    Another banger! I love stuff about scramblers and trials bikes. My dad rode these in his younger days but living in Mississippi (birthplace of Elvis) we didn't have much selection other than the big 3 Japanese makes. One fella he knew had a Triton that he used as a road racer and a scrambler and that was exotic for our parts 😂. We watch your videos together and I make him laugh by turning the speed down to .5 and we pretend you are in a pub with us drinking and talking about old bikes 😂 Thought you'd get a kick out of that.

      When I grew up it was near fields and old mine workings so lots of people rode bikes, some rode old trials bikes not unlike the ones in the video.
      I’ve got two videos planned, this one and one on lightweights which is currently half done

      Funny you should mention the pub, unfortunately I’m a non drinker 🤷🏼😂

      That's funny we don't drink either! I think we just fancy the idea of hanging out with a drunk more than the actual practice 😂

    Another great collection of bikes and history. I really like the BSA's and the old Royal Enfields. Don't care for the modern Royal Enfields. Ride safe guys. Cheers from the States.

    Now, I did a fair bit of cylinder head work and a resleeve on a small - fin Gold Star trials outfit, ex works , ridden by Arthur Lampkin at one stage, 'tis said.. Heavyweight , it really wasn't.... Lovely machine....

    Respect to the rebuilder who did the Alloy Clipper. That bike has some real soul.
    As far as a new subject and I know it would be tough to do and still be serious at the same time, but a program about the most uncomfortable, or motorcycles with the worst riding positions.

      They would both be quite amusing
      I can imagine the reactions now 😂

    Anyone who rides/rode those big capacity bikes in stock form off-road, is a hero. Probably spends most days in the gym, too.

      Well they seemed to manage pretty well back then
      Seen Sammy Millers he’s tiny, it’s all about the talent I expect.

    • @borderlands6606
      @borderlands6606 5 місяців тому +1

      @@bikerdood1100 True, though Sammy's bike was lightened significantly from stock. Still unrideable by mortals like me!

      😂like the dog analogy
      Being small is likely advantageous
      Comparatively all trials bikes run heavy flywheels and Low compression even today the basic approach is very similar
      The flywheel has a gyroscopic effect which aids balance
      Only tried them once
      Way beyond my skill set a lot of the techniques are counterintuitive for a road rider and you body needs to make some very odd shapes
      Need to start at a young age to acquire the muscle memory I think

      Not if you’re on an old fashioned trials course
      Not too many straight lines to be had

      A big four stroke is a very predictable bit of kit as long as you have a good carb fitted
      CZ or BSA I know couldn’t use them to anything like their ability off road

    Thanks for this interesting piece of history. The Norton 500T which never came with rear suspension could have been mentioned. Though a decent trials bike, it was outclassed by machines with better riders.

    • @bikerdood1100
      @bikerdood1100  5 місяців тому +1

      True but can’t fit every bike in every time. Odd they never gave it rear suspension
      Let’s blame AMC penny pinching

      @@bikerdood1100 Guess that with the success of the featherbed frame they lost interest in trials. Concentrating on roadracing.

    • @bikerdood1100
      @bikerdood1100  5 місяців тому +1

      Nortons budget was small and the featherbed no good off road
      Once the company was purchased by AMC things were tighter still and from AMCs point of view they already had the AJS I suppose

      Well they only let you do so much on someone else’s bike
      You may notice if you look carefully that the rider on the velo is not me
      Alas I’m well over 20
      Well over
      Was a cool bike though, mad as a box of frogs but sounds wonderful
