I only shelled corn one time, took months before my hands recovered, I love my corn sheller ! Your clamps are at 90 degrees to mine, yours is much better. Anyone growing corn, go get one if you can. Mine was only 35$, but that was 20 years ago

Appreciate the comment! Amazing how much prices can change in 20 years 😊 Thanks for watching!

Great machine! As for hand shelling, the easier way to do it is by rubbing a cob with another cob. Can be pretty fast too, once you get a hang of it.

Pecan Grove UA-cam channel shot a very good video Sept 2024 about a vintage HS2 corn sheller with an additional end sheller he explains how to use. He also shows his ingenious corn cob drying hangers as well. Very nice funnel setup custom built for mounting corn sheller.

I am used to sweet corn in yellow, or bicolour (yellow and whlte).I have seen colourful corn on the cob, but they were like a decorative piece on a wall…
Could you eat that variety boiled and spread with butter and a bit of salt?

It won’t be sweet and the kernel skin is tougher. The decorative corn you’ve seen can be used for corn meal and makes beautiful corn tortillas and chips.

Yeah, I think the texture would be off if you tried boiling or eating fresh. But ground into corn meal and made into cornbread or porridge, it's delicious! Thanks for watching!

What variety of corn are you shelling there? I've grown a lot of different varieties before, but I've never seen one in such a deep blackish-green.

It's Oaxacan Green Dent Corn. We absolutely love it! I believe we got the seed originally form Seed Savers Exchange. It's always produced very well for us and super tasty as corn meal. Thanks for watching!

      @@FromScratchFarmstead Is it heirloom?

@@davidhardman6291 I believe it is, but you might want to check into it yourself. Comes from Oaxacan, Mexico. I'm sure Seed Savers would have more info!
