exactly. for some it helps enhance there playing too, by allowing them to "relax" and feel the rhythm. I don't care what a musician does to prepare for a show..smoke, pray, yoga, nothing at all....when they deliver like this you get your monies worth and more.

To be honest, I've never even been much of a fan of The Dave M. Band. He's so talented that a band just distracts from his talent. I base my opinions on his solo stuff and his stuff with Tim Reynolds. When he's playing without the band he plays much more percussively and his talent shines through much more. Much of the stuff I like by him is only available on the internet and never been released on CD. I can't think of anyone else who can pop off amazing songs like Dave, time after time.

Good point Ryan. I wouldn't say anyone can become a great player, but you basically get out of it what you put in to it. Songwriting is a talent either you have it or you don't. Like a good voice.

On his Double CD " Live at Luther College", " 41 " is played with Tim Reynolds, and is a SPECTACULAR version of the song. WAY better than this Version. I just about cried the first time I heard this song on the Luther College CD. TOO beautiful to be named "41 ".

john mayer's biggest influence is stevie ray vaughn he is a bluesy soulful guitar player first and for most then he's an amazing songwriter and singer dave matthews is something completely different both equally amazing jus completely different

they did do 41 together at Luther College, however this is not the same occasion. If you DL the Live at Luther Colleger version it is definitly a great choice

There's no guitar skill more important than creativity. Just ask Steve Vai or Joe Satriani, technical geniuses, but never played anything anyone wanted to listen to more than once. Also, like I said before, unless you are a an experienced guitar player, you're in no position to judge. Dave's skills are 1) Best songwriter since Lennon, 2)incredible voice, 3)amazing singing abilities (those are 2 different things) 4) acoustic creativity 5) technical prowess on acoustic. If you think Dave is disrespectful (he openly admits to smoking pot so its not like he's even lying about it) then you don't have to listen to him/go to his concerts. BUT please don't criticize someone for smoking some plants and sounding good.
