But he never told his mother because she saved so hard for his lessons so he could play in a mariachi band. She knew music would lift him out of the ghetto. It's why his music is so poignant and why he does so much charitable work with his foundation to help and protect children. The man's an earth angel. 😇

Santana adapts all types of shit into his music. Done it from day one with Jin-Go-Lo-Ba, which is originally an African folk tune. Just appreciate that he manages to do it well and enjoy the music, rather than nitpicking over what passage you recognize from a classical piece written hundreds of years ago.

Sorry everyone ! this "song" was not composed by Mr. Matthews - it is purely the entire melody from the slow movement of the 3rd Symphony by Johannes Brahms - a titanic classical German composer (1833-1896) - and the audacity is that this guy does not even dare to acknowledge that in any capacity anywhere. Pure plagiarism ! he literally stole the melody and its harmony from a great and long deceased a musician who is a million times greater than he'd ever be - making everyone believe that they are moved by his own authentic sounds under the influence of tequila ! Perhaps the tequila confused him to think that he wrote this eternal Brahms' melody when he heard and fell in love with it. This is a very illegal issue which deserves an investigation. I am disgusted !!!

In my opinion it's a pleasant riff on Brahms, not a "copy" or "theft"... You see friend, immaculate birth is somewhat uncommon; most new things are actually new combinations of old DNA. Everything is built on a legacy ,,, as such, this song is built on Brahms, yet it is a wholly different song. In my opinion

How this song came to be is beautiful. The way we get inspiration and take it to create something mixed with our own touch of creativity is an art. And Santana excels at it. He walked in to a record store one day humming the melody to Brahms Third Symphony after hearing it being played on a classical radio station. He then after brought it in to the studio, put his own magic on to it, and right away Dave Matthews started writing these lyrics. It's a masterpiece! I just love Carlos Santana 💛

Yeah, I always thought this track was one of the best on the album, the theme on the guitar/vocal is perfect and so melancholic , later I found out it was Brahms... he was a genius and Santana made a great job fitting it in a beautiful song !

After the jamming begins, it starts to sound like just another Dave Matthews song. Which is not to say there's anything wrong with DMB, it's just not on the same spiritual level as the first 3:10. The album Santana released was so good and unique this song gets overshadowed by more radio friendly poppy songs which were awesome, I’m a huge dmb fan and I will even admit this is like the 4th best song on the album.
