Alright, time for me to become the comment guy I've played tent competitively for 4 years and reached mid-high level with it, and had plenty of conversations with top players of the weapon, so here's a correction for everything in the video (it's honestly mostly nitpicks, you did a great job for the video mate) -Ink Storm isn't a hard tent counter, it's effective against it but so are all specials, so it's not anything special in that aspect -Tent isn't super common at top level in Japan at time of posting, it's mostly just Chikashi being our warlord that's getting results right now; in the current meta, tent's slowness is disliked by a lot of jp players (according to a top player who speaks Japanese who also plays tent (Tera, if you're curious)). It is worth noting that Japan's tent community is very, very large though -Object shredder on tent isn't as good in Sp3: the way the tent shield works against splash wall is that both hit each other upon contact until only the one with the most hp stands stands. In splatoon 2, main power up allowed to nullify the nerf of 800-->700 hp and with 4 subs, you'd be back to slightly more than 800. At this scale, when both tent shield and splash wall met, if the tent player shot the wall once, the tent shield would lose half of its hp and the wall would be shredded (Also worth noting that the opponent shooting your tent shield in the midst of the tent vs wall interaction can mean your shield shreds and their wall stands). However, at 700 HP, when both wall and tent meet and both players shoot at the other's barrier, both get canceled, and that's not the outcome you want. Yes, you can shred their splash wall if you have the time to shoot it twice when both tent and splash wall hit each other, but good players will always make sure you only have the time to shoot their wall once before both meet. -Note on your note of 2 shields not being possible during Sp2: it actually was! Your shield regenerated so fast that you had the time to shoot and open it WHILE your previous shield was still on the field, still protecting you. It's called "shield streaking", it made tent very very strong, and when it was mostly taken away in the patch of April 2020 alongside the ink efficiency nerf, the weapon fell off quite a bit (but still managed to remain a top tier because of just how bonkers good the weapon is (kinda like squeezer in this game, it keeps getting nerfs and yet it's still the best weapon)). It's still kinda possible in both games, but the window for it is much, much thinner for it and you're vulnerable for a little bit (whereas you weren't pre nerf) -For Sp2 vtent, vtent isn't a support, it's a skirmisher. Its goal wasn't to help maintain turf it was to actively be in the other team's face and keep removing resources from them by making it so they had to constantly fight and shred you or else you'd take free space all the time. The weapon barely used its beakons (removing yourself from the frontline in order to place beakons just wasn't worth it) and played very aggro. The weapon didn't want bubbles for its explosion but for the fact that they're a shield. You would go in an annoying spot, like a splat zone or below their clams basket, bounce your bubbles against a wall and sit in them and regulate the bubbles' hp (shoot it when it's about to get shredded or don't when it's close to being popped) to continue to hold space instead of popping them (the bubbles remained on the map for up to 16 seconds, imagine someone sitting in your zone, preventing you from painting it for that much time ; you actually see this through tent's gear history, first builds had a lot of special power up and played for the bubbles explosion, and at the end of the game no one ran any and instead used it as a means of distraction, survivability and resources commitment). This is also why Sp2 vtent is much stronger than Sp3 vtent, because in sp2, you control your shield's hp, and in sp3, it's the opponents that control it. -And lastly for Sp2 sorella tent: the weapon was kind of all or nothing, it was super busted on most zones maps (namely skipper pavilion and new albacore hotel where the best for it by far), it also had a niche in rainmaker for certain maps like humpback or blackberry rainmaker where bomb rush pushes were really strong (you would shield their plat, your rain goes in it --> enemy shreds the shield to splat your rainmaker --> you then use your bomb rush to instantly pop the rainmaker as soon as it respawned and you would shield the rainmaker again and score more points ; very specific but very strong on the few maps were it worked). It was outclassed by the other 2 tents everywhere else. The wall of text is over, the video was great, subscribe to jacobcats (and me if you want to see more tent content cause I'm pretty sure me, shadow and keen are the only ones who post tent stuff regularly on YT outside of Japan nowadays :D)
yeah i expected to miss some stuff like that, i dont play the weapon at all and havent really in the past so specifics like object shredder use cases are really not gonna be my forte - thats kinda why i tiptoed around stuff like that as i feel anyone who has no idea what tent does can still get an acceptable understanding of the weapon from this video. also, i dont believe i explicitly stated that s2 vtent was the support tenta brella - i think i said stuff like “more supportive” and tried to leave it’s role kind of ambiguous, but it did come across that way and phrasing is one of my biggest flaws in these videos, so i completely understand the criticism. thank you so much for pointing this stuff out (and in such an extensive manner, i cant imagine how long this took lmao) - definitely pinning.
You mentioned “a kit with insane support and synergy potential” but I don’t blame you for any of these mistakes Object shredder in Sp3 and vtent not actually being a support in Sp2 is very unclear stuff (in fact, the game itself tells you that vtent is a support weapon 🫠) I think the fact you’re choosing to remain a bit more ambiguous with stuff you know less of is great! It’s better than saying something false and misleading Seriously tho, the whole video is super clean outside of these nitpicks. Editing, script, structure, visual elements and so on are all top notch. My personal advice for the future is to contact pro players who main the weapon for future guides, I can’t speak for everyone but I know most comp tent players are always eager to lend a hand with projects like yours, so surely it’s the case with other weapon classes, and this would help with your rare phrasing issues If your goal was to help bring light to the weapon and make it so anyone could get a good understanding of their levels, you succeeded, and it’s also the case with your other videos The comment took me like 20 minutes 😭 I had a bit of free time and saw an opportunity to help someone with something I have a lot of knowledge in and just jumped in (also, thanks for the pin 🤝)

This fr. When I first got into splatoon with 2 I was hard set on learning brellas for style points, but I sucked really bad cos I was so new. Splatoon 3's been out for years now and I'm finally good enough to succeed w the brellas... when the latency is forgiving and the other team ain't four splatana stampers 💀
I have fond memories on Tenta Brella. My first comp team used Tenta and Bamboo as a combo, and MAN it was so fun, the two weapons really synergized well together. I hope they're all doing good, I lost contact with them a few years back.
I was a tent faithful in splatoon 2 and made it surprisingly far in x rank with the camo tent. They absolutely massacred my boy in 3 though. The splatanna class shreds the shield way too fast to get anything done, and the latency is impossible for me to correct for. Not only in shielding myself but my whole team suffers if someone tosses a bomb at the launched canopy at the right time. Adding in the squid roll is my final nail in the coffin. Everyone gets a pivot option when they see me rolling along with my canopy out? And they can parry away my slow fired shots? It’s never been more over.
I would give it another shot, it might be worth it! The issues have mostly been fixed and the latency is much better. Also squid roll from my experience so far (highest X rank 2100, with tent) is not that much of an issue, and although yeah splatanas do shred the shield, they aren't unwinnable matchups it's just another weapon like buckets or blasters that is a difficult matchup - and often, because while they do do a lot of damage to the shield, they still have to get through it, so it's still pretty winnable if they are isolated.
A bit surprised you never mentioned how suction bomb was much worse in splat 2 for tent then splat 3. It dealt 220 damage in splat 2 and with a shield multiplier of 2x, it could remove half of the shield HP and there also is a really bad glitch where if it hit the top of the canopy it could hit on both sides
Good video! An interesting note on Tent in the Cooler meta: The QR on cooler can lead to some extremely oppressive pushes, where killing an opponent only leads them to be down for a couple of seconds - and tent can help a lot against that as a way to slow them down. Not only that, but tent can also stall even in 2v4 situations, which allows your own players to get back in, and due to how relentless enemy cooler pushes can be, this, again buys more time against, and even with your own cooler pushes. Effectively, cooler meta is quite good for tent - not neccecarily because of the cooler buffs itself (as you said, it's sort of a mixed bag for tent), but because of how the cooler buffs impact the 'macro' aspect of the game.
I'm surprised you didn't mention the period of time when it took 1.5s to start recovering damage, rather than 1.0s (pre 2.0.0 i think) I didn't play during that period much, but chip damage became a lot more powerful, and I would think that tent would've greatly benefitted from it

I am so happy to see a new vid from you, these vids really kinda give me a time to look back at splatoon and these weapons. (Hell I've even picked back up some of these weapons like the slosher)
hammer on tent was such an interesting combo, some tent players will argue that you can surpass the need for a hammer by just hitting one shots consistently but was still a fun combo nonetheless, it made a lot of sense to give an agressive special that can just hold forward on such a slow and punishing weapon that is often forced to hide in it's shell when preassured, it gave it a moment of release for it
I still loved the splatoon 2 tenta sorella the best, people kept saying and still says wall on it is just a meme but i ran ink savers and i could be permashielded, when my brella shield is down i could throw a splash wall and stil lbe shielded, and i loved the curling bobm rush with it too bcs of the way i can shield and rush in with the curling bombs and they were prepatch curlings so they were strong and thretening

I know a tent player for a long tome and in splaroon2 among some tent players at the end of splatoon 2 stent was actually seen as the best one because of how well stent works with tent sinc eyou can wall and shield and curling bombs give mobility and you have to respect it a lot, it can bw really annoying to kill
If you're ever gonna touch squiffer I suggest holding off while comp players figure out S3 New squiffer, I was a staunch opponent of zip on squiffer since I really doubted its effectiveness outside of farming twitter clips but the kit is actually incredibly synergystic and effective. I was blind to how long it'd be able to stay in zip with a little gear investment and how easily it can use partials for a kill off of any splash damage from zipping ... (none of this to say I wouldnt mind fizzy crabtank fresh squiffer though)
A good Camo Tent was insanely annoying to fight in Splatoon 2. They'd stall you out for such a long time, and their hammer made it really difficult to punish. Glad it has Zooka now because it has both higher potential and more counterplay at the same time.
This was a really cool video! I'm subscribing and I'm def watching the rest of these! From a carbon deco main, may I request a history of carbon roller video? grin smile. I will go insane over it if so
@@jacobcats_spl oh hell yea... i've mained carbon deco for like 4 years at this point, it's my favourite weapon. This is very unlikely but if you end up needing/wanting any input from a non comp carbon player for whatever reason then I am free 😔😔👍
Well well well, Mr. Cats... looks like it's time for the Sloshing Machine video, and there's no hiding from it this time! I see you're still siding with the evil Range Blaster, but soon enough you will join the Machines, as the Booyah (Time) Bomb is ticking!
I don’t think vac was THE worse in the game before. I still saw top players consistently rank stuff like slider and stamp even lower for a long time so it was more so among the worse. Also the way vac works has not fundamentally changed since launch. The things only gotten what, 2 buffs up until now, none of which changed how it formation fuctions. The only thing that made it not terrible and workable was the increase in size to that return shot explosion radius
yeah, youre right. i think during the tetra epidemic (when the weapon was being “overhyped” because qr) some people started placing vac below slider because tetra players were intentionally/unintentionally pushing an agenda hard and it worked on me lmao. vac was definitely bottom 2 for a while though, and i dont think i mentioned anything about how it changed because that wasnt the focus of the section, but yeah it works the same p much just big explosion
I know I’m super late to this but I really don’t like your mic in this video for some reason. It’s too bass-y and it kinda sounds like you’re so close to the mic that you’re sorta kinda mumbling into it. Probably just me though Either way, this video was nicely done, I’ve binge watched all your vids and have loved every one of them. Keep up the great work!

History on sploosh and splash o matics next?
great video
hell yeah dude
Amazing video
aaaaaand he's gone again :(
yo the king returned
Honey wake up Jacob cats posted
If you're ever gonna touch squiffer I suggest holding off while comp players figure out S3 New squiffer, I was a staunch opponent of zip on squiffer since I really doubted its effectiveness outside of farming twitter clips but the kit is actually incredibly synergystic and effective. I was blind to how long it'd be able to stay in zip with a little gear investment and how easily it can use partials for a kill off of any splash damage from zipping
...
(none of this to say I wouldnt mind fizzy crabtank fresh squiffer though)
Nice timing as i just picked it up
history of Dapple dualies? i think it’d be interesting to see because it’s never been in the meta
HES BACK!!!
awesome video jacobchats
A good Camo Tent was insanely annoying to fight in Splatoon 2. They'd stall you out for such a long time, and their hammer made it really difficult to punish. Glad it has Zooka now because it has both higher potential and more counterplay at the same time.
the cat made it back
This was a really cool video! I'm subscribing and I'm def watching the rest of these!
From a carbon deco main, may I request a history of carbon roller video? grin smile. I will go insane over it if so
ive been on exclusively carbon p much since ive been back, weapon is hella fun and i’m definitely going to make a video ab it
@@jacobcats_spl oh hell yea... i've mained carbon deco for like 4 years at this point, it's my favourite weapon. This is very unlikely but if you end up needing/wanting any input from a non comp carbon player for whatever reason then I am free 😔😔👍
@@cosmixstar unfortunately my videos are almost exclusively in the context of comp so likely no, i’ll keep your offer in mind tho thx
@@jacobcats_spl That's fair! Exactly why I said unlikely. Good luck with the vid, I'm looking forward to it
Can you do splash if you feel like it? Great video by the way.
TENT MAINS RISE UP.
I miss S2 Sorella Tent
Well well well, Mr. Cats... looks like it's time for the Sloshing Machine video, and there's no hiding from it this time! I see you're still siding with the evil Range Blaster, but soon enough you will join the Machines, as the Booyah (Time) Bomb is ticking!
nah i switched up mad i play carbon now. machine video is not a bad idea though
Could you do splatter shot next?
WE'RE SO BACK!
Line Marker Stamp Tent Copium
Squeezer next!
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Will there be an Inkbrush history? 😃
I'm not a Tenta Brella main, but doesn't the shield launch double the hp of the shield?
Tent ⛺️ ❤
S3 Vtent ❤
I don’t think vac was THE worse in the game before. I still saw top players consistently rank stuff like slider and stamp even lower for a long time so it was more so among the worse.
Also the way vac works has not fundamentally changed since launch. The things only gotten what, 2 buffs up until now, none of which changed how it formation fuctions. The only thing that made it not terrible and workable was the increase in size to that return shot explosion radius
yeah, youre right. i think during the tetra epidemic (when the weapon was being “overhyped” because qr) some people started placing vac below slider because tetra players were intentionally/unintentionally pushing an agenda hard and it worked on me lmao. vac was definitely bottom 2 for a while though, and i dont think i mentioned anything about how it changed because that wasnt the focus of the section, but yeah it works the same p much just big explosion
you should do the n zap :)
you should do .96 gal next 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
i dont really feel like its that good for how much skill it takes. maybe i just need to get gud idk
PLEASE do a glooga video next I’m begging
Who use ink vac at this point?
ťěňťá břěľľá
what language does this mean thin belly in 😭
I know I’m super late to this but I really don’t like your mic in this video for some reason. It’s too bass-y and it kinda sounds like you’re so close to the mic that you’re sorta kinda mumbling into it. Probably just me though
Either way, this video was nicely done, I’ve binge watched all your vids and have loved every one of them. Keep up the great work!
first tehe 🙏
great video
