Definitely, not many, if any can sing so many genres, adapt to the styles from decade to decade and all round epic performer with so much love and passion and just there for the music and fans.
Had no idea the talented bugger could play the piano. WTH? I knew he played guitar but not accompany himself on the piano. My god he was talented, and so nice. Such a beaut bloke. ❤❤❤
My wife and I saw him in Brisbane Australia, 15 years ago, I've been a musician for 30 years and I think I had a spiritual experience, I was in tears, Thankyou John ❤❤❤
John went to my school, as a kid you would never have thought he would turn out like this. He was a shy kid but he had a great family environment that spurred him on. Hope he is on the mend now, he didn't deserve to get cancer.
I keep saying this, but it fascinates me watching your reaction to him and it makes me feel special because we grew up with his music living in Australia, and we just see him as the standard.
Without all the huge instrumentals of the better known 80s gigs, this clip shows the raw power, class and range of John's voice. One of the best singers on the planet, ever ❤
I cannot express the joy it gives me, to witness the great John Farnham being celebrated with such profound love. I'm old enough to remember his first ever single, as "Johnny" Farnham - and how much he struggled to be taken seriously, almost giving up at one point. ❤❤❤
Never really liked him until he came to Geraldton, Western Australia and gave free entrance to his concert which was in a large tent and he sang "Your The Voice " and he had the bagpipes. It was an absolutely fantastic performance. Have loved him ever since. So pleased to see a picture on Facebook enjoying Christmas with his family after having a long time in hospital having treatment for a nasty cancer. Hope he is able to sing again 😊
Absolutely agree. Well said. So honoured to have grown up with his voice in my ears my whole life. Such a blessing. To top it off, not only his voice, but his whole being, the personality of this man gives you hope that there are still humble people out there that embody to very essence of humility and kindness. You couldn't find a nicer guy to sit and chat with, no matter how big a star he is he would take the time to talk to you. Not only that, but the way he would speak to you was like talking to an old friend. He makes you feel so comfortable. Just the whole package. Love the bloke.
John has certainly left us with an amazing legacy!!! I don't think he'll be back on stage singing after such an invasive surgery but you never know!!!! He is still the best vocalist I've ever heard!!
John Farnham hands down the Greatest singer in the World. Its so amazing that so many people especially from the US through online reactions get to hear this incredible voice. I always look forward to your reactions to the man we here in Australia call THE VOICE. I agree with you that it would be fitting that the Grammy awards recognised John for his life time of incredible music and voice. John is a Australian treasure and Icon who is recognised by his peers World wide. Singers and bands from all over the World when performing in Australia want to perform with John. I find it truly incredible to hear them all want to sing John's songs with him. Thankyou again for showing the world John's incredible voice and talents in all music genre's Happy Newyear to you and your family Cheers Jeff Australia 🇦🇺
John is my favourite singers of all time. Indeed one of the best. This performance was from the New Zealand Telethon, a much loved charity fund-raiser where viewers phone-in cash donations. Australia also has regular Telethons, with multiple performers, musicians and comedians give of their time freely to help raise money. Telethons still happen here today, but with tech donations come via many ways, not just the phone. John on this night was one of many performers giving of their time, so he was performing without most of his crew or band.
I just love how you still get surprised everytime you hear john sing. And that right there is why we should all agree John Farnham is one of not THE Best singer to ever live. This was an impromptue performance at a Telethon in NZ ...cold and without a warm up. Even most of the best vocalists would struggle to do that. Some of my favourite videos are of him during interviews, when he wasnt prepared to sing and when he is put on the spot, he just opens up his mouth and out it comes. No warm up!!!....no problem!!!! ❤
The Telethon's here are quite early in the day too Dominic... so the man wakes up with that voice... I used to love seeing him on TV shows and they'd always put him on the spot to sing... never said he'd rather not.. .never missed a note... He is just a joy... Thank you and Merry Christmas to you and your family !
I think a person on stage alone with a single instrument and just bloody killing it, is a true measure of talent....then of course you have voices like Farnsey and shit is just on a whole other level...
Farnsey is a guy that just unites people, where ever there is a need for help John turns up and puts his whole heart and soul in to it. Bless him ❤🙏 I also rate him in my top 5 👍
After watching this 2 or 3 times it dawned on me that John was accompanying himself without any other instruments or voices backing him. Just John and the piano. I have never seen that before. Thank you for sharing. Have a Happy New Year everyone 😘💕🎇🎆🎉🥳🥂🇦🇺.
For the best example of John as entertainer with the audience in the palm of his hands, look for he version titled ‘Help Beatles (High quality)’ it’s a different live arrangement and shows what a master singer and entertainer John is. The version where he’s wearing a black shirt!
Anything Farnham is awesome, but I think the one with mso is the best version but this is great. John is the best male vocalist of all time. Just the agility, range, mic technique, stage presence, just everything is perfect.
This is a telethone. A fundraiser for ambulance and rescue helicopter. The donations are run across the bottom of the tv screen. Sometimes the guests will be asked to do something, and the donations flow in, if they do. I saw one of him being taught the Haka. Maori challenge.
Held in high esteem, here in Australia..a born natural..and used to smoke two packs of cigarettes a day...back in the day. He has a vocal range, and strength ,that vocalist can only wish that they had..and he has his ego in check..a humble bloke..and a known joker..a comedian.
I do really appreciate an accoustic cover, and this one is right up there as one of the best. By the way Nick, I hope you get better soon. Sending healing thoughts your way.
I'm glad you enjoyed this live performance of "Help". But, you should really check out other live performances of this song from John Farnham, particularly the live version of Whispering Jack concert of 1987, and the 1990 performance in Melbourne. Those ones are the best one that will blow you away.
As an Australian, I've come to almost neglect John and some of the others you have reacted to over the my life. Growing up hearing them every day and even seeing both of them live multuple times it, kinda dulls the specialry of them. Watching you first discover John and Jimmy right up till this point have really helped put it in perspective and make me really admire both of them again and many more
John has always been someone who has never, ever needed any sort of vocal mixing! His voice was always pure power. How many artists today can say they can sing like this live? They are all great in the studio with all the magic that mixers can do, but live? Nope… not many at all!
Ok, so after doing some checking you can buy or rent the special documentary Finding the Voice on UA-cam Movies. Of course most of us Aussies have seen it but it's nice to know that those of us that haven't ... can. Oh and while I'm here, check out his album Uncovered (circa 1980). Some fabulous songs that don't get as much airplay due to being before Whispering Jack. And I still love the way you are blown away by John's voice
@breevincent7067 yes, I forgot about that one! To be fair, I had recorded Chain Reaction off the telly on VHS as a kid and watched it SO many times, I almost recall it song for song and word for word

A couple of songs worth checking have been mentioned below, plus these are worth a look also. The reason you haven't heard of him is because the US music industry is a closed little club. Lol Black Dog. ua-cam.com/video/F2Yi6TVi-sU/v-deo.html Besides having the best voice ever, JF can adjust his tone, pitch, volume, to match the person he is singing with to either match them or sing just under them depending on who's the head line act, he will even back himself down when he is the head line to give others their moment to shine, and if my ears were sensitive enough, I wouldn't be surprised if he could vary his vibrato, timbre and all of those other things that voices can do so he could accentuate the other singers.
Nothing beats Help with the MSO. He sounds a bit rushed here overall, not projecting quite the same either because he's sitting. It's Farnesey so still bloody brilliant but not near his absolute best mate.

I can agree! He already know who he is and I’m surprised he has never gone through his discography yet 😂

I love that he went across the pond to help our New Zealand family raise money in a Telethon. He always had a huge heart and a magic voice.
He often came to WA for our telethon as well. First time I saw his was at a telethon 1969 I think
Yes Nik, one of the best singers in the world and one of the best covers, respect from France ❤
I have heard him sing all my life and I am so glad that he is finally getting the recognition that he deserves.
John went to my school, as a kid you would never have thought he would turn out like this. He was a shy kid but he had a great family environment that spurred him on. Hope he is on the mend now, he didn't deserve to get cancer.

I totally agree. We grew up with this great singer and i think alot of Aussies just took his ability for granted. What a legend he is.

His voice is next level. No one comes close, John is such a phenomenal performer

The version in his black shirt is where he sings the Beatles version for the first half and then his version in the second half. It is magnificent.
Yes, I love that one too. There really is no way to choose a 'BEST' they are all brilliant, from a born entertainer and singer. The GOAT
Yes! My absolute favourite version

Pure AND grit! Impeccable!
You are the best. John Farnham is the best…. Pure ,unappreciated talent.
An insurmountable talent. You need to hear this song with him and the Melbourne symphony orchestra. Stunning.
1972 concert in Melbourne, especially his "Yesterday" cover - check it out.
Just his voice and a piano💖
That was phenomenal. John Farnham is one of, if not, THE best in the business. 😜❤️🎼👍🏼

Thanks Melissa. I’ve never seen that video before.
This man did not need a microphone!
The most extraordinary thing about this video, which no-one picked up on, is that this is the only time we have seen John playing an instrument!
Have seen him playing the keys singing this in another concert, and I’ve seen him playing the guitar a few times, including live.
See if you can find "The Time Has Come" from Chain Reaction concert, he plays guitar there. Keys also on this song but on Jack's Back (I think)
@@lwylie7 he plays guitar on "The Time Has Come" at the Romeo's Heart tour 1996. Amazing performance.

Out of all the versions I've heard the MSO one is the most polished and certainly the most dramatic with the epic energy the orchestra brought. This version is very similar in its phrasing but obviously it's much more relaxed as his "party trick because it's the only thing (he) can play on the piano."
It's hard not to compare and I try not to in a negative way because truly it's not a competition but if it were John would win just sayin.
