how formal the venue is that she's performing in, such as this symphony orchestra, she's very comfortable stomping around barefoot. Because that's the way she feels the past.
Some people were granted more than one person's proper allotment of talent. She is just too brilliant.
Why? She only survives by public funds and every album shes put out has flopped. She also dosent speak Gaidhlig and just mimics nonsense. She also lost all the celtic dance competitions she entered like not even making top ten. Shes middling at best.

The French subtitles are interesting - they throw in a few French phrases that capture the French context of what Ms. Giddens is saying, not the literal words. Like "En fait" for "well" at 0:31.

So cool..as a dedicated musician,all I can say is ..oh! what a woman. Rhiannon is touching something of central importance: where did we all come from,and how did we influence each other. Artistically, that's where all the truly new,exciting things happen. I can relate to her exploration of Celtic music..I can't get enough Afghan music. Tracing through all the ways we collaborated generations ago has an extremely inspiring quality.
First time I saw Rhiannon singing "Julie" I was in love with her perfect "nose" and thought she was the perfect american folk roots preserver...In this video I discovered she is the hardest working person in U.S. roots konwledge...I'm double in love!!! Rhiannon has African, Scottish, and Ocaneechi ancestry. She is indeed a blessed blend of African, Celtic, and Indigenous blood, and draws from all of it in her work.

Rhiannon Giddens is a national treasure...but to whom does she belong? Ireland - Scotland - France - America - Africa? All have rightful claim if you ask me - I'm just so glad she's around and may that be for a long long time.

Isn't she amazing? I found Rhiannon Giddens on youtube a year ago and feel that her music could bring joy back into the most sorrowful of souls.
Our young friends in Rennes, Bretagne, Lena, Leila, and friends formed an Old Time Band called the Sugar Family. Check out their Facebook Page. Our hostess during our visit in September, Lena, plays clawhammer banjo and clogs (sometime at the same time). They are all wonderful musicians and friends. We met during Clifftop, Appalachian Stringband Festival a few years ago.
And she plays violin to boot!!!
