I waited 3 weeks for this to air just so I could record it on Charlie Rose. This is simply the best version of The Stone I've ever heard and I've been to countless shows and have many many other taped versions . . . what he did here, with just an acoustic guitar, all alone . . . inspired and inspiring.

Love to hear these stories. Nowadays it’s hard to experience that anticipation of getting it on tape.

I have NEVER in 7 yrs made one comment on here. I am cracking up at the people comparing Phillip Phillips to Dave. Phillip was phenomenal, i'm a big fan. But Dave has the voice of an angel and was probably a gift to all of us from God. C'mon people.

MrCopperhead, the seven dislikes have tin ears. Dave was and is the master. Like me, I bet all of you listened to the end even though the video was messed up... thanks for posting!

His guitar skill is so underrated. I can play a lot of Zeppelin, AC/DC, plenty of metal, and this guitar part is intimidating as hell.

very true my man, a lot of people don't know how skilled you have to be to play and sing, and forget about this song!!! the coordination is insane.

A lot of the things that America seems to love about Phil are things that Dave has popularized in the first place. Phil is great no doubt and will likely be very successful down the road. But don't go expecting the second coming of Dave Matthews, because no one can do it like he can. Respect

Surely there is excess embellisment and zeal for Dave Matthews that is not necessarily warranted. But Dave Matthew's musicianship and lyricism in this video is compelling and eerie. This video is a treasure to come across!

While I'm here, for those of you who are relatively new to Dave Matthews, please check out "Song That Jane Likes" (the very first song Dave wrote) The show at Benaroya Hall Seattle, Washington..10/24/02, he plays solo while battling a wicked cold. The song was originally untitled, but his sister Jane fell completely in love with it, so he titled it in her honor :0) enjoy ~

Quit hating on PP. The fact that Phillip Phillips is just another genuine artist (and he is pretty god damned genuine. i dare you to argue that with me) drawing inspiration from a legend like Matthews is admirable. God people, music is not a contest, nor is it a bitch fit over who's music's better.

Also, yes I have written music before!!I've been in a band for over 5 yrs & we have over 25songs,all of which I wrote all the lyrics for & collaborated on a good 50-60% of the music. We also put out an album last year with a legendary producer:ERWIN MUSPER,so it's a subject I have great knowledge on!!I assure u Dave DID NOT WRITE ALL OF HIS songs before he became famous! Those r facts, look them up!Only:Remember 2 Things,Under The Table,& the majority of Crash were written before he became famous!

Dave is one of the best rhythm players ever. From the truely original compostions,to his mutting patterns/inventive riffs, & picking techniques, & his uncanny ability to play & write in odd meters such as 5/4, 7/6, 7/8, 11/4; this is just the tip of the iceberg. He is certainly a technical guitar player as far as his rhythm playing is concerned, he is not a lead guy such as amazing players like Slash,Petrucci,or EVH,but he doesn't need to be
