  • Tony and I take his dad out in the car he used to street race in the 80s and 90s. He tells a few stories of how he acquired it in the early 80s and some of the street races he participated in back in the day, and he gets to see Tony make a pass in it on the street!

Tony, cherish every minute you can with your pops, he deserves it and so do you. I love your dad and the stories he has (I’m sure you do too even if you’ve heard them before) The 442 is a beautiful beast and boy does it launch, sweet! I don’t know if you or Tess edited the video but it really, really is good and the only problem with it that I can see is, I can’t get enough of it. I started watching your channel after seeing you with the Bill & Vicki from The Old Man’s Garage and Billy & Tommy from SRC. I’m in my mid sixties and always loved racing. My first date with my wife was at Baton Rouge race way some 48 years ago, btw, top speed in a rail dragster was about 230 mph in the quarter about the same time the jet cars got into the seen. My hero’s in the early seventies were “Big Daddy” Don Garlits & Don “The Snake” Prudhomme. Naturally we all had our home town favorites and now I have a bunch of new favorites like Bill, Billy, Tommy & you two! Tess, hope you didn’t trash the steering wheel!

    I miss my pops.
I could tell your dad was more interested in telling you the stories and visiting with you than even the ride in the car.
The pat on his leg melted my heart.
Please don't let the man ego crap get in the way of hugging your daddy
And telling him you love him ever chance you get.

Great video! Your dad's Mondello story reminded me of my own. In the mid 2000's, my dad and I got hooked up with a big Olds guy. We would eventually build/restore about 8-9 cars for him. All Oldsmobiles of course. In '09 ( I think) the Oldsmobile Nationals were going to be held in the Pittsburgh area. We're on the east coast of PA so it wasn't too far away, and we were just about done with his 68 F-85 W-31 build. So my dad and I took the car out. Now, we're not "Oldsmobile guys"...... we restore all kinds of stuff. We didn't have a deep knowledge of the Olds players from back in the muscle car days. We knew the Mondello name but wouldn't be able to pick him out of a line-up. So the show is over and we go to the awards banquet. We find our table and there are 3 other couples already seated. We're doing the normal chit chat before and during our meal. The awards start and Joe Mondello is there and will be speaking at some point. Well, the time came, and the guy sitting along side of me gets up and walk up to the stage. I had unknowingly been sitting next to Joe and his wife. After he came back to the table we found out the guy sitting on my dad's right was George Berejik. His family owned the only high performance Olds dealership on the east coast and were part of the Smothers Brothers Olds drag racing team. My dad was like... how the hell did we get seated at tis table? Haha!!

@@avboysgrandpahollywood Tony this video an recording of this clearly special event, time with Your father, Dad, is very meaningful, special, unique and expresses Your appreciation of, with, within Your obvious, clear, unique, special relationship with Your Dad and mom.
Clearly, not only did Your Dad, convey, pass, transmit, transfer many important qualities, characteristics, appreciation, views, perspectives, perceptions, ethics, ideas, concepts, principles within automotive, automobiles, motor vehicles, mechanics, mechanical also within life, people, relationships which are genuine, sincere and meaningful. Clearly, obviously, certainly Your Dad entrusted You with this special Olds 442 when he gave it to You for use with cruising and racing, and still afterwards, to care for, with it properly, as he taught, educated, developed with and within You.
As my post to the main account of Tess here, above, these Olds 442 are among my favorites [listed] and this specific exterior color combination, along with the specific interior is certainly my personal favorite [obviously each individual has their favorites]. These A-Body/Frame vehicles were among those 'muscle car' favorites during my teens in the 1970's. Our neighbor, five houses up the street had his 'fixed up', modified GTO, my IE-auto mechanics teacher, instructor's son had his Chevelle SS [396 or 454], there were others similar including Olds 442 models, some Gen 1 Camaros, Firebirds, Mustangs, BOSS, Mach1, a Cougar, more rare a Mopar Charger, RoadRunner in the neighborhood and town. More rare were some older 1960's versions, a C2-Stingray [youngsters didn't have], and saw the occasional Challenger, Barracuda mostly within other areas. The Gen 2 Nova through 1970's became slightly more popular, available, accessible for young people to use for their 'street rods', 'cruisers', etc. Within Our area in Maryland, there were and are not any racing tracks nor known 'street racing' [maybe on some back roads - which i was unaware of - there are not many roads with straight, level sections which are usable either]
When i visited NW Ohio during summers, where my youngest childhood and friends lived [my mother and sisters born there, father from NYC - me in S.B.IN], my first 'street' experience with a few cars and events late at night, after hours. Though my father was my first that introduced me to, with, within many basic mechanical, mechanics, construction, building, woodworking, etc. which was developed further in public school IE, including more with electrical, beginning toward electronics, along with my given abilities within the conceptual, visual, mathematical, science, physics, chemistry, materials, scholastic which led me toward engineering, design, development, assembly, fabrication, technician, technical, etc. ->more toward electronics, though my connections, attachment with mechanical, mechanics, motor vehicles, etc. remains high, along with aeronautical as an extension [actually my childhood desire was to be an Astronaut - my eyesight - near sighted- Myopia was an obvious, certain, immediate disqualification for either USN, USAF pilot training program-->thus, as with the early Astronauts - minimum requirements - still desired to become a pilot though.
My early development, directly with motor vehicle modifications, performance was with my HS buddy who had been given a white/blue 1965 Tempest, w/326, c.i. which came from his parents through his older brother, that passed it to my buddy before We were 16 y/o (~ 1/2 yr), with mostly external modifications, in which he invited me to work with him checking all of the mechanical parts, repairing, correcting, performing maintenance, tuning, installing a few small modifications [nothing major]. The parents specifically and particularly purchased only Pontiac vehicles. So, the older brother bought a new vehicle during graduation year, thus the Tempest was transferred to my buddy. Then, a couple of years later, before HS graduation, my buddy sold the Tempest and bought a 1969 Charger w/440 Magnum-rebuilt. His parents had a second home out on the eastern shore in beach area which my buddy was allowed to use when it was not rented. We drove out there to that area, which has some stretches of State highway which are flat, two lanes, undivided to reach that area - no Interstate highways out there. With my buddy driving, in that Charger, he reached some high speeds in sections of open road [we had installed radar detector and CB to know when, where the State Police were positioned] - that vehicle certainly had the power, pickup to feel the force push back into the seat when he put the pedal down, even from traveling medium to highway speed limit [55 then] - remember seeing, feeling, experiencing, reaching above maximum speedometer [>150], several times. None of my personal vehicles have ever such power and speed level, but it would certainly be enjoyable to have such use on a proper track or road, along with a proper suspension, handling.
All of my personal purchased vehicles were used, fully maintained, repaired via my efforts, work, evaluation, assessment, analysis, troubleshooting, etc., except the portions which required more than my equipment - exhaust, tires [though i personally selected, chose what was appropriate], or need for a machine shop.
The track pass shown with this Olds 442, is very impressive, indeed - especially the launch and 60ft. - certainly N/A alone - might have thought from these it could continue to accelerated to achieve faster 660ft-1/8 ET & trap speed, and thus 1/4 mile too. Perhaps the mass, weight is a bit too much to achieve much more with the setup. Which tires were on the vehicle during that pass ? It appears from the video, there is not seen any tire wrinkle, such am figuring the tires are radial drag slicks ? The large left, front rise, 'wheelie' indicates the massive torque, power and rear tires grasping, grabbing, 'hooking' too.
Am interested to know what led You and when, Tony to shift from the Olds 442 toward Ford, specifically the Mustang, Foxbody platform, along with Your development of the specific expertise within these ? What situation, experiences, which individuals were you involved with, assisted Your development, information and knowledge base, expertise, etc. ?
This would also be interesting to know the same about with Tess - perhaps also what led to You meeting and joining together ? Clearly, obviously, certainly You are a good 'team' for and within life together.
My introduction to seeing You both has been initially through this channel, last year, with the posted videos within the Maverick. Independently, had developed a following with Billy [Jr.] via SRC. Then during an event this past winter, down in the SE, in which Billy & Tommy traveled and participated, also Tony and Tess were there, mostly assisting, without any vehicle of Yours, all the way from CA. Such it was clear You have some previous connection developed. It would be interesting to know what led to Your meeting, interconnection, friendship, which has clearly expanded, and developed with purchasing Molly's Mustang, which You retain, keep it stored within their area-garage(s) for use in that region. What You two have shown, posted, with the modifications from the initial purchase and racing event(s) are very informative, helpful, useful, beneficial, especially with and for Mustang, Foxbody and other similar platforms.
Clearly, Obviously, certainly Tony is well developed within stick shift racing along with the mechanical, mechanics, modifications improvements within each and every aspect, part, section within the vehicle(s). 😏
Am looking forward to seeing more of Your many specific vehicles, goals, projects, as they proceed, progress, develop and the events You, Tony and Tess participate, are involved in, with, within. 😄
Clear, obvious, certain to me among the many excellent qualities which You have used within motor vehicles, the most important, essential, critical are the most human, which include appreciation not just of the machines, equipment, items, but more with the people individuals, humans involved, those closest, most important, dear - including the aspect, character, characteristics of genuine and sincere - clearly Your parents have these also along with transferred, transmitted, instilled, established them well, properly to, with, within You - and Tess has similarly. 😆
      🤗
All The Best and Much Success in Your Quest, Health, Happiness and Well Being. 😊
      Sincerely ☺

      @@David-uu1oj Your reply is appreciated.
Seems You are born a year before me.
Which year and color exterior and interior was Your 'plain Jane' 442 ?
The 1960's-early 70's are among my favorites as this one.
Was not familiar with the Aurora or any of the later Oldsmobile models from the mid-later 1990's into the millennium.
Thank You for informing thus providing a trigger and alert for me to search, view, investigate and examine via the information, photos, videos available to me currently.
The Aurora certainly appears to be a very good looking vehicle with two new interesting engine options- a 3.5 L V-6, 4.0L V-8, both Northstar variation, w/DOHC. The 2001 model body and interior appears to be nicer than the previous years too. Which engine option to You have ?
This Aurora seems to have been used, for their other vehicle developments too. They appear to have many of the same design body shapes, similar interior designs - each smaller, with some similar engines, transmissions, suspensions, and other advancements.
Also was not aware that Oldsmobile had continued with some NASCAR vehicles and more surprising the use with their Northstar V-8 variation within Indy for a few years, with winning vehicles including one Indy 500 [1999 or 8?] - very impressive - indeed !
->far better than with the Buick V-6 attempts ->which Butch Meyer - Legacy Autosports that was requested and contracted to use the production version and develop a racing engine for Indy from it ->as he stated in the interview with Casey Putsch, Butch told them they actually need some more significant modifications to the block, etc., but they refused - they wanted the same basic engine to promote in their production vehicles - he acclimated to their requests - it performed very well - but never finish a race - failed each race.
Having seen these various models now through these searches, it also did trigger my memory to having seen the Oldsmobile last new emblem, thus it seems one model vehicle the Alero, perhaps, as it seems, one of their smaller model, which still had a 4 cylinder engine option, was within my view here [am overseas, far to the east from the USA - about 7000 miles, in The Near East-Asia Minor some called the Levant - EretsYisRoAIL - we have limited access to many vehicles - many are not imported here - especially limited with those from the USA, larger and larger engines - most common are

Brings back memories from the 80s . I had 3 friends that raced them. 455 built like Super Stockers. 90/10s trick springs. Loosened up the front end. "Lift bars" in the back. Relocated the holes 1 inch forward on the control arms can't remember upper or lower. The car would jump up like a scared cat! Jumped up sideways doing a burnout. Launching with a 4 speed at 5500. Felt like you got rear-ended. Floated like a boat crusing

But I'm 50s and nothing better than listening to a older guy tell his story's about the day. But also to hear the knowledge they give for free decades before the internet or being able to watch a video and build a car. This was one of the best videos I've seen in a while most I think it's that I just lost the person that got me into cars. I wish I had the ability to record the day my brother and I raced and raised hell. So for that thank you...

Big blocks owned the big end (get it). Lol. Those who knew ruled the streets like Tony does. Every block goes faster when Tony plays with it. Well taught, I'd say, right dad? !

We all enjoyed Tony's video with his dad, very special. I watched Tess have a horrific crash on UA-cam and then they show up on Bills channel.
I'm amazed to see how Bill rescuing Billy in his crazy youth by investing near everything into his race career has attracted sooooo many folks of ALL ages, areal family gathering.
Recently Addie's story who is 14 to folks like me at 64, or Tony's dad in his 80's, we're all just enjoying the ride, a lot of laughs, and drag racing!
Can't believe this old road racer is thinking straight line passes now, but then, it's all about relationships and as I call it, The Fanmily.

PS: I had a plain Jane 442 in the day and now I daily drive a spotless 01 Aurora........it was Oldsmobiles last hope in IMSA, and to fight BMW imports. A very nice comfortable platform and a classic already!
Olds always had good ideas for the times, GM just disappointed us.
