We had a getting dressed competition at the Maryland RenFaire! Friends @coppercosmonaut and @makinghannah and I got to work with the lovely Dark Cottage Clothing a couple weekends ago to do a fun getting dressed challenge. We each started with a base from Dark Cottage Clothing, then we were unleashed on the MD renaissance festival to find accessories to complete our look. With a budget of $500 total, including the Dark Cottage pieces and any renfaire pieces, we had to come up with a cohesive, themed costume while staying under budget at representing as many stores as possible. It was more difficult than I thought it would be! Let me know how you think we did in the comments!

I can't believe some of the prices for this stuff. I live in Aus and even with conversion rates they are incredibly reasonable prices for such beautiful pieces. The quality and passion are apparent, and I feel as if I can justify both shipping costs and times because the prices aren't way beyond my budget. Thanks for introducing us to this shop.

@blossompetal784 I know, already ordered earlier. It wasn't as expensive as I expected seeing as our dollar is never doing well in the first place. I usually never order from out of the country because of the shipping times, rates, and how expensive everything is for us. That limits my options SO much. So I'm glad for these guys!
a cool variant of the competition could be starting from the exact same base of easily findable items to show off not only the wares of the fair but the different ways you can customize the same base to achieve different looks!
I’ve made pretty much my whole basic renfaire outfit (shift, stays, skirt, cap, bag, pockets, etc.). I took a friend with me who didn’t know what to wear. I told her to just pick whatever she wanted. She wore a Shrek dress from Hot Topic and got sooo many compliments. 😊 That’s what makes renfaire people great.
i really enjoyed th eidea of customizing in very distinctly different directions using fairly basic (still fantastical) base outfit pieces. I also appreciate how you three embodied a whole spectrum of more feminine-coded/flowy/layered and masculine-coded/utilitarian/close-cut and practical styles of outfits. i really enjoyed this!
Thank you for introducing me to Dark Cottage. I was just going through the website and I love how size inclusive they are!! I'm on the bigger size, so finding reasonably priced faire items in my size is really difficult. You all looked so great!!!
omg idk why I didn't do this earlier but seeing the video made me realize exactly how much criss-crossing you did getting stuff at Faire and MY FEET HURT JUST WATCHING but tbh I lowkey am sad I couldn't muster up the courage to get something from Brass Dragon A+++ good purchase

i love this challenge idea! i definitely don’t have enough money to do something like this myself but looking through all those artisan stands sounds like such a fun time
I love this challenge. I also love that I'm watching this literally hours after I got home from the Ren faire lol NGL seeing this makes me regret not going to the fair earlier in the season when more stuff was actually available at the merchant stalls (but that's what I get for waiting until closing weekend). Definitely taking notes on some of the accessories y'all bought

Nicely done. When 1st choice isn't available, search for other options. Rope, chain, and cloth belts are good backups. As a fellow Ren Faire re enactor I love each of your outfits. Happy belated birthday!! Scotch eggs yummy!!!! I've been getting stones to wire wrap and wear. I portray a pirate and take my ferrets with me.

Dark Cottage looks awesome! Beautiful designs, looks comfortable and the prices are good. Probably still can't afford to order there because of shipping costs and customs. Those can easily make the things a third to double more expensive and then it's outside of my price range for sure... Too bad they're only US based.
