5.9wkg for 44 minutes. Watch along and ride experience this climb at Tour de France cyclist speed! I'm aware that few people have ridden with a GoPro up this climb at this speed, so this is a chance for many to experience, POV, a speed that may be unattainable for them. I may not be THE FASTEST....but it's fast enough lol. Love ya'll, and thank you for watching!
Awesome effort. This is bringing back some awful memories from 2009 of getting to the first hairpin with heart rate at 172bpm and the world closing in on me. Three years later managed 54 minutes. It's no mean feat.
Fantastic to witness first hand, even if you did make me look like I was standing still at 29:00 😂. Great spending the week with Charlie, yourself and the gang too, top memories!
Heading to the Alpe this weekend, can't wait now. Thanks so much for sharing this POV of the climb. If I can do it in a day I will be happy 😂😂. Another epic effort there sir. Love it!
Climbed this many times & those first few turns are hard work! Seeing your speed there 🤯 huge respect 👍 ps. Got a big ride in Italy coming up if I can borrow ya legs 🤪🏁👍
Fantastic effort Ed. Having ridden this climb 3 times it’s incredible to see it at race speed. I was lucky enough to be on there when Tom Pidcock won. The speed his group, with Froomey in it, came past us was incredible 🚵🚵
Nice climbing mate. Crazy to see the speed you can hold uphill. 32min faster than my time from September 2021. Just mindboggling to me. Kudos to Charlie too for her climb, and I'm sure she'll be faster next time, now she knows what to expect. I'm sure she can hold more than 2.5wkg for 75-90min next time you guys are in the area.
@@edlaverack They sure did. I can't wait to get back to the mountain. This year I'll be doing a few lesser climbs in Austria (Mayrhofen -> schlegeis, Mayrhofen -> Krimml and back, and of course the Innsbruck climb that's also in Zwift). I did a first few short climbs yesterday, and if I can keep the power below 240w and still manage to go forward I'm golden :)
Better than watching the TDF :-) . By the way , for a long time i have thought it would be nice if strava made some allowance for paused time within segments . They must be aware that some people will travel a very long way to ride a climb like this and have a very specific goal time , and perhaps never get another chance . So if they encounter traffic lights or whatever during there attempt , it's kind of a major disaster ! So strava could make allowances by not including paused time , but put an asterix next to the time to indicate a pause . Might save a lot of stress around the world for people chasing segments ! Obviously some would argue against the idea , but strava is not racing , and it would on occasion save some lives i imagine !
An good dose of training volume but specifically focusing on muscular endurance, time at threshold and slowly building up that tolerance to be able to ride at FTP for as long as possible!
@Ed Laverack - nice video. I think all too easy for us mere mortals to not appreciate just how fast 6w/kg is up a climb and how long for. SO i guess the big question is...... will you keep the 6th Fastest time over the "Crono Course" after today? Will Bardett even keep the KOM?
Ed Ed Ed great ride today but please please acclimatize before the etape rides 1 or 2 weeks riding in 30`c which feels like 40`c blasting off the tarmac would see you riding at the front of the race all-day.
@@edlaverack But i suppose you're gifted? How do you exactly train? How many kilometers do you do in a year? What is your time when you climb alpe d'huez with very little training in your legs for example?
Hey. Great climb. With what software you did the data on display? I have also a Wahoo Roam but I used Garmin VIRB edit and I have problems with the climb % (it shows always double value) thx
Ed the best time is for Kuss with 39:21 (371w) his wight is 61 so 6,08w/kg, how is possible a difference higher than 4min with the same power than you?
Good question. I wasn’t at my normal climbing weight for this because of a recent bout of ill health. I was more likely closer to 65kg and therefor way off the pace of the fastest leaderboard times
@@edlaverack I'm old school, I can't bring myself to put anything wider that 23mm front and 24mm rear! And I just sold my classic GIOS Torino that was still on 21mm tubs!

How much faster was Pantani back in the day
He finished in 36 - 37 mn.

Awesome Si, that is, as you say, no mean feat!
Superb Ed, Superb. And even passed an e-bike at the start 2:07

Lovely to be able to share the experience with you guys, make the trip much more homely when you are sharing good company!
Major props to the pair of you for phenomenal efforts. All those poor souls you passed that must have thought they were stopped, though 🙂
I hope they don't feel like that to be honest :|
@@edlaverack they shouldn’t. They were still going twice as fast as I’d be able to! Full of admiration for each and every one of ‘em

Great effort Ed. 👍👍💪💪 That’s the segment (Zwift equivalent). People don’t usually do the full TDF Chrono
Tremendous Ed, flying. Chapeau 👍 🚲 👏
OMG amazing. Ed. What an effort. Also well done Charlie! Great to see you do this on the real thing. What a lot of traffic by the way.
Fantastic.
thanks for helping me during my ftp test!

Top effort both of you!.
Ed, love your work Man. Can you do Mont Ventoux next please?
I will try!!
What a climb and effort Ed. Looking forward to seeing it in the Tour this year.

great video Ed, i just watched it while zwifting, and it helped me get a personal best up the Epic KOM :)
Boom!!
All out 👏👏
That MTB race was the Megavalanche which is maybe the biggest none professional MTB race
bravo x2 !
Now only 200km left of the stage 😣
Impressive ride. Is this the same length segment Pantani did in sub 37min? If so holy EPO...
Mad init. Whats even more incredible is when you look at the avg speed differences. Mine was 18-19kph VS his 23 odd
I grabbed a glass of wine and am watching now how it should be done after my first time doing it in Zwift, took me 1:43h hehe.
Bravoooo
Wouaho awesome, congratulations! What is your training to do performances like this?
An good dose of training volume but specifically focusing on muscular endurance, time at threshold and slowly building up that tolerance to be able to ride at FTP for as long as possible!
@@edlaverack Thanks for your answer! What do you mean by training volume? All the kilometers you do?
Powerhouse!!
What V02 max is needed for such power levels? Very nice 👍.
Probably 75+

Good question! Pretty certain I would have been in my 36-25

Lots and lots of cycling!

@@edlaverack so you were climbing less than 5,9, 4min in 14kms (about) there is a big differnce maybe more than 5kg between both
Nice climb, but why did you stop at the tourist finish? The real Tour de France finish is 2K further uphill.
Good question. They were doing roadworks ahead of the TdF coming in a few weeks
@@edlaverack Oh no, that’s a pity. With your climbing speed they have had let you go 👌🏻
Was this easier or harder than zwift?
Actually easier. Very scenic climb and sharing the road with lots of riders really helps break down the mountain.
Oh man. Shame about the market!
👍👍👍👍👍
Half an hour faster than me when I did it at 60. That's a pretty fat tire, what were you riding?
Fair play Brian, that is rapid! It's a 28mm tyre.

haha! Thats what I thought!
İf you train for a year, you can win tour de france climbing stage
Unlikely, but would love to be drafted in just for one stage haha!
Jesus..
Was that Charlie you passed earlier on the climb?
Yes!
