- No copyright infringement intended. I love Ana Vidovic's performance of this masterpiece, so I want to share it. All four movements are included in the video:
I. Allegro moderato,
II. Andante espressivo: jump to 05:34,
III. Allegretto: jump to 10:05,
IV. Allegro non troppo e serioso: jump to 12:28.

Efectivamente: es un placer que la maravillosa obra de Ponce sea valorada por intérpretes de talla internacional.
Mi maestro de guitarra que es vietnamita y toca absolutamente todo considera que Ponce es de un altisimo nivel y que todos los mexicanos tenemos que estar muy orgullosos de el. No todos los guitarristas pueden tocarlo y no todos le entienden.
Cuando escucho esta obra maestra y en la versión de Ana creo que no todo esta perdido
That was ABSOLUTELY the best interpretation of this sonata that I have ever heard!!!
All other recordings of this work sound more or less the same. This recording on the other hand, is truly unique and original.
Ana plays fast yes, but also amazingly lyrically. Her touch is light and effortless. The music sounds NEW and UNKOWN to me, even though I have heard it many times before.

Sonata Romantica by Ponce is one of the greatest pieces in the guitar repertoire and Ana Vidovic plays it superbly. This is a UA-cam treasure.

🤓 after reading all the critiques of this u-tube video, I've concluded not knowing anything about classical guitar may be my good fortune! I thoroughly enjoy her music; I find her sound to be warm, calming, soothing, and most of all thought provoking. If you buy into the concept that music is a form of communication, her striving for perfection and expression in classical guitar may be a means of reaching as many people as possible with the message of peace and serenity - a very worthwhile cause indeed, wouldn't you agree?
Ir is a great lesson of music and life.

Superb technique but Allego non trop serioso, means brisk but not too fast and with a serious air. This is like presto or prestissimo. It gives the feeling of a fleeting fling rather than a serious romance :-)

Stunning technique and beautiful tone, but she plays the first movement like she's in a hurry to get down to the pub, and the third movement is like a scene from a runaway train! Maybe she'll mellow a little with age.

Leyendo la autobiografía de Manuel M. Ponce me pude dar cuenta de lo mucho que fue explotado lamentablemente por Andres Segovia. Digo esto porque Manuel le hacía durante tiempo considerable sus arreglos sin recibir crédito por ellos, en los innumerables conciertos alrededor del mundo de Andrés .
Que tal, ojalá pudieras conseguir el libro de las cartas de Andrés Segovia a Ponce, fueron grandes amigos, para Segovia Ponce y Castelnuovo Tedesco fueron los más grandes compositores, en muchos casos Segovia digitaba las obras y se encargaba de conseguir las mejores condiciones para que esas obras se editaran y Segovia no cobraba nada por digitarlas, le hacía creer a un editor que Ponce ya estaba arreglándose con otro para que este le ofreciera algo mejor, Ponce era un verdadero genio y creo que fué una gran suerte que conociera a Segovia y de esa amistad y mutua admiración se pudo lograr que el repertorio de la guitarra contara con muchas de las obras más grandes no sólo para guitarra sino para la historia de la música, a Castelnuovo Tedesco algunos le decian que para que perdía el tiempo escribiendo obras para guitarra y el respondió que lo más probable es que nunca sus obras fueran tocadas como lo hacía Segovia pero sólo por el hecho de que una sola vez sonaran como las hacía sonar Segovia aunque nunca se volvieran a oir ya valía la pena el haberlas escrito, Ponce creía lo mismo y seguramente nunca hubiera escrito nada para guitarra si no es por Segovia, los únicos que acostumbran hablar mal de Segovia son los guitarristas, el que sí fué bastante miserable con Ponce fué Carlos Chávez.

Segovia fue una persona deleznable. Se burló de la música de Villa-Lobos y prohibía a sus alumnos tocar música de Barrios, entre muchas otras gracias. Afortunadamente la grandeza de la música de Ponce Trasciende por mucho la envidia, el odio y la megalomanía de Segovia.
A beautiful masterpiece beautifully played, but almost every player seems to consider allegro non troppo e serioso a synonym for presto, or am I wrong?

MrJlalmazan And the same is true for "Allegro moderato". She plays with superb technique, but to me this tempo really takes away the romance from the "Sonata Romántica".

Does she play it a bit too fast? Maybe. But it's only because she has the best technique in the world. And she was 16 when she recorded this. Ana Vidovic is the queen of classical guitar, and if she plays fast, it's because the music can be played that way.
Superb performance, but 3. movement feels way too rushed. The 4th movement though is played really beautifully. But to my ears Segovia is still undisputed king when it comes to interpretting Ponce.

I don't like the 1st movement at this tempo - way too rushed
Have listened to it all now and while technically impressive I'm surprised that no one here feels that much of this is lacking in expressive quality? Not enough feeling in it, she just powers through at bad tempo with little rubato or dynamics. Once I've heard Dylla play it I just can't get into this
+89Redge Hi, sorry for the late reply. I totally agree with you but I'd like to point out that Ana recorded this piece when she was 17 years-old. You couldn't expect musical maturity at this age.

Why this obsession with speed? A real guitarist's problem imho. In part II her B string is too low.
Pero por qué tanta prisa, caray, ni frases ni canta por la velocidad elegida. Nada qué ver con el carácter de la música de Ponce ni con los tiempos de Segovia (quién estudió la obra con Ponce mismo). Es un derroche de capacidad técnica pero sin un cuidado por la musicalidad de la obra. Qué decepción.
Ana Vidovic has a great technique, but for me she plays too legato. She has no rhythmical touch.
