Kraken is a special weapon that gives 8 seconds of invincibility, is primarily useful for taking and controling space, and often gets its value not in the kills it gets but in the disruption it causes the enemy team. Are we entirely sure that this isnt just an inky equivalent of TF2's Übercharge? Joking aside, this is a very useful video that clearly lays out the usefulness of the mighty Kraken beyond lactose dependant degeneracy.
Never realized how much I kamikazed with kraken until now, after watching this I am spending the extra second to run back and am now on a 6-win streak as a result which is rare for me lmao
As for the wall trick there is a lot more to it than just jumping on walls. What you're doing when using the wall trick or Royal Flushing as I like to call it is animation canceling the jump attack by landing. You can do this via entering a grounded state before you would normally land while jumping on flat ground. Squidrolling onto walls is the simplest form of Royal Flushing but also a highly effective form of it. A few other ways to Royal Flush is to jump onto higher elevation, jump up a ledge, or fall from a large enough height to surprise someone on landing. Some Forms even allow you to do 3+ attacks in under a second, like if you were to jump up a ledge and immediately drop down to the edge you just jumped up you can do up to 5 attacks in a second. However this is extremely situational and even harder to actually pull off. (I don't see any reason this would be useful other than to shred unfortunately placed objects like a rainmaker shield.) Not all forms of Royal Flushing are equally effective and all of them are situational at best, and the more situational they get often the harder they are to perform. However there are a very large amount of forms for a large amount of situations where you can Royal Flush that I haven't found or mentioned so get creative.
BATS. Also, I would play kraken if it was on more than one short range weapon, I can't deal with heavy deco it just feels too bad. Tbh if splat brella didn't already have 2 kits that take away its main weapon, kraken would be a great fit for a third kit, as the playstyles and team dependencies are nearly identical.
Oh wow, I wonder who that handsome vShot player at 5:26 holding the Slosher is?? Maybe you should make a team with him 👀👀👀 Seriously though, so glad to see this finally hit the public! Can’t wait to help prove what Kraken can really do together in our future matches.
Super good video !! Really well put together, well narrated, with lots of footage that fits the discussion without repeating. As a silly turf tenta missiles player it's hard for my brain to NOT go "Heehee special bar light up special go brrrr" but I did always want to give the Krak-On Roller in particular a try, maybe I'll do better with it now :)
As someone who has been maining the Krak-On Splat since just about week one of Splatoon to Splatoon 3 now this introspective to the special is extremely good! Old habits die hard, so “I’m popping kraken out of self preservation” brain still kicks in, but otherwise all the notes are still extremely helpful! ❤
I think you missed one of my personal favorite techniques; the body slam. You simply land on an opponent which deals one hit, then jump as soon as you land, dealing the second hit and splatting.
one thing i always do with kraken, mainly due to playing mostly c-liter scope is use the final ¼ or so of the special gauge to retreat to a decent sniping position, and if i can see someone trying to rush me from a distance ill pop kraken and counter-rush them. other than that i have found a few occasions where i get too power hungry (mainly with 96 deco) and forget that kraken has a time limit XD
*looks at thesurus Superb video man kraken is one of my favorite specials in slatoon 3 so having an all in one resource on how to use it is a major help. cant wait to come back to this when the Octo Brush gets its third kit sheldons picks with Torpedo Kraken :P
OH YEAH (sorry for the comment spam) But I just remembered another bit of movement tech I learned from using the special; if you pop kraken on wall it skips the little hop, so you can then swim down from wall onto the floor as you're transforming, which gives you full squid form movement as you're transforming
A fellow Kraken enthusiast :D Edit: I genuinely love Kraken Royale, I consistently play 4 of the 5 current kraken kits, those being roller, heavy, liter, and .96, and I've always known how to use it since it initially came out. On top of that I was genuinely joyous after the krak cheese patch because not only did it remove a braindead application of the special, but it also made it easier to use krak jumps to regroup and stall the opponents with kraken simultaneously which was especially useful on the backline weapons that got krak since they could pop krak in a safe position, then push in with it, which was super effective for covering for as well as providing jumps for a teammate if they went down
Good video! I learned a lot about Kraken Royale. Since it's in Salmon Run, i am able to get some more practice between sets. I would like to see more in depth guides like this for all specials, mains, and subs all across UA-cam.
As someone else who mains 96 deco and has since it released, as well as kraken being my all time fav special this video is so so so awesome for bringing to light just how good this special can be, really good video and I absolutely loved the final tip of being an inkling over octoling, it’s the same way for me so you’re not alone in that it feels easier with inkling.
As an nDapple user, I actually would like some more invincible frames at the start & end 🥲🥲🥲 Or just at the start & let me drop roll my way back or something
I think inkjet is the only special that counters kraken. I’m surprised you didn’t mention it! Going high in the air allows for easy dodges and can punish players trying to push with kraken. It becomes a 3v3 of which special can get more splats and inkjet wins that pretty much everyday of the week. However if kraken is popped early inkjet can react to that and escape. It can then easily punish kraken user with 2 50 damage shots at endlag, so good counter! What if the inkjet uses the special early and kraken uses it after? Well it’s still not the best for kraken, as while it can punish landing, doing so is often results in your death as camping the landing is very predictable, especially if the inkjet recall is in a safe spot. It becomes again a 3v3 where both probably end up trading after it’s over, and inkjet will definitely get more splats than kraken in those scenarios Overall inkjet is pretty much the only good counter to kraken (maybe zip but probably not) and it’s weird how you didn’t mention it
Thank you, I absolutely needed to find a video like this! I struggle a lot with using Kraken to the point that I kept getting demotivated. This video probably saved tons of frustration since I'm very likely gonna one trick CRB like I did in the previous games.
e-liter main and when i saw beakon on custom e-liter I had to play it ...wasn't too excited to see it had kraken though 🥲 every single negative point like using it like a panic option and using it to hop onto the tower I felt so called out on lmao. I appreciate the tips and guide though.
Casual kraken user here I main kraken and haven’t touched ranked since splatoon 2, so I have a bunch of useless and dumb information about kraken To start. The dash attacks charge animation always faces the camera so you swim towards the camera you can swim sideways if you spam the charge Next, the octo kraken has a vastly different design from splatoon 1, in splatoon 1 the only difference was the tentacles In tableturf kraken is a very cheap special card that covers a lot of space, plus it can go to though diangonal gaps
I’ve been needing a video like this for a while 😅 Recently I’ve been playing more and more Custom E-liter and obviously I want to be able to use its special correctly. Also on the inkling vs octoling kraken thing I’m not really sure if there’s a difference I don’t find it hard to tell where I’m going but I’ve also never played as an inkling and used kraken since I’ve been an octoling since they came out in splatoon 2 😅
I don't think you would vibe with chase247. His least favorite weapon is .52 gal (from the weapons I hate video) and he made an entire video bacically hating on kraken in which 35% of his entire argument was just "splatoon bad net code make it laggy"
I've seen that Kraken video, and yeah, let's just say I'm "not a fan". Nothing personal against Chase, of course, I actually agree with a lot of their takes, but in regards to that video, I get the feeling that he probably hasn't used kraken for more than 30 minutes. Just about everything he says in that video is wrong or grossly exaggerated.
I really needed this video because I am going to be a crb main but I only have about 200 wins with Kraken total so I am not skilled with it whatsoever. Thank you!
Kraken has been my favorite special in both games it's been in. Sure, it has some... major... design issues, but it is inherently fun. Now if only it was on one of my main weapons for once lol (Hoping Bamboozler, Bambrella, or Gloogas get it in their 3rd kit if we get them. Would appreciate the ability to use them for self preservation on those weapons lol)
I strive for the skill you have, but Im always too scared to play competitive because I am solo! So I always fall back to Turf Wars.. If you can, can you help me with tips and such to get me BACK into a more competitive Splatoon? I don't like falling behind.
I mean it's not the most groundbreaking advice but just play the game more. Anarchy and X Battles are intimidating for sure, I get that, but you can only get so far if you're too scared to jump into the ring. If you're afraid of playing ranked because losing demotivates you, remember that every loss can be a lesson in its own right. You might not feel like you're getting any better, but trust me, you will.
@@unfunnycesium Sure is. I played for Penn State’s competitive splatoon team during my last 3 semesters in college. I’ve since graduated so you won’t see me around there anymore but I’m still close with many who do still compete for PSU Splatoon
Kracken cheese is still possible just nobody is smart enough to realize how to do it. All you have to do is reach the basket in normal squid form, pop kracken or inkjet or zipcaster and boom your teammates can super jump while you use your special to defend their landing spot.
however, if you’re near enough to the basket to score already, you’d be better off just picking up an extra clam and scoring, not waiting for some teammate to jump in. not to mention the start lag of kraken where you’ll likely just get mowed down before the special even activates
I’m no roller player, but I can say that you can’t go wrong with Swim Speed and Ninja Squid for Roller. If you want more specific builds, you should check out Sendou.Ink, they have popular gear builds for every weapon in the game.
