- The LSU Rural Life Museum's Interpretive Program Specialist Steve Ramke demonstrates how a corn sheller and grinder was used in rural households to separate dried corn for consumption by both humans and animals.
Should have mounted it on the box away from the corner, Most shellers will then spit the empty cob out away from the box for you to easily discard. In this case the box is blocking it's exit. Also the spring tension may need adjustment for the size of the corn. Most when adjusted properly pull the corn down without fighting it down.
amazing simplistic version of old life. this got my thumbsup
Good video! I wasn't planning on watching this but it caught my attention. You explained the process well.
My grandpa had a corn grinder like that he used into 1970s. He had a couple pigs and a cow he would feed the corn to.
Wish I had this as a kid. Had so many blisters doing this by hand, so we could corn houses in the fall.
I have an old grinder like that and was trying to figure out what the heck it’s for! Thanks!
nice video, thanks for sharing , definitely makes you think about just one of the chores our ancestors endured
Use the Hominy/Masa recipes to nixtamalize the corn and release more vitamins.
Cool, please make more
Ours is very similar to this. Simple machines are sometimes the most genius.
Great indeed. Do you know any company still making the corn shellers?
That’s cool, and it still works!
Cool stuff
Where did you find the box?

Nice..
Not for Sweet Corn?
Can this work for pecan nuts as well
This is genius
So what happens to the cob?
Put the cob in the outhouse to wipe with. Cobs used thusly can then be burned in the cook stove.

Very weak audio, but GEAUX TIGAS anyway!!
Completely useless demo...you lost half of the food
That corn grinder was in the second world war 😬 looks so old.
Closer to civil war than ww2.
