I don't think late Millennials or GenZ will understand this video well enough. If you skated somewhere in the early 1990s as a street skater, you will realise how Zumiez robbed the local shops who supported the art; fruits of their labor. Yes Competition exists and its survival of the fittest but it would have been only fair for Zumiez to contribute to the development of the craft and support the locals who skated.
Bro the cutoff for millennials is 1984. And it's not like people stopped skating past the 90's. It's well ingrained in skating culture, no matter how old you are, that zumiez is taboo.
Every time I go to zumiez all the employees are skaters and are knowledgeable on the subject, they will even setup your board for you. The stores are always very much like being at any other skate shop, they have reputable parts and brands with high quality. They’re grunge, worn out and cool looking inside, stickers all over things, open ceilings showing scaffolding, all while selling the best deck brands you can find today. They’ll let you do skate tricks in the shop and their clothing is all known skate brand related. They even have Snuffed On Sight merch. It is far from being the Walmart of skateboard shops because it’s an actual skate shop, it just happens to also be a successful franchise. It’s successful for a reason. Because skaters go there and rely on their parts and clothing.
inasmuch as I understand your perspective, you are most likely underestimating how Zumiez took the business of the local people who put sweat and blood, suffered so much hate just for being skaters. I skated in the 1990s before moving to Australia in the 2000s. Zumiez never supported the local skate communities nor the street skaters. so yes I understand they got it all but if you have a retrospective experience, you will understand why people like me and many of my colleagues who still love skating (but cant skate much) have hatred for Zumiez. no matter how right they try to put it, they robbed the locals and they must admit it

I love Zumiez always have great sale and they save a lot of skate brands from going bankrupt and they have really good stuff not cheap stuff
