My daughter was cheering you on grabbing my and then screamed she won she won. Then I got to explain to her a red light was. She said you still won anyway 🤠. Great vid and love to see you having fun. My daughter says hello and is practicing saying it like you do🙏
I’m so glad the shifter helped. Now a seat to keep you rigid and there’s no stopping you! The racing is great and your spunky personality is freaking awesome! Don’t ever stop being you❤
Tess and Tony you guys did a fantastic job So crazy that little Ford motors out there gapping s*** like it is 400 and something horse and it's out there tall gapping 😅 everybody
The fact that your still smiling makes it a good day. Back in the late 70s and 80s I had a 66 chevelle that ran 12.0s give or take but I had my alternator wired to a toggle switch so I could turn it off when racing and I had a Hurst comp plus shifter. Tess you did great you need to try and relax and with the never give up attitude I feel you got this. God bless and as always be safe.
See I told you needed a taller shifter, looks like you need a shorter throw on shifter try the old T handle or a pistol grip style handle make it fit you .
Really impressed with your driving. Your shifting is much better. Don't worry about it anymore. It's only gonna get better. Once you get comfortable with staging and develop a routine, you'll be making da Trash Panda eat.
Great job Miss Mav aka Tess... What's more exciting watching you PB every time you hit the track or Tony say really.... If you man is in pressed than you done good lady...In time you will have it master in Stick shift class... Especially when you are having so.much fun at it. Those moments make for great Vids... Thanks for sharing your guys success... Kickn Sss and taking names!
Tess, Maybe a "Rock Crusher" style shifter as they had on old Mopars would help you? With the hand grip, they have on them, the length, and the curve in the handle, it may be exactly what you are looking for? P.S. You need an "It's not an LS" sticker on the Maverick... or some "Powered by Ford" stickers... or both. It'll keep those Chevy guys from getting confused. Lol!
She's moving all over that stock seat. She needs a better racing seat to help Her stay in place and Her shifting mechanics really needs to be worked on, She never shifted the same way twice! But the car is running great though!
Since you 2 been hooked up with SRC/old mans garage youve got so many more followers and wow driving Jimmy Dales stang for the win your a popular gal/racer.Saw you in the live Jimmy Dale with old man in mullet, funny as F$CK and as pretty as you are your respected by the men for your talents on track, safety first and would like to see you live with LIMPY some time.
You two definitely bonding like a couple and its cute to watch. Keep up the great work kiddo you'll get it soon enough. Ty for the content be safe God Bless.
Good day Tess. Don't beat yourself up about the reaction time. Get the launch rpm and shifting down, then work on the reaction time. Remember, you're learning all over again with the stickshift. It'll all come into it with seat time. But yeah--- good day girl !
tess you make me so proud that was definitely your best pass o yea she go 10 45 she going to go .. you go girl tony and tess love you both stay safe your friend on long island new york
I love it you are getting her into her own car and working on it. I know there would be more women out there doing this if they were supported like you are to her!
Thousands of tips, here's 1 from a person who taught power shifting in school. Try the 3-4 shift wide open. Trust me it works. Psychologically the 2-3 shift is hardest, and the 1-2 shift is a close second for trying to train the brain. Get out on a empty highway, hammer 3rd., with your foot resting on the clutch, pulling pressure back on the stick, then just tickle the clutch, DON'T LET OFF THE GAS. I promise you'll laugh at finding out how easy a wide open 3-4 shift is !!!! Once your confidence builds try the 1-2, then finally the 3-4. T.S. RACING 🏁
Getting there, very entertaining. Definitely not an LS. Ford power all the way!! Finally going to run a BBF in a mustang, 598 cu. In. In a 98 Mustang GT. Jon Kasse SR-71 heads. Going to run an automatic transmission.
USE the MSD 6AL-2 and activate the 2step rev limiter with a clutch pedal switch. Set it to what ever you want your launch rpm to be. Beam-in, clutch to the floor, accelerator pedal to the floor, 🚦, and drop the clutch as usual. No looking at a tach or pedalling a specific rpm. Just mash and go! If you dont so this soon I'm breaking up with you Tess. Ill still watch Tony with the Ohio boys.
Tess,, if your glove's slipp'n on the shifter knob get some of that 'stick um' football receivers use and wipe just a tad on your glove,, it might help. That first lap shifting was WELL DUN! You'll get better and better every pass. When we watch the old videos of Grumpy Jenkins rowing through the geats in his Muncie 'Rock Crusher' trans Camaro his body rocked forward and backward as he shifted and his foot HAMMERED the clutch. Tony does it the same way. ua-cam.com/video/ocC8MueSs_A/v-deo.html&ab_channel=1.milliard
Why don't you try to shift the 1,2 like you shift the 3,4... I'm no expert but any means... But it looks like the angle that your talking about would be best if you shift 1,2 with you hand on top of the shifter pushing down... But either way... Bad ass video ..keep up the kool content!!!
Ok- I have a solution!!! Run a 6AL-2 box. Use a 2 wire clutch safety switch and tap it into your be housing so it is pressed in when your clutch fork hits it and closes the contact. Hook this to the single wire ground to activate the 2-step on the MSD box. Presto!!! Adjustable 2step rpm triggered off your clutch- you can press the clutch, give wide open throttle at the light, and focus on that tree!!! I used this method on my fox bodies flawlessly.
Ya done good. Think you're right on the new taller shifter. You aren't moving your body around as much to complete the shift. I hope a straight one doesn't make you start hunching your body to complete the 2-3 shift. Generally you want perfect seat position before finalizing shifter length and angles.
Hey my grandma drove a 66 Mustang fastback with a hopped up 289. And how she does it she goes? step on until you hit 45 and just lift back just a little bit
That ball is way too big. Save that for later after you win. Try a 1⅞" diameter ball. What shifter are you using? 1 - 2 shift did suck. I dont think its you though. That stick may be too long. I dont know if i mentioned before, but i use the stock Fox body shifter handles. The first handle you had on their looked like a Steeda or UPR....the stock is just a bit longer. I put it in a vise and took a blue gas tank to it and bent it how I wanted it. I like mine as even with the steering as i can get it in any vehicle. I raced road courses a lot in my early 20's and wheel to stick transitions were plentiful in SCCA TA-II
Could you use something like a stutterbox that way you can set your rpm and floor it so you don't have to watch the RPMs when you are staging it's just a rev limiter heck you probably already have it LoL 😂 love the channel guy's it's awesome keep them coming
Just throwing my two cents in. I'm a stick shift guy. My car has a MSW short throw shifter but I also changed to a weighted plastic cylindrical shifter, kind of the shape of a Red Bull can. I was skeptical at first but it shaved hundreds off of each shift pretty crazy how just a shift knob can make that much difference.
What do i do with my hands and my feet ? 😂😂😂 When you're done the burnout, then get into a "stage the car" mindset. Worry about shifting after you launch and just slow your mind down. Don't get ahead of yourself. Make a conscious effort to slow your mind down.
Did I hear that your Maverick is a street car? I just bought a ford fushion 2020 SE. It has a v6 with twin turbo and it has a eco system and its AWD. What can I do to make this more faster but keep it street legal as well as track?
All those thoughts you're having as you stage,, those will go away with more laps Tess. They will not be in your mind at all and you'll be clear headed focused only on the tree, laps, laps, laps will fix everything. 🙂
Digging the old school approach, keeping it a hot rod you can drive everyday and not a race car that's questionable driving on the street occasionally. You seem more confident each time you take it out, just figure out what works for you and have fun doing it.
Okay test you did pretty good girl Mark Booth from Pennsylvania said so beautiful tell your husband you're doing better tell your husband doing better okay workout in your arms and more you can shift better start with lifting weights on your arms both arms and your legs to your feel better
At 22:40 I was so relieved you know exactly what the shifting problem is. Hope you find a solution. Until ya do you can try setting your body in the position it's going to be in when you shift into second so when you actually do shift to second, you will only be using your arm. Hope that makes sense
You are doing amazing young lady!!! You know that stick shift racing is the only real racing, anything else doesn't measure up. I'm so glad that people still enjoy dumping that clutch at six grand and letting go, an amazing feeling!!! Keep up the good work young one.
Nice job,,, maybe move the seat right to be closer to shifter, and put a real containment seat with 5 point harness so you’re not getting bounced all over the place on the launch so you can gitit into second… and if something goes south you can be safe!!!!!
Its fun to see you all excited .. i didnt get a 460 shoehorned down into my foxbody like i thought i could … so i built a rowdy lil ole 5.0 that will hold lots of nitrous or boost … my gf has never ben in anything fast so ill start out slow then work my way faster … i cant wait to see her reaction !!!
Tess, you guys spend tens of thousands on your vehicles...get somebody to make some measurements and make you a custom stick shift that fits you and the geometry in your car!
"Street Car" getting pushed all the way through the staging lanes besides that the car does need a set of belts and atleast an 8 point cage with swing out door bars and if it was me I would just go ahead and put a 10 point cage in it because I know before it's over with this car is going to be alot faster than what it is right now and just being on the safe side of things and just because you call it a street car doesn't mean it's really a street car you have that car set up right now giving it triple the power it had when it came off the show room floor and even though you have good parts on the car the car itself isn't used to all that power and going that fast that quick so you have to treat it like a race car and Tony, The Old Man and Jimmy Dale all need a cage in their car's
you need a grandmom car a woody wagon like Steve Morris wagon search this on youtube We WON Our First Heads Up Race! it like a 230 mph wagon it had his SMX engine he builds racing engines it like a 50 grand motor he sold motor after the test rods all 8 came apart the motor was to much power for rods Cleater McFarland leroy blew his LS motor i can fix this SMX weld up block fix it find 8 good rods & pistons he makes SMX blocks & sleeves all 8 cylinders here sick thid in leroy the fast stick shift vette it might lost in with LS that thing!
I’m going go with it’s all Tony’s fault why you red lighted lol jk he told you to double bulb the other car and that got you all tore up and not your normal routine lol. Love the content Tess and Tony as always.
Is that car all motor ....?????????....bring it down to Irwindale . I have a couple of cars for you ...street cars ...we drive them to the track ......
Tess really needs to get a staging brake/hydro brake that way she can stage the car like normal and after she lights the top bulb she can use the hydro hand brake to easily roll the car into the 2nd bulb like she would in her drag car and if she had a hydro brake she can bring the car up to the RPM she wants to leave at and just have to hold her foot there and just work the hand brake and I think that would help her cut a way better light and mostly all stick shift car's are running them street car's and drag car's
He says she bogged off the starting line she says her shifting was crap and she short shifted into 2nd or into 3rd but either way when you take a 10sec stick shift car small block small tire all steel all glass street driven street car with a 50 shot of nitrous and the first pass you make of the day off the trailer is a personal best for that car and all you did was change the shifter post to make the shifter taller and easier to reach out for it so if that was a bad pass in their eyes stick two kits of nitrous on it and spray the first kit at the top of 2nd going into 3rd and spray the 2nd kit on the top of 3rd going into 4th and for the 1st kit put a 150 shot in it and for the 2nd shot put 225 in it and make sure you get all the shifts on point and it should hold together
That kid on the bike rode beside you most of the way watching you struggle out of breath and the least he could've done was offered to put you on the handlebars to give you a ride back to your car to cut your run time down by just a little bit but no he didn't offer to help because he was too busy riding his bike right beside you watching your body as you run and that is the polite way to say it but you can tell that's what he was doing because of the grin he had on his face the entire time
What are your thoughts of putting a 2 step on it and wire it into a button on the shifter and the clutch switch.. That way you'll leave at the same rpm everytime and you floor it and as soon as the clutch releases it takes off. If you wire just a button you have to worry about timing that, but if you wire both a button and clutch switch it'll be one less step you gotta worry about at the line. I hope you understand what I'm saying, it's kinda difficult to explain through a comment. You're doing great though, just when you was talking about it's not like a trans brake car, you could make it like one.
You need to think racing each time you go up to the lands even on testing because it can form a bad habit if you don’t do that. And the bad habit could be to think it’s just testing so it is what it is. That can make you inconsistent
I have to have a straight stick in my chevelle, the curve back makes it a longer move, I can grab a pistol grip, or a t handle alot better than the ball.
On a positive note just think about it your street car is faster the alot of people's race car or what they claim is a race car great job tess and Tony
My daughter was cheering you on grabbing my and then screamed she won she won. Then I got to explain to her a red light was. She said you still won anyway 🤠. Great vid and love to see you having fun. My daughter says hello and is practicing saying it like you do🙏
Glad to see the clutch held up and you all had a good time and the more seat time you get the better you will be
Great progress. It looked like a fun day. Although Miss Midnight Mavrick, it’s time for a harness. I always enjoy your videos.
Great Video Tess and Tony! Its entertaining to watch Tess having such a great time with her car. :)
Congrats on the 10:71.... seat time will get ya there 😊

It's better to shift slow and steady than fast sometimes and miss sometimes.

I’d like to learn it without the help of a two step.

I think a longer offset shifter would be better, I have always preferred that type
Also might try not gripping the shifter just use the palm of your hand .feels more comfortable to me
Maybe a hand brake would help. I used my e brake to hold me and help me launch my stick honda
I have to have a straight stick in my chevelle, the curve back makes it a longer move, I can grab a pistol grip, or a t handle alot better than the ball.
So which caltrac leafs are you running standard height or 1 inch drop your cars stance is awesome !
On a positive note just think about it your street car is faster the alot of people's race car or what they claim is a race car great job tess and Tony
When I stage a stick car I try to stage before my component so I have a little extra time to get my launch rpm set right.
TONY PLZ TEACH HER HOW TO KICK THE CLUTCH IN A BEATER CAR OR TRUCK!!! SHE GETS THE DUMP RIGHT BUT SHE IS SOO SLOW ON PUSH DOWN
Grabbing gears and spanking rears.sounds about right somehow...
Great video and Miss Mav's smile is a great way to start my day
Instead of a shift ball try the pistol grip type
Grabbing gears !!!! You need Jimmy Dales little wing
Tess needs a no prep automatic bullet ! She would be a major player..
That black 5th Gen Camaro is badass and when he puts that car on a track that can hold the power that car makes he's going to make a hit
you cant flip the shifter around to put it at a diff angle . seems like 2nd wouldnt be so far down
wax that ball. and the gloves. bees wax. toilet rings new from home depot .
