I love how Tent is still meta despite the top weapon shutting it down (Pencil destroys launched tent, 1400 HP, in just over 2 charges) TENT PLAYERS STAY WINNING BAYBEE
Tent's effect is that it makes matches slower-paced. Every time the meta becomes too fast, it becomes popiular, and every time the meta slows down it falls off. Current cooler+zooka meta is the fastest it's been since S1 QRSJ, and trust me, if S1 had Tent, it would've been used back then too.

This gave me some "Hello Internet! Welcome to Splat Theory" vibes, analizing some data and using tha math. The only thing missing was the LORE, Chara where's the LORE
This harsh strict meta honestly seems like its a problem with the obsession to be zones only. Zones is probably pencils best mode due to its huge paint and having tact in zones is huge because you always have to come back to mid and so coming back go mid as fast as possible with tact is way more beneficial than let's say respawning and stopping a rainmaker push. Idk it just seems weird that people complain about pencil then ignore the 3 other modes where pencil simply isn't as good. Of course there's gonna be a stricter meta when you define yourself so strictly by choosing one mode exclusively.
The other modes are actually far worse in comp viability, pencil is still picked everywhere, and cb/rm makes zooka even stronger via having a giant glowing target on you. It doesnt matter the mode when pencil shuts down everything matchup wise besides zf. I wish it was an answer honestly but its not and dealing with kraken cheese or rm map quality is honestly a worse exp to me.
Honestly the only solution is to HEAVILY nerf pencil, like we're talking Splatoon 2 Dynamo level nerfs, nerf Tacticooler in both duration and effect, and nerf Zooka's explosion/indirect damage to 45.
@@MrEnzio777 It does not need to go that far. Remember that we've seen what the game looked like before Tacticooler and it is way better with Tacticooler being meta. (although keeping your after death is a bit much). Pencil just needs to be nerfed enough so that it's picked for filling both backline and support as it should be rather than being the best in both support and backline individually. So yeah a heavy nerf but not Dynamo levels of nerfing, it shouldn't be gone completely. As for zooka once again it was quite weak before being able to 2-shot with an indirect so the indirect damage radius should probably just be decreased instead. Just because something's the meta doesn't mean that it would be bad for the game if other options were used alongside it.
@@probablygeneric429 I think that's where our opinions differ. I feel the only way to FIX Pencil filling both the support and backline role is to completely kneecap the weapon and only buff back one aspect of it because otherwise it is way too overtuned in all 4 modes. It's overpowered not just in Zones but the other 3 ranked modes the comp community decided just don't exist because the terrible map design that Zones is not immune to makes it feel like shooting fish in a barrel. Honestly I feel like these maps were designed for Turf War first then lazily had Ranked layouts slapped on.
@@MrEnzio777they aren't even good turf war maps though. one of turf's key selling points is that if you're bad, you can just paint in a random corner to still contribute. most of these maps don't have enough areas outside of mid to paint in without getting dragged into fights

Same. But it makes sense considering that it's on so few weapons, and on so few notable weapons at that. The only really good Inkjet options are Ballpoint and Rapid Deco, but Ballpoint is bullied by pencil and I reckon Rapid Deco may have a hard time against other midrange picks such as Slosher and Range Blaster. Also, I'd reckon good Snipewriter players are probably pretty proficient at sniping Jets outta the sky, and ditto to the players of the multitude of midrange weapons popular in the tournament, so it really does make sense it wasn't picked much.
jetpack is technically a strong option, but it has a mega losing matchup against all chargers, specifically pencil. if you know the other team isn’t picking a charger, then jetpack is a good idea. but at top level play, you already know everyone is running pencil, and you’re not gonnna pick jetpack in that type of environment
The only good Inkjet weapon is Ballpoint, and Ballpoint is terrified of Snipewriter meta. It can out-lame other chargers, but Snipes can't be out-lamed, if you try to play passively against it it'll just take all of your turf, toss a cooler to recharge and do it again. It's baisically Splat1 Dynamo, except instead of being shut down by backliners, it IS the backliner. We should've got Inkjet on so many weapons but we didn't. Neo Splash, L3D, Custom Goob, Gloog Decos, Custom Blaster/Enperries, every season has Inkjet bait and yet we only got five of them in total, with only two being able to regularly use it of which one is a joke weapon.

Understanding the other team's meta who don't live In the west is more important than credit is given. Understanding those differences and strengths; learning and playing their meta inevitably will eventually show its weaknesses. If there's no obvious weakness, then force them into making mistakes, into playing ways and positions they normally don't find themselves in. Break down the team, and the coordination will fumble.
I watched a video on Jared's channel where Jackpot won a major with vanilla H-3 and the team that they were playing against also used H-3 for the entirety of Grand Finals.

11:49 The inner wrestling fan popped a little for seeing this. Because yeah playing snipewriter literally feels like playing a 99 overall in WWE 2K rn.
As a pretty big nerd, I really enjoyed this more data-focused video, it's cool to see how the meta's doing through weapon usage! The only criticism I have for next time is that the usage rates should be a bit more obvious, it doesn’t really make sense to have the data in a data-focused video only shown for half a second in the corner of the screen.
Good video! I love me a data driven video❤ A few notes that are actionable and don’t require advanced analytics: The total number of games would’ve been great to have a mental base model to compare to. The raw numbers usage of zooka felt like it could be augmented with a discussion on the percent of comps that had at least one zooka for how many comps ran it. Unmirrored winrates. One of the most potent ways to analyze the effect of such a pervasive weapon like zooka, cooler, or pencil is via unmirrored winrates. Of the matches where only one team ran pencil, how often did the team that ran pencil win? It has low data requirements so you don’t need a huge sample size and it’s excellent at driving home the point of why a specific pick was considered obligatory. Overall an excellent video! Advanced analytics could definitely dive even deeper into this tournament, I might give it a go later this month. But major credit to Oliy for gathering and compiling the data, goat status
No Rapid Blaster Deco makes me sad. I guess it is time to move to Range, Blaster or even Slosher or Machine Noveu. Thanks for the analysis and the effort put in this vid!

If stamp got a few buffs I could definitely see wiper making a bit of a comeback (pun intended), it's pretty much the only qr weapon that's surviving in the cooler meta
It's gonna be interesting to see where other levels of gameplay fall in terms of its Meta over time, including Casual. Some weapons I've been seeing a lot in casual play is Enperry and Sploosh, and I think it might stay that way for a while, unless Sizzle Season '24 gives us a pretty interesting kit to work with
Honestly, I’m very surprised that with as powerful as midrange slayer options are, naut wasn’t need at all; 47 has a great zones kit imo and it kills fairly decently, as well as plays into a sensor niche
I’m honestly glad Pencil is good. Maybe not _that_ good but it’s just so awesome of a weapon to me and I’m glad it sees usage. If it gets nerfed (which is probably should) then I hope it at least stays good or relevant
aw crap, a while ago i was trying to make a weapon diversity data thing (and failed and gave up) and now chara’s beaten me to the punch but actually, this is super interesting and i’d love to see future videos looking at data from past majors
I'm sure it's been covered before, but. What makes weapons good together is a comp? Obviously, synergy, but that can mean a lot of things. Compensating for each other's weaknesses, helping to fill holes in party composition/roles, comboing off each other, helping to further each other's strengths.... Obviously, a data-driven meta analysis is not the place to be explaining concepts like "what makes a good comp" but. I dunno, future video idea?
who woud say that when pencil came on, it was so awful and the kit was bad until the bufed the weapon and we realized how actually good the weapon and kit were...being the best weapon in the game for so many months. Is just shocking

Some weapons I've been seeing a lot in casual play is Enperry and Sploosh, and I think it might stay that way for a while, unless Sizzle Season '24 gives us a pretty interesting kit to work with
I’m glad slosher is finally getting its time in the spotlight.
Xenoblade and Balatro music, perfect video
Great vid, I am very glad to see an analytics based video!
A vid full of roguelike's music? Love to see it
I see the absolute cluster of weapons the "tent specialist" Leafi uses and I'm just like "Dang. That's some flexibility to aspire to there."
Something to make note is tacticooler while good in other modes seems especially good in zones
Video 47 of commenting on Chara videos till brella is good
At least we have the solace of Tent being good.
Honestly, I’m very surprised that with as powerful as midrange slayer options are, naut wasn’t need at all; 47 has a great zones kit imo and it kills fairly decently, as well as plays into a sensor niche
This was really good! More of this would be great!
I’m honestly glad Pencil is good. Maybe not _that_ good but it’s just so awesome of a weapon to me and I’m glad it sees usage. If it gets nerfed (which is probably should) then I hope it at least stays good or relevant
Remember when Pencil was Bottom tier?
Good times... Good times...
aw crap, a while ago i was trying to make a weapon diversity data thing (and failed and gave up) and now chara’s beaten me to the punch
but actually, this is super interesting and i’d love to see future videos looking at data from past majors
Lmao love the balatro footage used
Can’t wait for the splatoon 3 meta history… still remember triple splash
It'll just be going from Crab Meta to Pencil Meta and deeming 3/4 of the ranked modes nonexistent. Can do that video in a short.
this video was fun! i’d love to see more of this style of video!
Balatro............ JESUS! would be the crossover of the millenium
THANK YOU for this video Chara
Small note about tent blocking the 1st zooka shot completely thats something every brella can do not anything against tent just worth mentioning
Like the use of balatro very good game
Best composition to me in sz : Pencil, shot, squeezer, slosher.
I think it would be interesting if specials had limits per match this could be used to balance special spam weapons like aerospray
5:09 pfffft Stronkler 😂
Wait what. You included Lil Buddy in Sub usage 😂
Am scared
Balatro, Its everywhere Even the splatoon videos XD
The only thing I want is for that old rock paper scissors meta from splatoon 2 to return
Great video, would love to see more.
I still have a hard time grasping how Snipewriter went from being the least used weapon in the game to the most used
who woud say that when pencil came on, it was so awful and the kit was bad until the bufed the weapon and we realized how actually good the weapon and kit were...being the best weapon in the game for so many months. Is just shocking
I love these data analysis videos.
I hear that Binding of Isaac music!
Aw man, no nautilus
(This is mostly just me thinking it'd be cool to see a weapon I use be used more, not complaining)
