Russell's performance on HvV is some of the best gameplay ever considering the competition and that he didn't have prior relationships with any of these guys. He still ran much of the game to the final 3. He was at his peak right after Samoa and a lot of fun to watch. It never bothered me that he didn't win. It's the group strategy and blindsides up to the final 3 that I love and he was the best.
And let’s consider the fact that at the time no one ever saw Russell play until airing at the time. That’s how he got very far. When Redemption Island came around the new players have experience with his gameplay & outsmarted him which is what caused an early exit during the 3rd time.

He got salty jurys, that's why he lost. Tony has won 2 times with similar playbook. There isn't salty jurys anymore if you lie - what Tony did all the time also. Russell got totally robbed 2 times. Tony is IMO the best player ever but Russell must be a top3 player ever also.
I think he’ll do better in FTC but he’s not likeable to the jury, hence why he lost twice, his gameplay wasn’t the main issue, it was how he approached it and treated the others

Russell Hantz winning the Sprint Popular Vote this season proves how many people respected his game play in both seasons. that's why I always felt like there should be a larger cash prize and a separate vote for who had the better game play in addition to the Popular Survivor Vote and the actual main vote.
I disagree. There’s a big emphasis on survivor being a “social game”. If you make it to the end but the jury is bitter against you - then that’s a part of the game. Jury management and making people not hate you is a part of the game. Sure, you can be popular with the American people as an entertaining character on television, but a a big part of the game of survivor is making people respect you/ not hate you so they will actually give you the votes in the end. The jury votes are one of the BIGGEST parts of the game
Russell was not known to the other Heroes vs. Villains cast members as Samoa had just finished filming when they arrived. Samoa and Heroes vs. Villains were filmed only a few weeks apart. As a result, Russell would be the first returning contestant to be completely unknown to the rest of this season's cast.
I think they figured it out pretty soon what kind of player Russell is. Too bad there was bitter jurys. Few years later Russell would have won both seasons. Personally I think he is the best player after Tony.

There is so much delusion in this comment section. Many of you do not understand Survivor at all. There is a difference between being good TV and a good Survivor player. Russell is great TV. He is not a good Survivor. If this were a game where building social capital didn't matter, he'd hit it out of the park. You cannot outwit, outsmart, and outlast without social capital. That's arguably the central premise behind the show, and has been proven time and again every season. He would be phenomenal at something like "Amazing Race" where social capital isn't necessary to win.

And that’s a big part of the survivor gameplay -outlasting people without making them hate you so they’ll give you a vote in the end. Russel was good at being cutthroat and making it to the end, but once at the end, he upset too many people to get votes. That’s literally a part of the game. If you have bad jury management, it doesn’t matter if you played a perfect game. Take Tony for instance, who plays similar to Russell, but also has the charisma to manage the jury and the people still in the game. They respect him. Russell can’t do that.

People seriously forget that the ONLY reason Russell makes it far in the game is because every player at the merge realizes he is a complete goat they can drag to FTC for an easy win, hell Candace probably could have beaten him. Natalie, Parvati and Sandra all realized that if they go to the end with Russell they only have 1 actual opponent and can cruise to an easy win. Flaws of Russel's game: 1. Bringing Sandra and Parvati to the final 3. The safest route for him in my opinion is not bringing either Jerri, Parvati, or Sandra in the final 3. 2. He makes other people hate him esp. in Post merge. He lacks Jury management.

I know likeability gets u the votes to win but it's a flawed system where the vote out players can all hang out together and pre meditate their vote. I love the gameplay up to the final 2 or 3 and that's why russell is my fav. After the final 3 it's boring.

can't stand bitter juries.. almost like it's part of the game you gotta factor in that some people will be totally emotional idiots with grudges from within the GAME. the worst is when they say "You lied!!" like of course they did lol wtf?? some people don't have the ability to recognize game
@@CodCats exactly! It’s either play the game and lie and make your way to the end, or don’t play the game and float your way to the end hoping the Jury will award you for not hurting their feelings. They need to make the jury a group of past survivor all stars instead

Flaws of Russel's game:
1. Bringing Sandra and Parvati to the final 3. The safest route for him in my opinion is not bringing either Jerri, Parvati, or Sandra in the final 3.
2. He makes other people hate him esp. in Post merge. He lacks Jury management.

Also, it’s been leaked that Parvati got information about Russell’s gameplay before the game started. Parv’s producer friend told her to align with Russell because he was too menacing.

@@bloodorange6713 exactly the new seasons casts are so boring. people just have more homogenized personalities nowadays and its less entertaining. they also hide the controversial parts of themselves more nowadays as to not get cancelled or fired form their job etc which is just more likely to happen now.
