I've heard so many different versions of "The Sammy Miller Story" this is probably the most accurate. I always believed that Sammy positioned his exhaust to blow the mud from the tread of the rear tyre. A true legend indeed.
Well that's an important difference between a trials tyre and a knobby. A knobby is self cleaning. If you ever rode in clay and had your trials tyres turned into slicks then you appreciate that Sammy might have been onto something.
I did a bit of trials back in the late 50s and met Sammy a few times. He would ride the road sections with at times, his left hand staring from the right handlebar!! Advice: don't try it😮
