Damn, she's amazing, I'd love to have her as my boss. She's asking all of the right questions (e.g. on strategy), she clearly identifies key issues (legacy tech stack and how address it), she seems very down-to-earth and she's actually willing to learn. 10/10 wish my boss was like her.

I did an internship once where I had to do the time on site metric but for an app by parsing the log files. It was pretty challenging as you have said where the timestamps mess up frequently and it looks like some sessions last for days (which is not true). The way I solved it is by putting safety limits like, if the time between two consecutive actions of the same user is more than, say, 1 hour, then consider it to be a new session. Also, there were also a lot of weird cases which had to be taken care of like, the home pang landing event was being recorded before the app open event.
She was so articulate and made it an awesome interview! Actually got me interested in data science. They should get her to do more data science related interviews i think it would inspire up and coming data scientists.

In data science, particularly as a machine learning engineer, are the maths behind the algorithms and models really that essential to understand or is a high level of understanding enough and execution of the model is of importance?
As a machine Learning engineer myself, i would say yes,> Having a high level of mathematical undestanding is core for that position. This is mainly due to the fact that the job involves a lot of optimization methods to decrease the use of ressources your model/program use. Knowing how to excecute the model is the easy part, which any data scientist should be able to do.
Great interview! Sorry a basic question from a cat lover. But why do we draw the conclusion that people care more about their cats when what's wrong with your dogs is higher in time on site? Doesn't it mean that people spend more time on webpages about dog than cats so people care more about dogs? Maybe I am understanding something wrong here...

Yes but also assume it is a mistake or incompetence that causes something until proven otherwise. Instead of what our reptilian instincts have us do by default which is "find the villain" (essentially the opposite order of what the quote suggests). You'll be a lot less angry in life and have more ability to solve problems if you can follow the advice of the quote.
Most big corporations that people believe to be evil by some intention at the top are "evil" as a result of a lot of people in the company (from top to bottom) making not carefully enough thought through moves, mistakes, and just not being aware of the bigger picture of how everything adds up to what their company does and taking responsibility for how they add to it.
"Evil companies" are the default. Especially the bigger a company gets. No one has to have a plan to make a company evil for it to happen.
