    So I got three "good" brushes, I didnt knew how oil paint worked, so my first two brushes got rock hard and I didnt knew why (by he time i didnt got a solvent to clean them up with so i just used water), with my other brush I kept using acrilyc, so nothing happend to it. I research how to revive brushes and I found your video, so far the vinager hasnt done anything for me BUT using the solvent has helped A LOT to revive the other two brushes, one of them got recovered (is looking rough but im still in the process) and the other is still rock hard. I AM GRATEFUL because of your advice with the vegetable oil, makes the brushes incredibly soft and managable and with my last brush I've been using your cleaning process with 100% success, so far it hasnt got hard at all, thank you for saving my brushes from catastrophe!

    I prefer a non-toxic approach by using vegetable oil like walnut or safflower. I use one jar for the initial (dirty) application and one for a final (clean) stage, swishing and wiping until the brush is clean. The oil removes the paint effortlessly. Then I do a final wash with Murphy's Oil Soap and Master's cleaner.

    Thank you so much for this video. I found it very useful especially the part where you mention about the acetic acid paint removal.
    I have two questions sir
    1) would you recommend cleaning oil paints off the brush this way after every single paint stroke, or after the entire day’s painting session is over?
    2) can I use linseed oil in place of turpentine oil as the solvent ?

    • @MontMarteArt
      @MontMarteArt  3 роки тому +3

      Hi there, thanks for your questions! You don't need to wash your brushes until your painting session is over (if you're switching colours you can use different brushes or wipe the paint off the brush using a rag if it's similar to the previous colour).
      Linseed oil won't be as effective as turpentine, but if you're sensitive to turps, you can try using citrus oil instead :)

    CLEANING FRESH PAINT
    1. Wipe off excess paint onto paper towel
    2. Scrub it in a jar of solvent and wipe onto paper towel. Repeat as necessary.
    3. Scrub it in a second jar of clean solvent. Wipe off on paper towel.
    4. Now scrub it in a third jar of vegetable oil and wipe off on towel.
    5. Scrub it in clean solvent to remove any excess veg oil. Wipe off on towel.
    CLEANING DRIED UP PAINT
    1. Put it in some apple cider vinegar for 24 hours. Wipe off on paper towel. Repeat as necessary.
    2. Dip into clean solvent, wipe away, and then into veg oil, again wipe away.
    3. Shape the brush by applying hair conditioner on bristles, and shaping it onto your palm.
    4. Wash conditioner out before starting a painting.

    • @MontMarteArt
      @MontMarteArt  Рік тому

      Hello, in very rare cases this can happen if lots of ‘soaked fabric rags’ are piled up on the top of one another. However it is simple to prevent spontaneous combustion since oxygen is needed for it to occur. Materials subject to spontaneous combustion should be stored in sealed metal containers such as a safety can or rubbish bin. If you are using paper as you have stated simply allow it to dry and dispose of it in the bin.

    • @MontMarteArt
      @MontMarteArt  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Eric, thanks for getting in touch! The most natural non-toxic brush cleaner is Citrus Solvent - an alkaline solvent made from the skin of citrus fruit. You can also use Citrus Cleaner, which you should be able to pick up from most hardware shops. You could decanter it into a large glass jar and as you clean your brushes, the muck from them will settle to the bottom. Then, you can gently pour off the clean solvent/cleaner out into another container. Hoping this helps :)

    I don’t understand what’s the solvent?

    • @MontMarteArt
      @MontMarteArt  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Trevor, you can use a solvent (paint thinner) such as safflower oil or mineral spirits that will help dissolve the oil paint and remove it from your paintbrushes 😊

    Possibly the worst way you can treat your brushes. 0:30 dont jab and jam your brushes like that, get a coil in there that separates the bristles in a gentler way. dont jab your brush in the paper like that. 1:04 jesus Christ man, what are you doing to those bristles?! STOP JAMMING AND JABBING THEM!
