- No copyright infringement intended. This is an excellent performance by Jason Vieaux that I want to share. All four movements are included in the video:
I. Allegro,
II. Andante: jump to 06:25,
III. Menuet - Trio: jump to 09:49,
IV. Allegro: Rondo On a Theme By Sor: jump to 13:36.
Enjoy!
Very Nice sharing my friend
The best interpretation of Sonata Clasica I know.
The best interp.of Ponce there is.Great CD.I wore it out years ago,but I always go back to it for the beauty of Ponce and Jason
Muy buena versión de una obra colosal de la guitarra clásica y que los jóvenes guitarristas deberían abordar más.
indeed; its tone is just gorgeous.
Love Ponce, love Vieaux.
:3 Hermoso, sencillamente. Un orgullo mexicano Don Manuel Maria Ponce.
thank you
I just love the first movement...it's gorgeous. makes me think higher...I have the score, I will learn this particular piece and play it for the rest of my rather short life ... Greatings from Mexico 👍
Oh yes, this is superb in every way - the music, the playing, the guitar tone. Love it!
Thanks for posting this gem and Best Regards from old Athens !
On this recording,he is playing a Paul Fisher guitar. He no longer plays that one though. For some time he has mostly used a Gernot Wagner double top.He also uses fisher on Sevilla album.Fantastic record. On maybe favorite recording of his "Recital,"he uses Valasguez. To me,they all sound amazing
Exemplary recording and performance!!!Congratulations!!!
Heavenly! Maestoso! No one comes close to Jason Vieaux playing Ponce. I have all his recordings and whenever I want to become inspired by a huge sound, musicianship, and by Segovia's old friend, Manuel Ponce, I listen to Jason. MANY THANKS for this post. Absolutely beautiful. I live in Mexico and it's funny how few people have heard of Ponce!
In which part of Mexico? I am from Mexico and every one who has assisted a Elementary school knows Manuel M Ponce. You are with the wrong people. Mexico City has 6 full symphonies, Nacional, OFUNAM, Politecnico, Mineria, Ciudad de Mexico y las Americas. Not common in other places, and If you at list have finish Elementary school you know about: Moncayo, Revueltas, Chavez and Manuel Maria Ponce, one of the room in Palacio de Bellas Artes has his name and several schools, you are in the wrong place and with the wrong people.
Arturo RyE I would very much agree. I am living in a shallow, uneducated and boring place-San Miguel de Allende. I'm aware that León, Guanajuato, & the big cities have rich cultural awareness. Out of 10 Mexican people here in San Miguel, maybe 4 know who Orozco, Rivera or Siqueiros are. My sister studied with Siqueiros in SMA decades ago. Education levels here are very low, especially amongst the N. American expat community who don't know what a book or musical instrument look like.
Tomas Nofziger I would say that it is rather a question of chance because, for example, ENM's teachers very much neglect Ponce's guitar repertoire. Indeed, Ponce is well known in México but his music is not nearly as celebrated as it should be. Anyhow, that's one of the reasons to post this sonata: to spread awareness about the first-class composer that Ponce was. I'm glad many have enjoyed the video!
Tomas Nofziger In Mexico Ponce could be anyone, Manuel M Ponce just one. Amazing story good for you, and congratulations for your sister, by the way Siqueiros died in 1974, pleased to know you like Mexico. And thanks Isidro for sharing this.
I would recommend finding recordings of Thomas Sheeley or Patrick Reed. In my opinion they are the Ponce maestros.
I will buy the cd now. Is not usual hear Ponce's Sonatas very well interpreted.
This abum is a reference without any doubt.
Thanks for share it
Maravilhosa interpretação.
Just beautiful
Bravo!
beautiful
¿Me equivoco?
+Vicente Urías García en Magdalena de Kino , pero mis abuelos eran de hermosillo
+fifirifiyo Orale, me fui con la finta por que en Obregón fue donde conocí las deliciosas coyotas, Es bonito todo el estado de Sonora.
great sound
EXCELENTE!!! like 325
thanks
it'd be nice to know, indeed.
With Ponce, I think (for a change) that Segovia is the best indeed, on that old album with the Mexican drawing on the cover. Whilst El Maestro could not handle the Villa Lobos etudes, he excelled in these Ponce sonatas, where his power of musical expression and judicious departure of timing was key to his magic attraction. Nonetheless, Vieaux does a humblingly great job.
Haven't come across them. I got that record though; should perhaps upload it one day.
There are a few movements of the "Mexican Sonata" I think. In my opinion, Vieaux's renditions of all 4 sonatas are the best I know. The edition he plays (as far as I can tell) is the Segovia edition btw.
yes it is....and man that tone production?...unreal!....i know it's mostly him but wow what a guitar...i wonder what it is?
It's a fun piece and really nice performance and *recorded well.Something tells me that guitar sounds great even if he was just tuning it (I wonder what guitar this is..? Enjoyed.
It's a Gernot Wagner spruce double top.
it probably shouldn't surprise me that Segovia has recordings of Ponce's sonatas, but to be honest I wasn't aware: are they available on youtube?
It sounds like it's the Gernot Wagner he's been playing for years. Good luck getting one if you are looking. They run a high price tag.
Do you have an idea about the luthier?
Do have an idea about the luthier?
Yes archlutesmith!!
The guitar needs performers as Jason and some one, because now
there are a lot of performer with great fingers but very poor music profile.
Let's hope Jason wasn't holding the guitar in the position shown in the photo.
The tone is not that great. You hear his nails very often ... especially the thumb. The others are just fine but his thumb nail is too long.
Yawn. Lifeless paying ,far too slow the first movement.
I don't understand why people feel the need. I think Eliot Fisk is awful, but I don't listen to his recordings and feel like my negative opinion is going to be useful. I listen to something I enjoy to get the taste out of my mouth, instead of trying to spit it out on people's shoes...
