Don't make projections of what the future is supposed to be according to your ideals. Be flexible. Expectations are a real killer. Alternatively, don't have any dreams to start with and you won't have any broken.
Yeah mad. Maybe dying isn't such a bad idea after all then eh? Man, that's bleak as fuck dude. Set goals that are lofty, sure. But don't expect too much. Get as close as you can to them.
@@rtmpgt The last bit was a joke, you can't lose what you don't have. The rest of it is based in Eastern philosophy, amongst other schools of thought. I just broke out of the rent trap to buy a place close to my mum and my stepdad, mostly because he's got terminal cancer and my sister lives a good two hours north of her. I waited and waited for the perfect apartment, and we got one. Really nice, in a secure complex and very easy to maintain for my (diagnosed) autistic arse. I budgeted in such a way that I'm only spending about a third of my income on mortgage, a third on expenses and leaving a third for savings. I told myself for a good decade that I'd be too poor to own a house. But that's because I doubted my own abilities and had a lot of internalised ableism towards my own condition... Then I actually manned the fuck up, saved my cash and bought the fuckin thing. Then, literally a month later? The price spike hit WA. I quite literally, instantly made $80k. But, the true value of a house is a personal investment. It means you can put your work into your own back pocket as opposed to putting it into your landlord's pocket. I believe that buying a place is a pretty goddamn good goal. It's quantifiable, achievable for most people given a tiny bit of luck and a lot of hard work, and most of all, it betters you to have your own space. Top vid Jords!
I dream of catching big fish and I keep fulfilling my dreams, but it doesnt make me any money. All my dream fish have been quite easy too, i always seem to land the monster really easy. When I was learning my craft it was somewhat difficult, but I learnt in a hard place and when I started going to places to target dream fish, I catch the monster really quick and easy.

Yeah, it's great to have lofty goals but at the end of the day, it's about the journey towards them. I aspire to make a feature film one day. But I know that I have neither the capital nor the time, so I instead focused on sharpening the saw by working in a corporate educational field as the fact that I'm making videos is enough, it also keeps my skills honed. I wanna try some day though.
Jordan, is there any help on navigating differences in goals, in a relationship? I am a guy that has (probably delusional) aspirations to own and run events venues, however my partner doesn't share, or have any interest in discussing the idea. Because I would be working a lot, and be very busy for the foreseeable future, she doesn't see any value in me even thinking about it. What do?
That. If you're not content with yourself, why would your partner be content with you? Maybe she's insecure about you being "too good" for her. It's important to talk this out.
At 42, I had 40000 about to hit my account, I was about quit my job I hate and where my previous ex and his new girlfriend also still work (and thats just the start). I finally was ready to move on. That month covid hit and my cat died. After my depression kicked in and i fucked up and spent the money (because i no longer thought i was ever going to get any of my dreams), THEN my car died (that I just paid off) And the guy i was trying to see broke my heart again. So I fucked up my work, my friendships and my financial situation😒😕. so that's been fun. Oh and just got diagnosed with ADHD/ADD. Trying to create some new dream... hard when I don't think I can achieve anything. I'm hoping to start a new job in a new agency in next month or so, and need to reset my head and heart so to not fuck it up😅😆
Hey Jordan, I'm in collage and have been watching your videos and fixing my life up. I've read awaken the giant within and eat that frog, both excellent, are there any other books you recommend, specifically for uni students.
"Think like a designer, don't act like one" is a really good, short little book with lots of tips on how to design stuff if you intend on entering a creative industries context. I couldn't tell you about Art though. I think the secret there is maybe to study how to kill the barriers which hold you back? Designers tend to like barriers and rules as it helps us take shortcuts.
@@adsjj1 Actually I believe too that if you at least understand the intent of your art it's a hell of a lot easier to create stuff as you at least have an end-goal for the statement you wish to make, but tbh that's a very modernist way of thinking... It's actually why I ended up going down the graphics route, because I seriously enjoy solving problems with creative tools. But it all depends too. I think some art history books would be a great start, and especially books on postmodern art and design movements. I know that pretty much the nut of Postmodern art is that the snake constantly eats and criticises itself. It's why there's so many counter and counter-counter movements in postmodern art.
@@rtmpgt That's really interesting. Yeah I actually initially went down the design route as a 'safer option' but have found that it just doesn't excite me in the same way. Still definitely worth having a good understanding of both though.

Not many people's houses were bombed in Iraq in 2003, not with civilians in them, artillery though is another story. People don't realise how hazardous artillery is, and during the invasion at least they used much more than bombs. Unrelated yeah but just so you know.
