Check out the first look review of Monsters and Memories with Mitchmanix here: ua-cam.com/video/8YxYDaZAg5o/v-deo.html
Just image all the MMOs that we've never heard of because they fizzle out well short of what the M&M team have accomplished. Massive praise must go to the Monsters and Memories team for reaching a point that other projects can only dream of. 👏👏
I think you can see a lot of that in what we get from financials, like GW3 and EQ3 which are in "ideation" and the Riot MMO. Financials are why we know about two of those, no actual announcement. Some other devs have talked about the countless MMOs that have been started and killed off before they get too far.
Monsters and Memories should absolutely feel supremely proud of getting to the stage of even having a stress test, let alone putting out a roadmap like this and a plan.
Taking shots at the human only MMOs. I LIKE IT!
Just the fact they have playable fantasy races has me interested.
I'm ultra hyped for Monsters and Memories!
I was hype into I seen , it's going too be release before 2026 ..? Such awhile from now
Since Brad passed away I lost interest in Pantheon. I am however super excited for this.
I used to be the biggest Pantheon fan. I used to be unapologetically fanboy about it, but it's exhausting, man. They've spent YEARS bouncing between one idea and another and if you say anything critical, a sea of people just come at you with "It's a small team and they're making an MMO!".
This is beyong huge and will be the beginning of a shift in the MMO industry. So proud of the team for making it this far and look forward to seeing this world come to life!
I majorly disagree. I'm tired of all of these half-developed, lazy ass, NEVER-GONNA-BE-RELEASED- "mmos" coming out claiming to be the "spiritual successor" of Everquest. It's starting to feel like a money grift to get garbage out the door and on their resume. None of these games even come close, and them even being mentioned in the same breath is a stain of the legacy on something they could never hope to recreate. Everquest was amazing for so many reasons, and a huge part of that was the time period it was released and the different way that games were played back then. Even a great game will never capture what we had with Everquest. And these devs are milking people dry trying to sell a pipedream.
Why don't you swing by one of aLovingRobots twitch streams and talk to him yourself. He was a lead developer for EverQuest at SOE and is friends with most of the OG team. Also, they're not asking for money - it's self funded at the moment despite all the fans asking to donate. His vision is to create the game he wants to play.
The entire M&M team live streams their development process as they chat with the fans. I'm sure they'd be happy to have you since you're an EQ fan like the rest of them before jumping to conclusions.
@@ClassNCoolI might be wrong, but I *think* what he's trying to communicate is that nothing can be like EverQuest in its early days, because people have changed.
I understand his point. Looking around at the proliferation of mobile games that prioritize instant gratification via a monetized pay-to-win system, I see a LOT of people who have successfully trained themselves to believe the dopamine hit from a quick transaction is worth more than the deep satisfaction of figuring out something for the first time, and going through Hell to get it done.
And he's kinda right. Those people ARE all over the place, and if M&M tries to do the "everything to everyone" thing, it will absolutely crash and burn. The times when an MMORPG could pull in a million subscribers is long gone; truthfully, it only ever happened ONCE, with WoW, and the greatest lie the industry ever told itself was that THIS was the new norm, when it was actually an aberration.
I also think M&M has done right by focusing on the kind of game it wants to be, picking out a specific type of player (those who are dedicated, loyal, are able and willing to make a long-term commitment to a video game) and be everything THAT TYPE OF PLAYER wants it to be. That's not just achievable, that's good business sense.
We're the reason EQ is still here, 25 years later. Heck, we raise our KIDS up, playing the game with us. The community has become much smaller now than it was initially, but a lot of that stems from DPG's dogged insistence on maintaining a plethora of Live servers that dilute the populace and spread it all over the place, to the point where they had to introduce a new mechanic to let people hire mercenaries to mimic the people they once would have grouped with.
Hopefully, since M&M is created by a lot of the people involved with EQ's successes, you guys have learned a lot more about what makes a game succeed than the pitiful handful of shallow observations I can come up with, which may not even be correct.
I, for one, fully intend to give you that chance to show me. Very much looking forward to experiencing your world, and throwing myself into it the same way I did EverQuest, way back in 1999. More than likely, I'll find a lot of the same types of players there; maybe even the same actual people. 😀
@ClassNCool First off, I appreciate a well put together response. But after that I gotta say, I'm not jumping to conclusions. Obviously most of my frustration with the money and the donating is directed towards Pantheon. I'm aware it's different people. But I didn't name these guys specifically. I'm not jumping to any conclusions, I've watched him stream. I've seen this gameplay. And it's just not any good in my opinion. I still play project 99 everquest, I still play WoW, I've played every mmo and dungeon crawler in between. I know the feel that we all crave for these games. I've listened to the 3hr "updates" every month for a year on end from Pantheon. I've watched M&M for a solid period of time. I've seen everything released on Ashes of Creation. I scoured the internet for every update on EVERQUEST NEXT that I could find. And none of these games are even coming close. I can appreciate what they're trying to do, and maybe my frustration shouldn't be so much with these devs as it should be with every content creator in this space claiming "spiritual successor".
But regardless, I don't feel that MMOs are in a good space right now. I don't think developers know what the next "thing" is to push them forward. I still think that after 40 years there are basic concepts of expansions, the leveling journey, keeping content relevant while alts aren't annoying, gearing, that elude them (and us) to this day. And while the genre is literally dying, outside of classic WoW barely keeping it afloat, every dev is looking into the past for a mystical feeling that can't be duplicated, and every attempt to do so just looks bad.
Go look at gameplay from M&M, Pantheon, Ashes, and a few others who's names are escaping me, but other trailers for other smaller MMOS that have been released in the last 2 years, and take still screenshots from them, mix them up and try to tell me what game they're from. It'd be almost impossible. They all look the same, same graphic design more or less, same clunky movement, same dead game. And I'd rather be optimistic but how many times do we get burned before we just accept it.
I feel the frustration. Seeing the track record on MMOs there isnt high hopes for anything catching on anymore. Its such a huge venture to get something remotely fun and playable out the door. Well there is always hope but its such a toss of the coin whether it will be worth playing or not
Went and had a look at their site for monsters and memories. it actually look really good, even the art style looks cool, the characters have like an old fantasy puppet kind of look to them.
They have a very distinct artstyle. I've grown to like it and can't wait to see what else they add. The wood elven city art looks awesome.
Im going to play.
I pitched this release method to Chris Rowan on Twitter years ago. He even liked the comment. Its basically what Minecraft did but just with game sales and constant updates and releasees. But this is a MMO and you need the server cost fees.
This team actually seems to have a great handle where they are going and how to do it! I wish more money was behind them to help them achieve their goals I hope the game is successful!
I played the stress test. This game is everything I've ever wanted. No microtransactions of any kind and it felt like the original EQ.
Does it run on iOS and Android?
Game looks great but with only $150 left over at the end of the month after my rent, bills, groceries, gas, and other expenses that come up I doubt I'll be playing it. Looks awesome though and I love the concept of it!
@RainbowSun3043 $150 a month in discretionary spending. Setting aside 10% of that discretionary monies to pay a subscription that gives you 1,200 hours of access to a game for that month isn't a bad call.
@@WhyYouAskingMe what 30 day month has 40 hours per day to play? Still agree with your premise.
@@michaelswenson6599 by playing efficiently. Get 40 hours of work done in 24 hours.
o shit this is from a loving robot? ive watched his everquest dev interviews the guy actuly gives a shit this is good news yall should check out his youtube channel
He's a very nice guy, he did an interview with the Ember's Adrift devs recently, too. Really enjoyed his interview talking about EQNext.
I cannot wait for this. This is our only chance for a modern EQ early 2000s MMORPG. This is it guys!!!
It definitely has the feel of a late 90s early 2000s mmo intricately tied to that DnD style. They're making some awesoem stuff over there.
It took me a minute to realize that Early Access is basically what blue is/was to P99. And when that is alll "done", the green equivalents will be released.
YES!! I am rooting so hard for these guys - this absolutely something Pantheon should be doing! Everyone should be allowed to play/test all the time during these seasons. I'm sure that people, like myself, who pledged 7 or so years ago, did not think it would be this long before release, never mind Alpha or Beta. In that way, they really let down their backers, everyone should be allowed access at this time (edit - sorry, went on a bit of a ProtF rant there... damn you, Redbeard, stop posting so many great vids so fast).
Monsters & Memories is definitely the game I am most looking forward to.
Embers Adrift is also very good if you haven't tried it. Thanks for the update.
No it isn't.
Hell yeah!
Hell yeah!
oh man! Can't wait to be able to play it! (even if i have to wait) Thank you for making the video! it shows how to get our hands on it !
Of course! Soon as I saw the update I was excited to cover it.
Awesome!! Can't wait!
This is so awesome! Super hyped!
Woohoo, I'm hyped for this one too. Like you I'm deeply invested in M&M and Pantheon - I've had fun in both so far in my limited play tests. Thank you for all you do!
HYPE! This roadmap is a thing of beauty.
Now my goal in life is to stay alive long enough to get to 2026
Been following this game , as a recent p99 player this game looks to be one I'll be enjoy for a long long while v
Honestly all I ever wanted was a Everquest style MMO with the focus on grouping , soloing difficulty, mix of open world and instanced content with updated graphics and interesting, meaningful horizontal and vertical leveling systems. I am not sure enough people will be willing to pay a monthly sub for the game. I"d be willing to pay a box price or one time purchase fee.
I think you'll enjoy monsters and memories from what I've gotten to play. Hopeful we get some more testing soon.
I am beyond excited to hear this. This is amazing news.
Excited!
M&M is the ONLY new mmo im excited about..the rest like Pantheon and Ashes ect....are ok to hope for something to do..M&M I plan to play for as long as it's up as long as it keeps on being faithful!
Was an awesome stream! lots of answers to questions we had :) and making fun of "Shawn 'pinky swears' that X,Y and Z well be added"
I enjoyed the November stress test and I'm excited for this announcement!
Duuuuuuuude, omg! Definitely exciting news! Pantheon and M&M are both going in great directions, they're both my top MMO's I'm looking forward to as well. Very encouraging for both.
I'm feeling hopeful! Also wondering where I'm going to find an extra pocket of time to exist in for 2026.
After playing beta last week, I think Pantheon is pretty bad. The combat is fun, but for as long as this game has been being developed, I feel they are leaps and bounds back form where they should be. I back to having little hope for it.
I haven't played this game at all, that said, I'm really looking forward to this. Thanks for the update, RED! 👍
Love the lighting in this game, can't wait for early access. :D
Dude I'm seeing blue spell effects from Everquest, epic!
I am so excited about Monsters and Memories. If this team can pull this off I will be so happy!
ill happily pay 15 dollars a month for no micros, cant wait to see the troll race! Troll shaman FTW!
My wife would also pay 15 a month to avoid a micro, but here we are
@@RyanKWilliamsonzing
I’m pumped for this Flynn!
Me too!
Great video sir
Playing now on p99 green just started . Waiting for the next everquest in a few years.. having a ball on p99....nothing else
Fucking pumped!
Really cant wait to play this game
I am just going to say it red, I am more looking forward to Monsters then pantheon ..... oh my I said it, can't take it back
I have been following Pantheon for 4-5 yrs. Was super excited by the vision. However they lost me when the went from great looking realistic graphics to this childish look they have now. Very disappointed.
I am with you, Monsters and Memories and Pantheon are the games I am most hopeful for.
I have followed Pantheon for about 4, maybe ,5 yrs. They lost me when they went to this cartoon, hand drawn art style. Looks childish and wasted a lot of time they invested with awesome graphics and lighting effects now gone.
I have high hopes for this Game
New years resolution roll a good solo/support type and prepare for lack of sleep due to m@m
Awesome 😃
I'm hoping this gets a lot of traction
Me too!
This game puts Pantheon to shame. Hands down!
Not to steal the spot light from this game, because I want this game like last week, but have you heard anything about Evercraft? Looks interesting and figured it would be right up your alley. So to speak.
GT
This game feels more like EQ than EQ! Cant wait!!!
Will Monsters and Memories be on Steam when they decide to release it, or will it be a download from their own website?
No plans for a Steam release right now.
Ok thank you I will just get it from the website.@@zukansculpts
this has me so fucking hyped
This has to be successful. There’s too much at stake. The bleak future of the MMORPG could be drastically altered for the better if this team succeeds in its mission.
Early access absolutely should be followed by a reset
Day 1 baby let's go
LFG
Lets be honest, Pantheon is not going in the good direction.
What makes you say that?
@@Redbeardflynn at this path, its not gonna happen. I keep hope, but realistically it simply cannot happen in a reasonable time frame at the current path.
In other words, they don't even have a final proof of concept yet. Wake me in about 10 years.
After trying out pantheon and testing all the work they've done over the last 10 years of development all I can say is I'm so disappointed and hype is dead. Hoping monsters and memories success.
I think they are making a mistake by charging the same (or more) monthly sub as other well established games.
If you value your product to a X standard, many customers will want that X +1. Id rather give a 45-50$ even ++Support the creators edition or w.e with a sub around 5-8.
They probably already did their marketstudy and with the amount of estimated players would require that number to acheive their capital goal.
I am just giving my opinion with little data I have/know. Cheers Mr. Redbearflynn
15 bucks is about the standard
I think the main difference here will be no box or microtransactions and the audience they're targeting will likely be fine with the $15 a month since the mmos they're currently playing cost that with the addition of a box price and microtransactions.
Ember's Adrift did drop their sub fee though, there's some thought process behind indie mmos needing to lower their price because its hard to compete against MMOs with 10-20 years of content and budgets extreme magnitudes larger. The other side of it would be cost to operate being lower too potentially letting them scale.
It's a decision I'm glad I don't have to make, I just make video press button ;)
It could be a good game, but unless a release is a week away, I don't get excited for it. Wasted energy.
wtf why do they let bards wear all armor, you cant play instruments in heavy armor, dumbest thing eq ever implemented.
Heavy Metal? 😉
@@RedbeardflynnHa! Good answer! 😂
Because bards get agro like mad so they need some protection.
Idk sounds like the bard took a feat for heavy armor proficiency.
15 $ SUB? 2 MORE DOLLARS THAN FFXIV? ok dude... yeah
How do you suggest a game developer pay things like payroll, benefits, server costs, etc? The fact that the original $15 sub has not been raised in 25 years is exactly why we have micro transactions. You are going to pay either way. I prefer to pay up front and keep mtx out of my games.
FFXIV costs $14.99 a month if you don't multi-month subscribe, making it the same cost. It also has a box fee and MTX. $15 has been standard for decades for MMOs but there aren't really any left that don't have either a box fee and/or some form of microtransactions.
@@Redbeardflynn the base sub is 12.99 sorry but going above the price of well stablished AAA mmo is just aiming to failure
@@cuneoluis that's if you buy multiple months. It's 14.99 if you pay for 30 days. Same with wow. You only drop down to 12.99 if you sub for 180 days at a time. A year for wow.
And both of these games also include additional transactions be it the box fee of the game or the micro transactions they include like story skips for ffxiv wow token for wow...etc.
This is all for the standard sub.
Ffxiv also has a "entry" sub which I believe is what you're referring to which I'd 12.99 but limits you to one char per server and 8 total. They recently expanded that restriction on the server basis in 2022 but kept the max total of 8.
Ffxiv starter addition is $20, the complete edition is $50. Add those in and you're paying roughly the same or more than 15 a month for the first year.
I wouldn't call it a loss at all. It's been the standard for ages, but what's happened over the last decade and a half (which allows ffxiv to have an entry level) is adding in micro transactions. If you don't include those in the convo it's impossible to assess value. Even if you don't personally buy them.
😂😂😂😂 i would never pay 15 a month for that.
I am still not fond of the name. Monsters and Memories sounds like the name of a memoir.
Another dead in the water “MMO” made by an “indie” team who will never finish it. I’ll check it out after Chronicles of Elyria comes out!
Gwad dam that Chronicles game been in development sense 2016 8 years 😳 ? Wow starting too lose any enthusiasm for mmorpg or mmo , if they literally take a half a decade too development..? the dev shouldn't mention it unless it's 90% done .
Clickbait title. Too early to make a massive claim like “Spiritual Successor”, and it’s subjective regardless. The art style doesn’t look like anything I, or any of my other friends that play EQ prefer. Appreciate the optimism, but way too soon my friend. Regardless, I’ll never understand the extreme desire for a successor being that I don’t have many issues with EverQuest as it is. 🤷🏻
Probably because EQ is a dead game that most people don’t enjoy for a reason anymore? It doesn’t hold up well.
@@brandonkruse6412 I would say that your perspective is flawed and that Everquest is booming at the moment with an estimated active player base well over 10k. There has already been a “successor”, look at WoW.
This is so great, I'm actually excited for the first time in....... I don't remember how long😁. Good thing I started a character on project Quarm a few weeks ago, so that will definitely make wait time go by faster. Can't wait to play M&M, but I feel the wait will be worthed.
Asherons call will forever be the better mmo of its time. EverQuest was barebones garbage compared to the lore and game mechanics of AC. They need to remake Asherons call, however I feel the quest development may be lacking considering devs are lazy as shit these days.
