What's your thoughts on the V10? Is this one a winner or another in the ewaste pile? Corrections: The '+' button and 'dpad left/right' will adjust volume, so you don't need to map hot keys. 😜 R36S only has WiFi if you plug in a dongle, it is not built in.
The only minor gripes I have with the V10 and it's not a dealbreaker, is that it doesn't have direct physical volume keys and a menu button. You have to hotkey for volume, brightness, menu. With the ANBERNIC RG28XX, you get a menu button and an actual volume button which helps a bunch when operating the handheld. I also wish the speaker was a little louder on the V10. My Max2 has a much louder speaker even though it's a single speaker as well. Other than that, I still like my V10.
Stubbs, I'm still shocked that Powkiddy is responsible for releasing this quality and affordable handheld. Maybe they're tired of being the butt of everyone's jokes. 😉
The screen is a big trade off though my V10 has vertical banding that can be seen in some games like in Pokemon game load menu. That is because every 4 horizontal pixels, there is 1 pixel that is brighter, so it creates a white vertical band. It honestly bugs me a little after I saw it, I can't unsee it now...but now I understand why the price is cheaper, they must have gotten those screens for cheap.
@@STR82DVD I have no idea why no one is talking about it. I am wondering if I just got a bad screen or if this is a problem that people overlook. Because I pay attention to fine details when playing retro games, I look for these types of things because I want pixel perfect emulation. I'm afraid to order a 2nd one and have the same problem...
I picked this up on launch because I wanted a dedicated GBA machine and this definitely fits the bill! I have a PowKiddy RGB30 for most everything else and love that too. Great video! Glad I found your channel!
There was an additional $5 off coupon early on. At $34.99 shipped with no tax and free shipping to the US it was definitely an impulse buy. Compared to other PowKiddy devices I've had I was surprised by the quality. Great GBA only device. Had similar cramping issues initially because I was holding it more like a Miyoo mini plusi that I'm used to. Once I got used to it and adjusted my grip I didn't have that issue anymore..
Your Celesting has improved again!! I'm glad you seem to mostly like this little gem! I absolutely love it for GBA! 💚 I get lost in the games so easily here, and that's what it's all about!
I had the system on the floor a few feet away to charge it near an outlet. I was unaware that the unit plays short clips of games when idle for a few minutes. The V10 started playing a clip from Splatterhouse 2 on the Genesis/Mega Drive and scared half to death lol.
Another high quality review from Stubbs. I'll be honest; I wasn't terribly interested in this device before this video. It's true. However, I'm now kind of interested. It legitimately looks neat and apparently the quality is good. Is this evidence that Powkiddy is beginning their Hyundai arc? Hyundai the automaker was not exactly known as a purveyor of good cars back in the day. They were cars, so they had that going for them at least, and they were much cheaper to buy than the competition. Occasionally they were even good enough. Then sometime in the late '90s Hyundai began to make an effort to steadily improve the quality and design of their products. Today they, along with sister brand Kia, are very respectable choices for people from all walks of life, not just for people with double digit credit scores who really don't want to ride the bus anymore. I see Powkiddy in a similar light. They were cheap and bad; but now they're affordable and good. One might just end up in my neighborhood. Also, thanks for recommending "BackTrack". I'm not sure if it's an obscure title; but, I'd never heard of it before and it looks like silly fun. I'm sure it's probably on my R36S's ROMs card, so I'll be giving it a whirl after I hit send on this comment.
I love the V10 ..mainly for GBA play and pretty much everything else works great too! Love it so much I have another on the way, price point is a steal! Portmaster also works fantastically with a wifi adaptor and usb c adaptor! And another win for pico8 play!
Speaking of Powkiddy, the only retro handheld gaming console I have is the Powkiddy X55, and I love it more than life, but since it's my only handheld, am I wrong to say it's the only 1 I need...🤔🎮♥️
I have the X55 and its pretty great, however, I am always interested in finding something even more pretty great. What has your experience with N64 been? I mostly play GBA and PS1 so I don't have much experience but N64 emulator doesn't seem set up very well.
@torq21 I've only played a bit of N64, it's not perfect, and it's definitely a compromised experience, but with some tweaks you can enjoy some of the Catalog, I stick to legend of Zelda.
I'm simply not buying a device of this caliber to play high end games this sounds like a great GBA device. I never find clicky buttons a problem I'm not to worried about that. I have seen the V10 for as low as $38 64gb model.
this is an absolute steal for $35 (what i paid). although, i admit that a higher resolution 4:3 device is better for retro gaming overall. still, for something as niche as borderless integer scale gba, this is a wonderful compromise. the buttons are solid, the comfort is good by vertical handheld standards, it runs arkos, there isn't much to complain about really. then again, i did spend $12 on a wifi chip to download box art and port master, so maybe i'm overselling its low price a bit. but honestly, this is perfect for gba while having solid performance for other systems at a budget price. if the rg351p had a reiteration or was cheaper, i'd definitely choose it on comfort alone. but it's hard justifying a higher price for a screen resolution that's really only good for gba
Traveling with mine this week. God it is so comfy compared to the Miyoo Mini+ cause of the wideness and the buttons feel so so good for me. That D-Pad might be mushy for some but it's perfect. Toned down the clicky noises of the triggers with the RG35XXSP tape trick. Mine has some vertical lines through all the display which is unfortunate but still an absolute GBA machine, love it :))) Might be my favorite so far.
Ah that's awesome to hear! Not about the vertical lines though, it might be worth asking for a replacement there. I'll have to try the tape trick, thanks!
@@retrohandhelds Thanks ! Just like the RG35XXSP, putting some square tapes might help to dampen the sound (I believe there was already some tape on mine but not on the switches directly, they were on the buttons side). I opened mine specifically cause the L2 was surprisingly quiet compared to the others so I applied tape here and there until all the buttons were more or less to my liking. It's a bit tedious and scary at first cause opening it up is pretty hard. It's clipped at a lot of points but not the corners so gently with a plastic pry tool is key. Even with the plastic pry tool though it did get some scuffs where I lifted to separate the shells so yeah, slow and steady :)) Going through some hoops but contacting Powkiddy directly, they're offering me another screen but when I opened up the device, had no clue how to remove it 🤔 We'll see 😅 Cheers c:
Emulation Station, a common front end used on ArcOS devices, allows you to easily hide systems you don't care about. You can also select in Options to have it specifically start inside of the game list. At least that's how my R36S is. Things should work similarly with the V10.
The closest your going to get to that is the Anbernic 40XX H or the Anbernic RG35XX H they use a H700 chip with is more modern than the chip in the V10
Another awesome video/review there Stubbs, so I ask again, what gives you the right to be so awesome, and how dare you make us want more Devices we don't need.
